We particularly welcome proposals that focus on a wide range of traditions and cultural contexts, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Indigenous traditions, Afro-diasporic religions, and esotericism. We also encourage contributions that examine phenomena at the intersections of religion and broader cultural domains, for example conspiracy theories, speculative fiction, nonfiction paranormal narratives, and apocalyptic narratives.

“Angelaki: Journal of the Theoretical Humanities”, special issue (33.5)
This special issue of Angelaki: New Work in the Theoretical Humanities - book series invites contributions that revisit the concept of khôra, introduced in Plato’s Timaeus as a “third kind” beyond being and becoming, a matrix, a receptacle, and reinterpreted in contemporary philosophy, most notably by Derrida. Situated between presence and absence, intelligibility and materiality, khôra resists stable categorization while remaining indispensable for thinking space, inscription, and receptivity. We seek papers that engage khôra across disciplines, exploring its implications for spatial theory, media, politics, ecology, and aesthetics, as well as its limits and possible reconfigurations today.

Identity Negotiation and Ethnic Diversity in the Ancient World
The conference Between Eagles and Dragons: Identity Negotiation and Ethnic Diversity in the Ancient World explores the processes through which ethnic identities were constructed, contested, and transformed across multi-ethnic societies of ancient Eurasia. Bringing into dialogue regions from the Mediterranean to India and China, the event aims to investigate how institutions, cultural practices, languages, and historical narratives shaped categories of belonging and otherness. By adopting a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective, the conference seeks to highlight the fluid, dynamic, and historically contingent nature of identity formation in the ancient world.

Animal Behaviour and Environments: Ecological Perspectives from Antiquity to the Present
This conference aims, through a resolutely interdisciplinary approach, to explore the relations between animals and their environments. Bringing together scholars in ancient and medieval philology, the history of zoological knowledge, and contemporary ecological sciences, the event seeks to examine how living beings interact with their surroundings—and how these interactions have been conceptualised, described, and modelled from Antiquity to the present. Two main thematic axes will structure the discussion: 1. Animals and Environments: Ancient and Modern Ecologies; 2. Animal Ecological Awareness: Perception, Umwelt, and Narrative Models

Constraints and Sources of Innovation in Research
The visualization of archaeological results can clarify, while at the same time also obscure ; walking the line of simplification for public consumption, disagreements or misunderstandings among experts and color codes/omissions can blur the lines of where exactly uncertainty lies. Yet these constraints stimulate invention, participation, and new data. Sharing research findings with a general audience may result in oversimplification, while visualizing 3D models or other visual aids can lead to misunderstandings among experts. The limitations of visualization, such as colour coding, the omission of details, and inadequate information can lead to overanalysis, obscure uncertainty or skew tentative conclusions.

Worked shells in the ancient world
Material, use, typology, chronology and contexts
We are glad to inform you that an international e-conference on worked shells in the ancient world will take place on May 20, 2026 on Zoom.us. This forthcoming online meeting will be an archaeomalacological workshop in honour of Jean-Paul Descœudres from the Universities of Geneva and Sydney. Papers are invited to present evidence of human collection and modification of shells from all over the ancient world (especially the Mediterranean) and over a large chronological range (from Prehistory to Antiquity with a focus on the Roman world). We are interested in worked shells rather than those used as food or as environmental indicators.

Quarries and rock-cut sites through the lens of archaeology
The two-day conference, organised by the IRAAR group, will take place at the University of Edinburgh (UK). This conference explores the multifaceted relationships between humans and stone through an archaeological lens on quarrying, rock-cut architecture/site, and rock art. By addressing challenges of extraction, technological adaptation, and symbolic and practical engagements with rock, as well as heritage and recent research, the event fosters interdisciplinary dialogue on the transformation of rocky landscapes across time and space.

Archaeology Gone Astray: Forgeries, Misinterpretation, and Other Field Stories
UISPP Commission on the History of Archaeology conference
This conference, titled “Archaeology Gone Astray: Forgeries, Misinterpretations, and Other Field Stories”, is dedicated to the less glorious —but undeniably fascinating— chapters in the history of archaeology. We’ll delve into everything from notorious forgeries and spectacular blunders to interpretive dead ends and moments of… let’s say, excessive enthusiasm in the field. The event offers a space for reflection, self-reflection, and a bit of humor —because, like any living science, archaeology sometimes takes a wrong turn. Yet, even when it goes astray, it always leads to something interesting. While the main theme centers on the field’s twists, turns, and detours, the program will also feature an open session for participants who wish to present their current research projects.

Man-made Environmental Impact in Antiquity
XI Conference on Classical Philology in honorem Jorge Rojas Otálora
Classical texts reflect a profound awareness of human impact on the environment. From Homer’s flooded rivers to Roman mining techniques and the exploitation of animals, the ancient world reveals complex interactions with nature. This is an invitation to contribute by exploring ecological transformation, environmental thought, and ethical views on animals in Antiquity. Literary, philosophical, and historical approaches are welcome in examining how ancient cultures shaped and conceptualized their natural world. The aim is to enrich contemporary discussions with insights from Antiquity.
