  The state of liberal democracy in Central and Eastern Europe

  Workshop on the I·CONnect-Clough Center 2017 Global Review of Constitutional Law

  A day-long workshop on “The State of Liberal Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe,” co-hosted by Fruzsina Gárdos-Orosz, director, HAS Centre for Social Sciences Institute for Legal Studies, and Eszter Bodnár, co-chair, ICON-S Central and Eastern European Chapter. The program will be held on December 6, 2018, at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Centre for Social Sciences Institute for Legal Studies, 1097 Budapest, Tóth Kálmán utca 4, in the Institute for Legal Studies Meeting Room (wing T ground floor 0.25). The program will feature the presentation and discussion of country reports in the annual I-CONnect-Clough Center Global Review of Constitutional Law.

  Populism in Central and Eastern Europe in the 20th Century

  Since the 1990s, several political movements qualified as “populist” have emerged in Central and Eastern Europe, drawing the attention of political scientists. If we want to understand why these movements exercise such attraction and why they are so relentless in this space, it is necessary to cross the study of current politics with the analysis of long term developments. Indeed, since the 19^th century, Central and Eastern Europe has known several movements and political parties that have called themselves or have been labelled as “populist”. In this sense, the long-term approach allows considering the similarities and the differences, according to different contexts and periods, and identifying the reasons and the mechanisms of action of these movements. At last, this historical approach helps to consider the specificity - if there is any specificity - of these movements in Central and Eastern Europe and to evaluate their impact on political cultures of the region.

  A political history of techno-scientific governance: the shaping of transnational networks of Cold-War elites

  Le programme ERC Futurepol « A political history of the future » coordonné par Jenny Andersson (CNRS, Sciences Po) organise le 7 juin 2012 de 14h30 à 16h30 à Sciences Po (salle du conseil - 13, rue de l'Université - 75007 Paris) un séminaire intitulé « A political history of techno-scientific governance: the shaping of transnational networks of Cold War elites ».À cette occasion, Egle Rindzeviciute (Sciences Po) et Leena Riska-Campbell (Université d'Helsinky) viendront présenter leurs recherches sur l'International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) et son rôle pendant la Guerre Froide. Elles seront discutées par Marie-Laure Djelic (ESSEC Business School).

  Jeunesses radicales entre idéologie, expressivité et violence : comparaisons autour de l'expérience russe

  Ces journées d'études sur les jeunesses radicales se pencheront sur les différentes dimensions et significations des mouvements de jeunesse radicales, interroger à partir du cas de la Russie, mais avec des comparaisons d'autres pays européens. Plusieurs recherches de terrain seront présentées. Quatre panels marqueront les deux demi-journées, le premier autour du socle idéologique de ces mouvements, le second sur les études de cas empiriques de certains d'entre deux ; Le troisième s'interrogera sur la place et le sens de la violence dans ces mouvements tandis que le dernier laissera voir les dimensions d'expressivité qu'ils peuvent revêtir.

  The Legacy and Memory of Communism in Europe

  Cet atelier sur l'héritage et la mémoire du communisme propose une discussion sur l'évaluation de ce qui reste vivant, de ce qui a été oublié ou ignoré de cette expérience centrale du 20e siècle dans les sociétés et les politiques européennes. Il se concentre moins sur l'histoire du communisme en tant que tel que sur sa mémoire et son héritage dans les sociétés européennes depuis 1989. Il analysera la cassure entre les perceptions du communisme à l'Ouest et à l'Est. Il analysera aussi non seulement les traumatismes de la mémoire mais aussi toute forme de souvenirs et de représentation du passé aussi bien la nostalgie que les silences, les révisionismes et et les dénis.
