  À l’ombre des maîtres : les artistes « secondaires » en peinture, sculpture et architecture (XIIe-XIXe siècle)

  Ces journées d'études doctorales internationales en histoire de l'art ont pour principal but d'offrir un espace de réflexion aux jeunes chercheurs de la discipline, qu'ils soient français ou étrangers. Il s'agit ainsi de favoriser les échanges et les débats entre doctorants, jeunes chercheurs et collègues expérimentés. Dans ce but, le choix du thème de recherche - les artistes dits "secondaires" en peinture, sculpture et architecture (XII^e-XIX^e siècle) - offre un vaste de cadre réflexion dans lequel nombre d'études actuelles prennent place. C'est ainsi l'occasion de rappeler que les recherches doctorales en histoire de l'art sont en effet souvent porteuses de nouveaux questionnements. Elles enrichissent considérablement les connaissances sur les pratiques artistiques et sont désormais incontournables dans le renouvellement et l'approfondissement de ces dernières.

  ¿Qué criterios han de guiar la selección del Arte Medieval? ¿Siguen siendo válidas las valoraciones que conformaron la historia del arte medieval en los siglos XIX y XX? ¿Se ha revisado el canon para hacerlo acorde a los intereses, métodos y perspectivas de la nueva historia del arte entrado el siglo XXI? Y, no menos importante, ¿de qué modo podemos conocer el aprecio y el prestigio de que gozaron las obras en el momento en que fueron creadas?

  Die Visualisierung des Unsichtbaren

  2016 ging ein Studientag des Centre d’Etudes Médiévales (CEM) der Universität Genf der Frage nach, auf welche Weise sich die von der Musik inspirierten Sprache in der vormodernen Mystik dem per se Unsagbaren nähert. Die interdisziplinàre Tagung Mystik, Sprache, Bild. Die Visualisierung des Unsichtbaren (18./19.10. 2019) verschiebt die Perspektivevom Hör- zum Sichtbaren. Welchen Beitrag leistet die Analyse schriftliterarischer Berichte oder ikonographischer Bildzeugnisse für das Studium sprachlicher und bildlicher Repräsentationen des Göttlichen und der Begegnung mit diesem? Antworten auf diese und ähnliche Fragen sollen mit Rückgriff auf Fallbeispiele aus dem literarischen und ikonographischen Fundus des europäischen und nahöstlichen Mittelalters und der Frühen Neuzeit bis zum 17. Jahrhundert gesucht werden.

  Symbolic and Material Changes to Cult Images in the Classical and Medieval Ages

  Iconotropy is a Greek word which literally means “image turning.” William J. Hamblin (2007) defines the term as “the accidental or deliberate misinterpretation by one culture of the images or myths of another one, especially so as to bring them into accord with those of the first culture.” In fact, iconotropy is commonly the result of the way cultures have dealt with images from foreign or earlier cultures. Numerous accounts from classical antiquity and the Middle Ages detail how cult images were involved in such processes of misinterpretation, both symbolically and materially. Pagan cultures for example deliberately misrepresented ancient ritual icons and incorporated new meanings to the mythical substratum, thus modifying the myth’s original meanings and bringing about a profound change to existing religious paradigms. Iconotropy is a fundamental concept in religious history, particularly of contexts in which religious changes, often turbulent, took place. At the same time, the iconotropic process of appropriating cult images brought with it changes in the materiality of those images...The conference hopes to generate new research questions and creative synergies by initiating conversation and the exchange of ideas among scholars in the arts and humanities.
