Geoarchaeology and archaeology of the city of Cádiz, Spain

This workshop-seminar organised in Strasbourg will be focusing on the archaeology and geoarchaeology of Cádiz. New sedimentary cores drilled in a marine palaeochannel crossing the city in Antiquity will be discussed. Researchers from the University of Cádiz, the CNRS, the ENGEES, and the University of Strasbourg will be present.

Occupying Space during Bronze and Iron Ages: From site to landscape

6th Doctoral Meetings of the European School of Protohistory of Bibracte

Archaeology and Space have always been intrinsically connected. On one hand, different attributes of the environment affected human beings forcing them to adapt their behaviour in order to succeed, while on the other, in doing so, communities have influenced their surrounding spaces by transforming them, in some cases irreversibly. As all human actions are by definition immersed in space, for this year’s meeting we have decided to approach the questions of understanding and interpreting these complex processes looking through the prism of scale on which they happen. The extent of these ranges from the processes that occur on the small levels in the spaces of archaeological sites extending to the larger levels when dealing with the narrative of cultural landscapes. Sessions will provide reflection on the social and spatial aspects of archaeological sites and landscapes and will incorporate themes related to subsistence, economy, social behaviour and ideology within the timespan of the European Bronze and Iron Ages.

Il s’agira d’analyser les migrations qui concernent les régions méridionales de la France en étant attentifs à leurs dynamiques aux différentes époques de l’histoire et souvent en lien avec des causes multiples : économiques, religieuses, politiques ou liées à la colonisation.

Les fréquentes hécatombes dans le Sahara puis dans la barrière méditerranéenne nous engagent à porter de nouveau la réflexion sur le phénomène des migrations internationales. Devenues aujourd’hui le symbole d’une crise mondiale qui mobilise tous les Etats africain, eurasien, américain et océanien, elles combinent à la fois des dimensions politiques, économiques, sociales et culturelles incontestables. La mobilité humaine et les migrations ne sont pourtant pas des phénomènes nouveaux et exceptionnels. Depuis les premières heures de l’humanité, partout dans le monde, elles ont régulièrement modelé nos sociétés. Si elles sont aujourd’hui un problème délicat de gouvernance politique, alors il faut s’interroger sur les raisons qui les motivent, les logiques qui les gouvernent puis sur les conséquences qu’elles entrainent.

It focuses on the polysemous and discussed term ‘border’. For its second issue, the authors are invited to write on the theme “Imagining the Border”.

Organised by the ERC Advanced Grant “Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency” (MAP - 741182), the conference Naming and Mapping the gods in the Ancient Mediterranean. Spaces, Mobilities, Imaginaries hopes to bring together the competences and specialties of multiple disciplines – archaeology, history, geography, anthropology, history of religions, philology, reception, social network analysis – in order to consider new documentation corpora concerning the intersection between the divine and space. Among other things, the conference aims to propose an innovative angle of approach: the intersection between the spaces and designations of the gods.

Watertraces interdisciplinary conference

Ce colloque interdisciplinaire est organisé dans le cadre du programme Watertraces, soutenu par la fondation Amidex d’Aix-Marseille Université. Il a pour objectif principal d’encourager un dialogue étroit entre les disciplines archéologiques et environnementales, en présentant et en interprétant des études de cas datées de l’Antiquité méditerranéenne, et plus précisément du 4e s. av. J.-C. au 1er s. apr. J.-C. Il s’agit de présenter des études novatrices sur des sites en partie sélectionnés sur la base de critères géologiques et hydrogéologiques.

IX Jornadas Filológicas

Las IX Jornadas Filológicas son organizadas por tres universidades establecidas en la ciudad de Bogotá, Colombia. Se trata del principal evento de estudios clásicos en nuestro país, el cual, sin embargo, ha contado siempre con invitados internacionales reconocidos por su contribución al desarrollo de este campo disciplinar. Esta novena edición de las Jornadas estará dedicada al tema de la migración y la ciudadanía en el mundo antiguo y tendrá como propósito último establecer paralelos fructíferos y formular propuestas aplicables a las problemáticas actuales suscitadas a partir de los flujos migratorios y las políticas que toman los Estados para enfrentarlos.
