Périphéries et recentrements en histoire de l'architecture
Les périphéries de l’histoire de l’architecture, qu’elles soient topographiques, chronologiques, épistémologiques, méthodologiques, historiographiques, sont les ferments d’un renouvellement et d’un recentrement permanents de la discipline. Les contributions attendues se centreront sur les facteurs de renouvellement de l’histoire de l’architecture par l’apport des autres disciplines et de nouvelles méthodes, par l’étude de ses malentendus et de ses angles morts topographiques, temporels et thématiques.

Comparative perspectives on the cultural life and regional sociabilities in Quebec (1800-1939)
Le Centre interuniversitaire d’études québécoises (CIÉQ) et le Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la littérature et la culture québécoises (CRILCQ) proposent de réfléchir aux rapports entre presse et centres urbains régionaux entre 1800 et 1939. Dans une perspective interdisciplinaire, professeurs, chercheurs et étudiants des cycles supérieurs sont invités à croiser leurs regards et leurs analyses autour d’un espace et d’un agent important de la vie culturelle urbaine. Comment certains centres s’imposent-ils comme villes régionales d’importance ? À quoi cet essor est-il dû ? Comment les journaux régionaux se positionnent-ils comme relais et acteurs d’une vie culturelle urbaine en émergence ? De façon plus large, que peut-on appréhender de la vie culturelle et des sociabilités en province au Québec ? Que peut-on cerner de cette urbanisation qui se produit à une autre échelle que celle vécue à Montréal et, dans une moindre mesure, à Québec ?

Concepts and Praxis of Rapprochement during the 20th Century
Today there are almost 20,000 communal partnerships across Europe. In fact, they have become somewhat of a mass phenomenon since the 1960s. Despite this impressive development, historical research has shown little devotion to this particular form of international relations. Its detailed analysis, however, allows special insight into the participation of “common citizens” in international initiatives and international exchange in a communal setting. The goal of the conference is to depict the history of town twinning by challenging the concept and definition thereof. City partnerships have particularly developed in the context of bilateral rapprochement after the Second World War, the European Integration and the Cold War. Since the collapse of the Soviet bloc, they have also become a symbol for a Europe of civil partnership “from below”. Furthermore, they do not only play an important role in Europe and its relations with its neighbors, but through globalization, ultimately with the rest of the world.

Revue Urbanités no. 5 (May 2015)
Après avoir questionné la place des plaisirs en ville, le cinquième numéro d’Urbanités interroge la ville comme lieu d’exercice du châtiment. Punition sévère donnée à celui qui a – prétendument ou non – commis une faute, pour le corriger, le châtiment s’inflige aux humains à l’intérieur des enceintes de nos villes par l’exécution en place publique ; contre les murs des cités pour les détruire à coups de bombardements ; en y construisant des murs pour séparer un territoire d’un autre territoire, les détenus de leurs proches. Ce numéro d'Urbanités s'attache à interroger les modalités du châtiment en ville, son inscription spatiale, les lieux qu’il produit, les pratiques et représentations qu’il façonne.

In these times when urban marketing is being applied to outline the identity of our cities with a view to promoting it more effectively, this international seminar proposes to reflect upon the representation systems of European port cities on the Atlantic and the Mediterranean from the 18th century through to the present day. The relationship between city and port – we will be addressing only sea ports here – is far from simple, depending on the types of activities (trade, industry, military, tourism, etc.) and from one period in time to another, with the relationships urban societies have with their port spaces and activities varying in intensity and in nature, especially as the long period of time considered here spans the phases of the development of maritime activity, its decline and, more recently, urban restructuring. In this respect, quaysides form the line along which city and port meet, and provide the most tangible illustration of these transformations. Over the years, how have urban societies represented their ports and the opening onto the world they provide?

Intermediate Groups in the Portuguese Dominions, 16th-18th century
Revista de História (Universidade de São Paulo)
The Revista de História of the University of São Paulo (Brazil) invites interested scholars to submit proposals for articles to be published as part of a ‘dossier’ concerning intermediate groups in the Portuguese dominions on the Early Modern Age. Throughout that period, ‘middle people’ strove to assert themselves in rural areas and helped to shape old and new urban centers in the Portuguese World, corresponding to an increased demand for specialized services and ensuring the necessary extensions of royal representation functions and Church activities. Even though almost non-existent in juridical or normative terms, those groups were recognized both by nationals and foreigners as a complex and vibrant intermediate social layer. Time has come to try and distinguish its specificities, trends of formation and effective roles in social dynamics.

