Bêtise(s) et intelligence(s) de la numérisation du monde

En raison de l’épidémie actuelle de Covid-19, l'événement a été annulé et est en attente d'un report à une date ultérieure.

Ce colloque sera le moment de réfléchir à l’entrelacs entre différentes strates problématiques de la « numérisation du monde », sans négliger un élément central : toutes ces intelligences ont toujours besoin d’exister d’une manière ancrée, ce qui nous conduit à mettre en évidence le concept de territoire. Celui-ci ne sera pas entendu au sens simplement physique, mais aussi écologique, administratif, politique, éthique et existentiel, de l’ordre du milieu ou du transindividuel. L'évènement sera l'occasion d’explorer ces nouveaux territoires et leurs intelligences (à l’aide des outils de l’architecture, de l’urbanisme et du design) pour aller au-delà des smart territories, au sens plat et « bête » de déploiement massif de toutes sortes de devices numériques.

Three-day international conference on the Photobook

This conference is on the social history of the photobook, whether photographer-driven, writer-driven, editor-driven, or publisher-driven. Papers will address: commitment or explicit political engagement; memory, commemoration and the writing of history; materiality (whether real or virtual), and how material form affects circulation, handling, critical responses and the social life of the photobook. Contributors will analyse these topics with respect to the growth of the market for the photobook as a commodity and an object of bibliophilic attention.

The Regional and Transregional in Romanesque Art and Architecture

The categorization of Romanesque by region was a cornerstone of 20th-century scholarship, and the subject is ripe for reappraisal, particularly in relation to transregional and pan-European artistic styles and approaches. In addition to a review of the historiography of the subject, individual papers are concerned with the strength, durability, mutability and geographical scope of regional styles, the extent to which media are important, the assumption and transmission of forms and motifs, the conditions that give rise to the development of transregional styles and the agencies that cut across territorial boundaries.

New research on the History of Chinese gardens and landscapes

Organised by Dr Jan Woudstra in conjunction with the Gardens Trust, the event will look at new discoveries in the field from both professionals and post-graduate students from around the world. Dr Alison Hardie will introduce the conference and outline the importance that Maggie Keswick’s 1978 book The Chinese Garden, History Art and Architecture has played in the subject. It is a unique opportunity to hear speakers from UK and International institutions to present their new research in the field. Talks will cover subjects as wide-ranging as Jesuit water landscapes, gardens as museums, Feng Shui symbolism and botanical watercolours.

The European Postwar and Contemporary Art Forum (EPCAF), a worldwide forum for scholars working on postwar and contemporary european art, is pleased to announce its Second June Colloquium on June 17th 2017. In addition to an informal EPCAF roundtable, EPCAF will have the honour of welcoming Paula Barreiro-Lopez (Universidad de Barcelona) for a Keynote Address during which she will present her latest book, Avant-garde, Art, and Criticism in Francoist Spain (Liverpool University Press, 2017). The 2017 Session of EPCAF June Colloquium will be dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Centre Pompidou with a series of six papers that address both the history of the institution and some aspects of its contemporary transformation.

Towards a graphic culture: studying drawing

Drawing seems nowadays to know unprecedented expansion and to invest all domains of the expression and the communication: book industries, cartoons and animation movies, video games, corporate communication… And we indeed face kind of a paradox: widely present, drawing seems almost impossible to define and some philosophers like Jean-Luc Nancy even invite us to accept the "unthinkable" nature of the drawing. The international conference we organize on June 15^th and 16^th of this year in the villa Finaly of Firenze (Italy) does not intend to adopt similar position. Without wishing necessarily to produce a definition of the drawing, we intend to progress towards its understanding.

The aim of this workshop is to explore, with a trans-disciplinary perspective, the various sonic issues project managers encounter when building or rehabilitating worship spaces in different cultural contexts. Building or rehabilitating such spaces should not only answer to requirements dictated by the building but should also take into account the practices, perceptions and expectations of the various actors and users of those spaces (religious officiants and practitioners, etc.).

