The New Shape of Sharing: Networks, Expertise, Information
Online series on key issues facing Western European collections and public services will encourage debate and surface new ideas. The sessions will focus on three areas: new models for collaborative collection development and services; the growing range of content and format types and their significance for libraries and researchers; and the evolving role of libraries and librarians in the research process. The multiple effects of the pandemic on libraries and academic institutions clearly demonstrate that the topics chosen for the forum—cooperation and sharing of collections, services, and technology among libraries, scholars, and members of the book and publishing communities—are particularly pertinent in today’s library environment.

Politics of epistemic vulnerability in the nuclear age
Nuclear choices commit populations and societies for at least decades and can cause large scale damage in a very short period of time. How is the scope of available nuclear choices decided then? When it comes to weapons, direct experience cannot be the answer as no one can rely on personal experience of nuclear war. Most decision-makers no longer even have the experience of the effects of such weapons either given that North Korea has been the only country testing nuclear weapons since 1998. The populations’ wishes do not qualify either, since they are very rarely consulted and only few studies on those attitudes exist.Therefore this multi-year seminar investigates the grounds on which the scope of publicly acceptable nuclear choices have been based since the end of nuclear testing.

L'objectif de ce séminaire consiste à articuler transformations urbaines, migration et mondialisation pour mieux comprendre la fabrication des villes-mondes plurielles, marquées par de très forts taux d’immigration et de part de population étrangère. Partant des pratiques et des représentations des différents acteurs sociaux, économiques et politiques qui produisent et vivent dans ces villes, il s’intéresse aux modalités d’incarnation socio-spatiales de la diversité, ainsi qu’à sa gestion. En pensant simultanément les connexions et les ancrages, en jouant systématiquement sur l’articulation des échelles, l’enjeu du séminaire est d’élaborer un cadre analytique théorique comparatif afin de réfléchir aux modes de transformation des métropoles plurielles, engagées dans des dynamiques de mondialisation, en fonction de leur insertion dans les réseaux globalisés, de leur taille démographique et de leurs héritages et contextes politiques.

Resulting from a series of developed works in the last decade within the framework of social sciences (namely Sociology of Culture, Sociology of Arts, Sociology of Youth, Urban Sociology and Sociology of Music), in this advanced seminar we will have the opportunity of deepening the understanding around the importance, functioning, process, the agents, characteristics, genres and subgenres of the current urban music scenes. The ANOTHER MUSIC IN A DIFFERENT ROOM will be a fruitful space for ideas, discussions and, therefore, for a great developments on scientific knowledge. So, it’s our intention to share all this scientific dynamic with the world in order to contribute to a larger debate on music, youth, lifestyles, culture, cultural scenes, music scenes. Territorial and Border Configurations to the Test of Mobility and Migrations (19th-21st century)
Ce séminaire international organisé par le programme MIMED de la MMSH d'Aix-en-Provence en partenariat avec le CRFJ examinera l’évolution des processus sociaux, économiques et politiques liés à la mise en place de dispositifs de gestion des mobilités et de la coprésence en Méditerranée. Il envisagera à la fois les politiques publiques mettant en place ces dispositifs à l’échelle d’Etats, de régions ou de villes, et les réactions des populations à ces dispositifs, leurs formes d’adaptation, de transgression ou de contournement. Il tentera enfin d’évaluer dans quelle mesure les réactions des populations peuvent en retour affecter les dispositifs. Dans la durée (du XIXe au XXIe siècle), Il s'agira d'interroger l’influence croissante des processus nés de la globalisation sur les mobilités et les configurations territoriales. -

Ce séminaire fait partie d’un projet plus large de collaboration avec le Centre d’étude de la première guerre mondiale de l’Université de Birmingham, et a pour ambition de créer un réseau international de chercheurs de disciplines différentes travaillant sur l’entre-deux-guerres en France et en Grande-Bretagne. En s’appuyant sur les études récentes des démobilisations politiques et culturelles, il s’agit de contribuer à l’historiographie des sorties de guerre à travers une approche renouvelée de la reconstruction en Europe. -

What is the historical experience of cities in the former territories of the Ottoman Empire - in the Balkans, Anatolia, the Middle East, and North Africa - in dealing with the impact of global changes and the transformation from Empire to nation States? How did people of different cultural, social and religious backgrounds live together? How are such examples of conviviality, conflict, migration, and urban regimes of governance and stratification conceptualized? And how have urban traditions been reinterpreted, and what bearing does this have on modern conceptions of civil society, multicultural societies, migration, or cosmopolitanism. En ce sens, il constitue un forum unique au monde de rencontres et de discussions sur l'histoire de ces organismes internationaux et sur la question des sources d'archives en leur possession. Pour l'année académique 2009-2010, le Groupe d'histoire des organisations internationales organise une série de conférences où seront traitées différentes thématiques en lien avec l'histoire et les activités des organisations internationales. Troisième séance du séminaire IG3T (Internet Governance: Transparency, Trust and Tools)
La normativité technique d’Internet pose un problème d’autant plus aigu que ses dimensions socio-technique et socio-éthique sous-jacentes demeurent le plus souvent soustraites à toute forme de critique réflexive. Les dispositifs techniques (supports, systèmes, réseaux) sont souvent représentés comme des objets complexes, mais qui, du point de vue de la normativité, relèvent d’une sorte de neutralité structurelle et fonctionnelle. Or, il importe d'ouvrir la « boîte noire » de la technique afin d’identifier et de discuter les formes de normativité que ces dispositifs véhiculent, avec ou sans volonté délibérée de la part de leurs concepteurs. Il s’agit en particulier de déterminer jusqu’à quels degrés et selon quelles modalités les systèmes de décision et de régulation qui ont à gérer les normes techniques d’Internet (a) peuvent intégrer des conceptions socio-techniques et socio-éthiques dans leur développement, (b) peuvent s’ouvrir à des contre-pouvoirs politiques. -

What is the historical experience of cities in the former territories of the Ottoman Empire - in the Balkans, Anatolia, the Middle East, and North Africa - in dealing with the impact of global changes and the transformation from Empire to nation States? How did people of different cultural, social and religious backgrounds live together? How are such examples of conviviality, conflict, migration, and urban regimes of governance and stratification conceptualized? And how have urban traditions been reinterpreted, and what bearing does this have on modern conceptions of civil society, multicultural societies, migration, or cosmopolitanism. These and other questions will be addressed in this year’s Seminar in Ottoman Urban Studies, with a specific focus on daily life issues. This seminar is supported by the research program ‘Europe in the Middle East – The Middle East in Europe’ EUME with funds of the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung. -