The Ruins of the Heritagization
The aim of ‘Ruins of the Heritagization’ is to institute an archeology of territories considered as being ‘heritage’ focusing the "ruins" produced by the process of labelling cities. ‘Ruins of the Heritagization’ will be set in two moments of reflection, in Rio de Janeiro and in Paris. They will allow the mobilization of efforts to focus on what in the speeches and patrimonial practices is perceived as "saved" while being, at the same time, what trivializes a local economy, promotes the destruction of informal settlements, or still, transforms radically established practices. Relating what labeling leaves on the territories, which territories it produces and leaves as inheritance will be the subject of these meetings.

City versus digital: stakes of a project conjugated in future
This colloquium aims at contributing to the development of understanding the social dynamics and policies that arise at the crossing point between digital concepts and contemporary urban city as a context. Considering the city as active support of a political and social space mirroring the Greek polis, this scientific event will be registered in anthropology of the relation between “city” and “digital”. Perspectives on dual aspects of this study will focus on the different concepts that characterize their relationships and the stakeholders who are involved. How are the socio-political stakes of the city built through the development of the notions of “digital city”, “smart city”, “city 2.0” or “contributory city”?

Island Cities and Urban Archipelagos
The ‘Island Cities and Urban Archipelagos’ conference explores the culture, economy, and politics of towns and cities based on islands worldwide. It considers common attributes of island cities, the influence of island status on urban development, and how and why different island cities have developed in different ways. Throughout history, islands have been sites of urban development. Physical separation from the mainland, spatial limitations, and maritime tradition facilitate transport of products and ideas, defence infrastructure, construction of social capital, consolidation of power, formation of cultures, and concentration of population.

El derecho a la ciudad en América Latina
Lo político de las políticas urbanas
El Grupo de Trabajo “El Derecho a la Ciudad en América Latina” (GT-DC), reconocido por el Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO), se ha conformado con el propósito de discutir y reflexionar sobre los contenidos teóricos y las experiencias desarrolladas en torno a esta temática de gran actualidad en la región de América Latina y el Caribe. Después de un primer evento que se realizó en febrero de 2014 en la Ciudad de México, el GT-DC lanza la convocatoria a estudiantes de posgrado, docentes, investigadores, gestores públicos y público en general a participar ya sea como ponente, asistente o ambos, en el segundo seminario que tendrá lugar en la ciudad de Lima los 21 y 22 de agosto de 2014.

Oppositions, tensions, negot4iations
Le projet de ce colloque est de s’attacher à l'étude des conflictualités urbaines. Celles-ci traversent les espaces urbains, se concentrent sur les projets d’aménagement, ici sur une destruction, là sur une réorganisation du tissu urbain, ou encore sur l’occupation et les usages des espaces publics. La perspective envisagée par le colloque est de privilégier les tensions sourdes, passant par exemple par les recours juridiques ou les mobilisations citoyennes, plutôt que de centrer l'analyse sur les flambées de « violences urbaines ». Le colloque propose ainsi d'aborder l'urbain sous l'angle des oppositions, tensions et confrontations entre groupes ou individus, révélatrices des manières différentes d'habiter la ville. Les conflits sont en effet révélateurs de jeux de pouvoir au sein de l’espace urbain, et font émerger des perceptions différentes, des modes variés d’appropriation de l’espace.

The position of children and adolescents in urban spaces
Annales de la recherche urbaine journal
Alors que la grande majorité des enfants et des adolescents vivent en ville aujourd’hui en France et qu’ils conditionnent partiellement les stratégies résidentielles des familles et les politiques publiques mises en œuvre pour répondre à leurs besoins, relativement peu de travaux se sont intéressés, à ce jour, à leur place dans les espaces urbains et périurbains. Aussi l’objectif de ce dossier des « Annales de la recherche urbaine » est-il de présenter des recherches interrogeant la place des enfants et des adolescents dans les espaces urbains et périurbains en France ou ailleurs. Quelle visibilité ont-ils dans la ville d’aujourd’hui ? Quel est leur rapport aux espaces urbains ? Quel est le poids des représentations dans les pratiques des enfants et des adolescents et dans les politiques publiques les concernant ? De quelle manière ces dernières les prennent-elles en compte ?