La littérature sur les traités d’architecture à la renaissance est vaste et permet une lecture très approfondie de certains aspects épistémologiques, culturels et politiques de ce genre littéraire : la nouveauté d’une approche théorique par rapport aux écrits d’architecture médiévaux, la réception de Vitruve, la formation de leurs auteurs, leur public, leur influence dans la définition d’une image architecturale publique des princes. L’intérêt pour la culture technique est aussi croissant et depuis une dizaine d’années les études sur l’histoire de la construction se multiplient.

Rehabilitation and Re-use of Modern Movement Architecture

Seminar gathering in Lisbon international experts in architecture rehabilitation and urbanism of the Modern Movement. The seminar organized by Docomomo International will take place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, on the 27th of March. In the last decades, the architectural heritage of the Modern Movement appeared more at risk than during any other period. At the end of the 1980s, many modern masterpieces had already been demolished or had changed beyond recognition. This seminar about Rehabilitation and Re-use of the Modern Movement Architecture aims at bringing together inspiring viewpoints about this global problem.

Courts and Courtly Cultures in Early Modern Italy and Europe

The conference will focus on the topic of court culture in Lombardy and North Italy, within the conceptual framework of the SNF Sinergia project: Constructing identity: visual, spatial, and literary cultures in Lombardy, 14^th to 16^th centuries. This interdisciplinary project, which includes five research unities in the Universities of Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, and EPFL at Lausanne, works on Visconti and Sforza ages, when Lombardy, one of the most important European regions, established itself as a distinct political and cultural entity. It has been an exemplary case of the construction of a cultural identity, whose repercussions still resonate in present-day Italy. As a part of a potent political project, it has been sustained by complex mechanisms of self-representation and the imposition of a prestige taste. The conference will conclude the research of the Sinergia project discussing its results in a wider historical, literary, architectural and artistic context and verifying its methodological approaches at the light of multiple points of view.

Au cours de la « deuxième révolution industrielle » augmente considérablement l’activité dans le tertiaire et se développent les services administratifs dans le secteur industriel et public. L’employé devient ainsi la figure sociale de la modernité urbaine, qui témoigne aussi du rôle croissant de la femme dans ce secteur professionnel. Le colloque The office as an interior (1880-1960) aborde l’essor du travail administratif entre 1880 et 1960 à travers l’analyse de l’émergence d´un espace nouveau, le bureau, qui par ses arrangements contribue à la diffusion de nouvelles formes de sociabilité et réalise des nouveaux modes d’organisation du travail.

Quatrième congrès international d'histoire de la construction

Après Madrid (2003), Cambridge (2006), Cottbus (2009), Paris a été choisie pour accueillir le quatrième congrès international d'histoire de la construction. Trois écoles d'architecture (Paris-Malaquais, Paris-La Villette et Versailles) ainsi que le Conservatoire des arts et métiers pilotent cet évènement. L'histoire de la construction apparaît par définition hybride, associant aussi bien la conception que la réalisation, comme la préservation, la technique que la culture, et se trouve de fait interdisciplinaire. Y participent aussi bien des historiens de toutes disciplines (archéologues, juristes, économistes, historiens de l'art, etc.) que des praticiens (ingénieurs, architectes, entrepreneurs, artisans). Plus de 350 chercheurs, enseignants et praticiens, vont présenter le dernier état de leur recherche dans ce champ et en débattre sur quatre sites parisiens et versaillais. 6 conférences plénières seront délivrées par des personnalités reconnues par leurs pairs. Pratiques religieuses et christianisation de la cité dans l’Antiquité tardive

Le colloque a pour objectif de rassembler des historiens, archéologues, historiens des religions, autour du problème de la christianisation de la cité tardo-antique, et plus précisément autour des mutations des pratiques religieuses et de leurs conséquences sur la cité. On a vu dans l’interdiction des cultes païens au profit du christianisme le signe du passage d’une religion civique, extériorisation d’un rituel partagé de facto par tous les citoyens, à une religion communautaire, fondée sur l’adhésion confessionnelle de ses différents membres. Il s’agira dès lors de se demander dans quelle mesure l’abandon progressif des cultes païens, lesquels jouaient depuis toujours un rôle prépondérant dans la construction des identités civiques, au profit de nouvelles pratiques religieuses chrétiennes modifièrent les comportements sociaux, politiques, économiques et culturels.
