  Saigon, témoin de l'histoire à travers les archives

  À travers une histoire riche en rebondissements au cours du XX^e siècle, Saigon présente de nombreuses facettes inédites qu’il convient de mettre à jour et d’analyser. Grâce aux archives, les chercheurs redécouvrent aujourd’hui celle que l’on nommait autrefois « la perle de l’Extrême-Orient » et mesurent à la fois l’évolution et l’expansion de la ville, d’une situation coloniale à la cité-province actuelle. Pour suivre pas à pas ces transformations sociales, politiques, économiques, une très riche documentation est désormais disponible principalement en France, au Viêt-Nam et aux États-Unis. Ces sources constituent en effet le matériau de base pour entreprendre une recherche historique, géographique et plus largementen sciences sociales. Archives administratives, dessins, plans etcartes, photothèque, images fixes ou animées, institutionnelles ou privées, elles sont nombreuses et souvent dispersées. Elles constitueront le coeur de cette journée d’étude sur Saigon.

  Frictions and friendships

  Cultural encounters in the nineteenth century

  The exhibition The Dutch in Paris, which was on show in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and in the Petit Palais, Paris during the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018 respectively, aimed to visualize the artistic exchange between Dutch and French artists between 1789 and 1914. As part of a larger research project, set up by the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History, the exhibition generated so much response that ESNA, in collaboration with the RKD and NWO, decided to organize an international conference on the subject, focusing specifically on international as well as national and local points of encounter and how they facilitated artistic exchange.
