We are pleased to invite you to respond to a call for contributions to a book and conference on the theme of decoloniality and legal methodology in Europe—a subject on which Europeans must draw inspiration from the knowledge and experience of areas of the world that they have colonised, and jurists must learn from studies already carried out in the social sciences.

Decentring Europe: Doing History Otherwise, 1500-present
What does it mean to de-centre Europe in historical research? Can we write a global history, a colonial and imperial history that is not centred on European archives and European analytical categories? How might that change our histories of Europe, and the world? This 2026 edition of the EUI Department of History's summer school takes up a range of such questions as we grapple with why such a de-centring is imperative and what the stakes are for distinct kinds of scholarship.

Digital Humanities and Artificial Intelligence in African Studies
Towards Sustainable and Equitable Practices
The integration of digital humanities (DH) and artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the production of knowledge in African Studies, offering new opportunities for innovative analysis, dynamic visualisation and cross-cultural research. Yet this shift raises urgent questions regarding equitable access, the representation of African languages, and the suitability of methodologies. Current large language models underrepresent African languages, digital scholarly infrastructures remain optimised for English, and digitisation pipelines that produce AI-ready data are themselves shaped by political choices about what to digitise, how to describe it, and who controls access.

Thinking High and Low: Elites, Experts, and the Masses in the Early Reformation
The summer school highlights the dynamic interplay between “high” and “low” forms of thinking and between elite norm-setting and the appropriation, adaptation or contestation of those norms in real-life situations and historical events. By integrating inputs from theology, philosophy and history, along with intellectual, linguistic and social perspectives, the programme presents the transition from the late Middles Ages to the Reformation as a complex reordering of normative structures and cultural hierarchies. It invites the participants to reconsider the period through the lens of how ideas moved between, and were transformed across, different levels of thought, language and society.

A l’aune de ces questionnements, il est utile sinon vital, d’interroger l’approche critique des formes d’expression des arts visuels et des techniques qui les sous‑tendent. L’appel à communications invite les chercheurs, artistes, commissaires, collectionneurs, et autres professionnels des arts et du patrimoine à proposer des contributions portant sur les arts visuels (classiques et contemporains) en Afrique, envisagés comme des expressions d’un imaginaire social et comme des lieux d’élaboration d’une esthétique sociale.

Partially inherited from Enlightenment thought, the opposition of emotion to reason, body to mind, and natural sciences to social sciences has resulted in the marginalisation of the study of emotions and affects by devaluing them within the latter. The study of emotions requires a multidisciplinary approach. Our objective is to discuss emotions in a broad sense using diverse media. This call is therefore intended for a wide range of disciplines, regions, and time periods.

Rethinking Innocent IV and the Crusades: A Multidisciplinary Inquiry
“Rethinking Innocent IV and the Crusades” seeks to reassess the pontificate of Innocent IV (1243–1254) through a sustained examination of his engagement with the crusading movement. We are pleased to invite proposals for 20-minute papers exploring all aspects of the relationship between the pontificate of Innocent IV and the crusading movement. We particularly welcome contributions that adopt interdisciplinary approaches, including (but not limited to) history, legal history, theology, manuscript studies, political thought and institutional history. Particular attention will be moreover giving the proposals concerning the history of heresy and heretical communities during Innocent’s pontificate, the relationship with the Mendicant Orders, with the Mongol World, the promotion and the business of the cross in Italy.

These include not only the materials in the strict sense, such as canvas, wood, or nails, but also their composition as a whole, understood as a unified entity, essential to the artwork.

La mission du musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac est de mener un travail de recherche sur et autour des collections qu’il abrite, ainsi que sur le passé et le présent des mondes extra-européens et de leurs relations avec l’Europe. Dans cet esprit, le musée attribue tous les ans des contrats postdoctoraux, notamment dans les disciplines suivantes : anthropologie, archéologie, histoire, histoire des arts, sociologie, ethnomusicologie. Cette année, le musée du quai Branly -Jacques Chirac attribue deux contrats postdoctoraux pour une durée de deux ans (2026-2028).
