  Gomes Freire de Andrade: the man and his time

  In 2017 we celebrate the bicentennial of three remarkable moments in the history of Portugal, Spain, Brazil and the Ibero-American world, the so-called “Revolution of 1817”, in Pernambuco; the “conspiracy” of General Gomes Freire de Andrade against the British tutelage, in Portugal; and the failed liberal pronouncement of General Luis Lacy y Gauthier, in Catalonia, in favor of the Constitution of 1812. In view of the historical and historiographic importance of these events, the Centre for History of the University of Lisbon (CH-ULisboa), in collaboration with the Directorate of History and Military Culture, is organizing an international conference that aims to contribute to debate the crisis of the Iberian empires in the early nineteenth century and the emergence of liberalism and the politicization of Ibero-American societies.

  A Restauração de Portugal (1640-1668): antigas tradições e novas perspectivas

  A Restauração, título dado à insurreição que pôs fim a sessenta anos de união dinástica entre o reino lusitano e a monarquia hispânica, é sem dúvida um dos principais eventos da história de Portugal. Não por acaso a escrita da história do movimento de dezembro de 1640 e dos vinte e oito anos de guerra que se lhe seguiram foi objeto de uma intensa instrumentalização política. De bode expiatório dos males do país a estandarte do orgulho nacional, o século XVII português foi durante muito tempo representado segundo as cores de ideologias que não procuravam no passado senão os elementos de justificação de suas doutrinas.

  Fronteiras e mobilidades na Península Ibérica, século XX

  Neste colóquio internacional procura-se reunir propostas que possam contribuir para a análise das estratégias e das práticas de  diferentes actores que operam nas fronteiras: os que favorecem as mobilidades transnacionais (como passadores ou transportadores); os que as vigiam (as  autoridades fronteiriças e policiais). Pretende-se articular o estudo das  fronteiras e das mobilidades com as principais problemáticas que marcaram a investigação em ciências sociais sobre o século XX ibérico.
