Les projets de thèse et les mémoires doivent porter sur l’analyse des évolutions des situations familiales, l'analyse des prestations et des politiques familiales ainsi que l'étude des problèmes sociaux en lien avec la famille. La Cnaf n’attend pas des projets de thèse appliqués ou opérationnels.

L'alternant·e participera aux recherches de capitalisation (documentation, bibliographie scientifique, entretiens à dire d’expert, etc.) et aux formalisations de cette connaissance (synthèses, vulgarisation, analyses croisées). Une partie des recherches portera plus particulièrement sur les potentiels d’innovation en Afrique et en Amérique du Sud.
