  « Sans famille » en Europe centrale : Réinventer l'orphelin de l'ère fasciste à l'ère socialiste

  Contrat doctoral international H/F 2020-2023

  Ce contrat doctoral international de 36 mois à temps plein à Sorbonne Université (école doctorale IV), dans l'UMR Eur'ORBEM, en partenariat avec le Centre français de recherche en sciences sociales (CEFRES) à Prague, se déroulera à partir du 1er octobre 2020, sous la direction de Clara Royer. La thèse peut être rédigée en français ou en anglais. La thèse sera consacrée aux discours et pratiques relatifs aux orphelins dans la littérature et/ou les arts visuels (cinéma, photographie, arts plastiques, etc.) dans le sillage des violences et des bouleversements démographiques qui ont marqué l'Europe centrale au XX^e siècle. Interdisciplinaire, la thèse est ouverte à des candidats en histoire sociale, en études littéraires et/ou en arts visuels spécialisés dans un ou plusieurs pays de la région.

  Focus 2018: Transnational and Regional Dynamics

  Europe’s neighbourhood has experienced armed conflict, political transition and authoritarian restoration along with profound social and economic change. These transformation processes with deep historical roots have usually resulted from an interplay of domestic and transnational actors and factors. In order to reveal their complexity, a view through a transnational and regional lens can be rewarding: Which interdependences – past and present – are constitutive for the neighbouring regions of the European Union? How can we study transnational influences and effects on change in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East and North Africa region? How to distinguish and take into account factors of change across national borders and social boundaries? To which extent do these factors shape political, social and economic realities in these regions?

  Four Post-doctoral positions on "Luxury, Fashion and Social statuS in Early Modern South-Eastern Europe"

  New Europe College - Institute for Advanced Study

  Following the European Research Council competition for Consolidator Grants (2014), New Europe College became the Host Institution of such a grant. The project title is Luxury, Fashion and Social statuS in Early Modern South-Eastern Europe and its Principal Investigator is Constanţa Vintilă-Ghiţulescu, researcher at New Europe College and at the “Nicolae Iorga” Institute of History in Bucharest. The project aims to trace the role luxury played in the modernisation process in South-Eastern Europe, taking into account the specific features of the region and how South-Eastern European peoples, and their Byzantine and Ottoman heritage are viewed through the stereotype of “Balkanism”. The project’s findings will help towards a better knowledge of changes in European society in its transition to modernity, and of similarities and differences between the various regions of Europe.
