  Cartographies de l'Europe du Sud-Est

  The Association international d’études du sud-est européen is happy to invite you to the 12^th Congress of South-East European Studies, taking place in Bucharest, from the 2^nd to the 7^th of September 2019. One of the conference panels, organized by Robert Born (Leipzig) and Marian Coman (Bucharest), is dedicated to the cartographic history of south-eastern Europe. Proposals for individual papers are welcome on various aspects of the history of south-eastern Europe cartography, from the Ottoman period to the post-communist era. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: Renaissance and Early Modern maps of the Ottoman Empire, Enlightenment cartographies of Eastern Europe, the birth of national cartography, war and peace cartographies, historical and propaganda maps, national and local surveys, Cold War cartographies.

  América Latina en la mira: Poder y representación en fuentes audiovisual

  Forma Revista d'Estudis Comparatius. Art, Literatura, Pensament

  This issue seeks to critically address power structures in audiovisual (re)productions in and from Latin America and discuss how these play a role in the societal construction and representation of individual and collective identities, the ‘us’ and the ‘other’. By doing so, it aims at understanding how these representations – and broader discourses associated therewith – can be critically examined through media productions (cinema, television, radio, photography etc.) and their use as historical sources.

They will discuss and reflect upon the consequences of the new geopolitical order that came into being after the First World War, and how that war and its legacy have been remembered up to the present day.

  Poder y medios de comunicación, poder de los medios de comunicación

  Miradas sobre las Américas

  Para su 11a edición, RITA proponer interrogar en su sección temática Thema los vínculos entre poder y medios de comunicación en las Américas. Varias pistas de reflexión pueden ser evocadas sin por lo tanto ser exclusivas. Naturalmente, los artículos que traten del análisis crítico de medios oficiales o de los medios de oposición serán bienvenidos. Otras contribuciones podrán estudiar los efectos de los diferentes tratos mediáticos reservados a los movimientos populares. También esperamos análisis críticos de los vínculos entre medios y poderes económicos. El dossier temático también podrá integrar reflexiones sobre la reciente diversificación de los medios de información, focalizándose por ejemplo en el surgimiento de medios “alternativos” en Internet, o tratando del poder de los fake news en la construcción de representaciones colectivas.

  Questioning Spaces of Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean

  Latin American History Graduate Student Conference

  Scholars often invoke citizenship as an analytic frame to understand the history of Latin America and the Caribbean. While the concept can encompass a broad range of topics, this conference will focus on the spaces where individuals and groups come into contact with the institutions and symbols of the state. These spaces may be physical places, institutional settings, discursive realms, or other fora. In this graduate student conference, we will ask how such spaces of citizenship are constructed, delimited, and at times rejected, and how the terms of interaction and negotiation in these spaces are defined and re-defined.

  Os regimes ditatoriais aprisionam, raptam, espiam, torturam e matam. Os crimes praticados pelos regimes totalitários são dos mais diversos; das formas leves de coerção - restrições à liberdade de movimento e expressão, expropriação, negação de serviços públicos - até genocídio. Tais abusos dão origem ao ódio moral, ao ressentimento e à indignação para com os agressores, e destes em relação aos testemunhos e às vítimas. Uma vez os regimes autoritários chegados ao fim, as instituições são confrontadas com o legado duma história recente de medo e opressão e com uma série de perguntas cruciais. Este passado deveria receber uma voz ou deveria ser silenciado? A raiva das vítimas deveria ser contada ou suprimida? As contas com o passado devem permanecer fechadas para manter a paz ou devem ser acertadas para fazer justiça?
