  The Bible and Migration

  Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “The Bible and Migration”, prepared in collaboration with the conference The Bible on the Move: Toward a Biblical Theology of Migration, held at Fuller Theological Seminary in January 2020. This special issue asks how cutting-edge biblical scholarship should inform conversation about and action relating to migration in the twenty-first century, bridging the gap between biblical studies, theology, and activism. Articles should examine how the biblical texts reflect diverse migrant experiences, as well as ways in which these texts reflect theologically on migration and appropriate responses to it among migrants and host communities. Articles may also critically interrogate the Bible’s use in arguments over migration and migrants’ reception by host communities.

  Revolutionary cosmopolitanism. Transnational migration and political activism, 1815-1848

  The period 1815-1848 not only was characterized by several waves of revolution in Europe, the Atlantic world and beyond, but also by large movements of migration. Although these migrations can often be associated with political uprisings, only few connections have been made between the study of migration history and history of political thought and practices. This one-day conference aims to bring together these different strands of research and to discuss how experiences of migration and cross-boundary mobility contributed to the formation of common revolutionary cultures in the period 1815-1848.

  Les relations Europe-Arabie (XIXe-XXIe siècle)

  Ce colloque international s’intéressera aux liens entre l’Europe et la péninsule Arabique à l’époque contemporaine, depuis les débuts de la mondialisation de l’âge industriel jusqu’aux derniers développements économiques et stratégiques contemporains. Leur comparaison ainsi que l’étude du contenu et de l’évolution des échanges sont un moyen de mieux comprendre ce qui relie l’Europe et la péninsule Arabique. Pour étudier à la fois le contenu des échanges et leur évolution, deux axes seront privilégiés : les relations culturelles et scientifiques en lien avec l’évolution des regards mutuels du XIX^e au XXI^e siècle ; l’évolution des relations économiques du XIX^e au XXI^e siècle.

  Configurações contemporâneas do racismo e do eurocentrismo

  Debates sobre os discursos e práticas académicos e políticos

  The main objective of this international workshop is to promote a debate that engages both with current issues on knowledge/history production and with contemporary discourses/policies on immigration and ‘integration’, taking their intersection as crucial to unravel the relations between the constant (re)making of nation boundaries and ideas of political belonging. We propose that a breakthrough approach requires the challenging of a Eurocentric paradigm, now hegemonic, that is preventing a thorough debate on racism as being embedded on the history of modern science, capitalism, liberal democracies and the state of law.
