Imagined Identities and Communities in the Late Middle Ages
On December 9 and 10 of this year, the “Cultures i Societats de l'Edat Mitjana” (CiSEM) research group, led by Dr. Antoni Furió, professor of medieval history at the University of Valencia, will hold a conference with the title: Imagined Identities and Imagined Communities in the Late Middle Ages. Far from being strictly contemporary creations, nations, the most elaborated product of imagined communities, had their relevance throughout the medieval centuries. The most recent historiography has tried to establish the mechanisms that contributed to building this type of imaginary in which, according to some anthropologists, sociologists and political scientists, collective identities are taking an increasingly prominent role in international geopolitics. For this reason, this process is presented as a great opportunity to discuss the most recent historiographical contributions, and to try to shed more light on a transcendental historical phenomenon on the evolution of human societies.

La memoria conmemorativa en perspectiva comparada
En el marco del año de conmemoración del centenario de la primera guerra mundial en Europa y del Movimiento de 1968 en México, este coloquio internacional propone una reflexión multidisciplinar sobre las diferentes formas y lógicas de la construcción y de la institucionalización de la memoria a la escala nacional; la creación de “lugares de memoria” oficiales u oficiosos; los contornos de la fragmentación de la memoria conmemorativa, en particular en el caso de las minorías; así como los procesos y dispositivos memoriales establecidos por una sociedad civil que busca romper con las omisiones de la memoria conmemorativa institucional. Este evento será también una oportunidad para poner en perspectiva las experiencias conmemorativas francesas y mexicanas basadas en intervenciones científicas de investigadores especializados en otras áreas geográficas, con el objetivo de arrojar luz sobre las dimensiones globales en juego en la construcción de una narrativa memorial.

The International Week of Medieval Studies of Estella tackles for the first time Jewish communities in the Western Middle Ages. Studies on this issue has generated a large historiographical output relating to social, cultural, economic and political life across Europe. This edition puts the focus on the profiles, the light and shade, the countenances of these communities. Starting with the history of the Jewish culture, its physical and mental integration into the medieval worlds, its presence in the lifestyle of the period and the images that were produced and still remain in the collective cultural heritage. An exercise of history and memory on the narrative of the Sephardic exile will open the sessions consecrated to the forms of integration and of exclusion of these communities and their material and cultural manifestations.

L’alimentation occupe une place majeure dans les activités des communautés, qu’elles soient l’œuvre de professionnels ou qu’elles s’insèrent dans le cadre domestique. Cette importance se traduit par la multiplicité et la diversité des processus et des savoir-faire de production, de transformation et de commercialisation des aliments. Les variations spatiales ou temporelles, séparant la production de la consommation, conduisent à interroger les modalités de ravitaillement et de commercialisation des denrées, ainsi que la saisonnalité des produits.

Biografías y dinámicas políticas en la monarquía española (1665-1830)
Las reformas que reforzaron el papel del soberano como patrón y vértice de la estructura administrativa y que propiciaron su entrada en espacios de poder en los que hasta entonces no había estado presente, también provocaron una creciente personalización de los lazos políticos no incompatible con la pervivencia de las redes clientelares. Esto generó una creciente tensión que, en ocasiones, se manifestó bajo los rasgos de una opinión pública minoritaria, pero organizada, a la cual el propio Estado absoluto había proporcionado las armas, al favorecer los medios propicios para que estas surgieran, ya fuera apoyando las publicaciones de nuevo tipo o patrocinando foros de discusión. El presente coloquio tiene por objeto abordar esta problemática desde ópticas complementarias en las que confluyen temas y metodologías compartidas por la historia política, la historia social y la historia cultural, dando cabida a un amplio rango de fuentes.

The Institute of Ancient and Medieval History at the University of Buenos Aires, the organization of the IV International Congress of Historical Reflection "The cry of freedom. Voices and Silences of antiquity to today" commemorates the May Revolution that marked the path to independence in Argentina, Participate Argentine and European researchers will present issues related to the pursuit of freedom through the various cycles of history.
