Arts and Literature in Latin America in the 21st Century: A Crossroads?

    Amerika n°32

Following the colloquium held in Rennes, France, on October 9 and 10, to celebrate the magazine's fifteenth anniversary and as we approach the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, we would like to explore how contemporary Latin American imaginaries (primarily through literary and artistic production) contextualize not only belonging to specific territories but also the place these territories occupy in an increasingly globalized cultural universe.

    Circus Arts without Borders

For a world history of the circus from Antiquity to the present day

For the past twenty years or so, the history of the circus has benefited from an undeniable scientific dynamism. While the circus is essentially an international art form, until now its history has mainly been written from a national perspective. The aim of this conference is to decompartmentalise these historiographies by inviting researchers in history and, more broadly, in the arts and the social sciences (performing arts, art history, sociology, anthropology, etc.), as well as those involved in the artistic and cultural world, to combine their approaches.

Improving the quality of working life

    “Laboreal”, July 2025 edition

Over the last twenty years, there has been a proliferation of research and interventions whose purpose, in contrast to the strict profitability objective of ‘quality circles’, focuses on the quality of working life. They have often been designated by the acronym QWL. This designation authorizes a wide range of methodologies and actions and there have been proposals structured considering diagnoses and interventions that were based on the workers’ point of view and on what happens in reality at work situations. In these approaches, the tradition of activity ergonomics and work psychology once again demonstrate the wealth of methodological tools and intervention models. Laboreal invites researchers to present studies addressing this issue, in particular those that present detailed field experiences.

Each thematic dossier includes scientific articles, but can also include field notes, reviews, interviews and opinion or literary texts.

Religions, Individuals, and Communities in the Americas

As recurring objects of analysis running the whole gamut of humanities and social sciences, the ties between religions, communities, and the individuals within them have constantly been used to gauge tensions within social structures. All the more so on the American continent, where the destructive spiral of colonization set off waves of migration, and the pluralism within the communities and religions from the Northwest Territories to Tierra del Fuego delineates both their differences and similarities. Is there such a thing as specifically American structures when it comes to religions and communities? That is one of the questions posed by the present 18th issue of RITA.

A beautiful painting ? Aesthetic canon(s) and pictorial production within the Spanish Crown territories (16th-19th centuries)

The origins of social conflict: history, actors, modalities and representations

    19th-21st centuries/European and American continents

Conversation rediscovered. Conversational variations from the XVIth to the XXIst century in the western world

This edition of Savoirs en Prisme review proposes some reflexions on how their manner of conversing defines human societies. Nowadays the word conversation can refer to interactions without voice or body using predictive text and artificial intelligence. Can this type of communication meet the needs of human beings? Is not face-to-face conversation a necessity, almost an urgency at the moment? Literature and all forms of representations have bequeathed to us this principle present at the very core of societies.

Afro-Diasporic Imaginaries in 20th and 21st–Century Latin American and Caribbean Literature and Visual Arts

In this volume, we would like to analyze in depth the paths taken by the 20th and 21st century Latin American and Caribbean letters in relation to the experience of the black diaspora in dialogue with the visual arts, as well as in relation to the main themes, forms and techniques used by artist, playwrights, poets, storytellers and writers. In a context of increasing violence and intolerance towards minorities in Latin America, we will welcome analyses that focus on the relationship between literature and the resistance of the cultures created by the black diaspora.