Appel à articles organisé par l'École supérieure d'architecture de Casablanca, dans la perspective du colloque des 23 et 24 octobre 2014 sur les 100 ans d'urbanisme de la ville. Le colloque rassemblant des architectes, des urbanistes, des historiens, des sociologues et des économistes se donne pour objet d’étudier l’histoire de l’urbanisation de la ville, de s’interroger sur la fonction du plan et de son impact sur le fait urbain, tout en ouvrant des perspectives pour une vision quant à l’avenir de la métropole.

Territorial Development and Planning of Sporting and Leisure Facilities
Local Equipment for the Major International Infrastructure
The possibility of physical and sporting activities is an added value for territories in terms of attractiveness and vitality. The presence of modern and prestigious sporting equipment, but also more modest outreach activities, that meet local needs are at the source of the dynamism of certain cities and various communities. At all levels of government, public stakeholders, at times partnered with private players, no longer hesitate to plan the development of their sporting facilities according to prioritized strategies. In other words, following a deep reflection on the potential of each existing or envisaged piece of equipment, a hierarchic action and exploitation is developed, generally with a renowned symbolic infrastructure at the top and, at different levels, satellite equipment that has a local, regional, and national reach. It is this hierarchic and multi scale logic which will be investigated from an international analytic perspective in this special edition.

The goal of this conference is to question European urban fringes, which we define as precise or graduated transitional spaces where the city leaves space for something else : countryside, forests, “nature,” wasteland or fallow awaiting projects... These urban fringes can be understood at different scales, from the overall agglomeration down to the quarter or even at the installation project scale. This conference is designed as a moment of exchange making it possible to compare research and management experiences around this original object concentrating numerous issues. Different axes of analysis are proposed : Landscapes and urban fringe physiognomies ; agricultures and cities ; nature and biodiversity ; Urban margins : marginalising and social mixing ; Urban limits under constraint: risks and protected spaces.

Merchant intermediation and the evolution of European trade practices
De l’apparition des premières Bourses de commerce dans l’Italie médiévale à l’apogée des places d’Amsterdam et de Londres, où ils se comptent par centaines, les courtiers exercent des fonctions variées. Points de rencontre entre acteurs marchands, instruments de la confrontation d’une offre et d’une demande agrégée, mais aussi observateurs privilégiés et vigilants de l’arrivée de nouveaux produits, ils sont pourtant restés relativement à l’écart de l’historiographie économique récente. Pour les remettre au centre des problématiques, ce colloque propose une interrogation sur le pouvoir qu'ils peuvent exercer, et dont les manifestations se lisent dans des sources très variées (manuels de négociants, correspondances ou comptes commerciaux, archives des corporations, notariat, sources judiciaires etc.).

Urban planning and social mobilisation from the Middle Ages to the present day
Ce colloque abordera les diverses formes de mobilisations collectives qui ont pris les villes de toute importance comme objet. À partir d’études de cas, il s’agit de cerner les relations sociales qui s’élaborent au moment où divers groupes sociaux voient l’espace matériel dans lequel ils s’inscrivent se modifier, ou quand au contraire, ils s’engagent en faveur de transformations alternatives. En choisissant la longue durée, le colloque permettra de dénaturaliser la question de l’aménagement urbain qui s’inscrit toujours dans un contexte – qu’on pourra décrire à plusieurs échelles d’action et de décision – propre à chaque époque. Les propositions de communications sont attendues avant le 15 mai 2014.

Cities and urban-ness in the Maghreb
Maghreb Year XII – 2015 research dossier
Ce dossier a pour ambition de faire le point sur les savoirs nouveaux apportés par la recherche et d’explorer différents champs et approches liées à la question urbaine dans les sociétés maghrébines. Cela passe par certains déplacements de l’analyse. Alors que la question des processus de fabrication de la ville a longtemps été centrale, l’analyse des pratiques urbaines en constitue une alternative en même temps qu’un prolongement et une interfacedont on cherchera à déployer et mettre en perspective différentes dimensions : « La ville est sans cesse fabriquée, détruite et recomposée » (Roncayolo). Mais, plus qu’un changement d’angle de vue, le nouveau contexte ouvert par « les printemps arabes » a été, outre que politique, un fort révélateur de transformations socio-économiques et culturelles majeurs dans les sociétés maghrébines.Il nous interroge aussi bien sur le lien social (solidarités et sociabilités urbaines versus fragmentation, communautarisme) que sur les mobilisations habitantes dans des contextes d’ouverture de l’espace public,et ce en relation avec un certain ébranlement de systèmes politiques marqués jusque là par l’autoritarisme.
