An ecological transition under strain: country, landscape, and uses in contemporary Germany
The starting point for this conference is the observation that the ecological transition in Germany, which one might have thought would be easier or at least more harmonious than in other countries due to the importance that environmental issues have had in German culture, society, and politics from very early on, is in fact encountering numerous obstacles and is even being called into question. This is evidenced, among other things, by the setbacks which the energy transition encounters and by the success of the party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) despite—or perhaps because of—its stance in favour of climate change denial.

The Resarch Training Group explores the politics of the Enlightenment from the 18th to the 21st century in two respects: On the one hand, it examines the political claims and interpretations that have been and are being developed in the name of the Enlightenment. On the other hand, it focuses on the political discussions and measures that shape the understanding of Enlightenment in a global context to this day.

Das Symposium stellt im Spiegel der jüngsten Forschungsergebnisse ein neues Bild von der Thematik und Funktion der Wandmalereien wie auch von der ursprünglichen Ausdehnung und Gestalt der Brandenburger Dombibliothek des späten Mittelalters vor und entwickelt von diesem Standpunkt aus ein erweitertes Spektrum von Fragestellungen in die europäischen Kulturräume des Mittelalters und der Renaissance hinein.

Jahrestagung der Willibald-Pirckheimer-Gesellschaft zur Erforschung von Renaissance und Humanismus
Die Tagung widmet sich Konzepten und Praktiken von „Memoria“ in Nürnberg und Europa zwischen ca. 1450 und 1550. Dabei soll die Frage im Zentrum stehen, welche Ausdrucksformen Humanisten wählten, um an sich selbst oder andere zu erinnern und zu gedenken. Woran orientierten sie sich hierfür? Welche Rolle spielte die Religion, welche die Bildung? Um das Thema zu fassen, können ganz unterschiedliche Medien wie beispielsweise biografische Schriften, Epikedien, Trauerreden, Briefe, Predigten, Grabskulpturen, Musik und Epitaphien in den Blick genommen werden.

While the close interconnection between the universe of things (expanding in a commodity-shaped way), the dream and its reflection in arts and media may be considered a founding trope of European modernity around 1900, the extension of our focus on pre-modern contexts and transcultural constellations in the present opens up new perspectives on connections between object cultures and dream cultures.

In the High and Late Middle Ages, the border region between the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire was a dynamic space not only in terms of territorial politics, but also in economic, religious, social and cultural terms, which always requires cross-border work in historical research. Despite this elementary precondition, there is currently a lack of cross-national and cross-language exchange, especially for young academics. In order to meet this need, we would like to invite MA graduates and young researchers to present their current research projects to a professional audience and to discuss them within the setting of a young researchers’ conference.

Humanismus, Jurisprudenz und Konfessionalisierung in Hessen, ca. 1500-1560
Die „Konfessionalisierung“ Hessens unter Landgraf Philipp I. (1504-1567) darf unter politik- und bildungsgeschichtlicher Perspektive als etabliertes Forschungsfeld gelten. Mehrere Sammelbände, die in den letzten Jahren erschienen sind, zeugen vom fortdauernden Interesse an der Thematik, insbesondere im Zusammenhang mit der Gründung der Universität Marburg im Jahr 1527. Die geplante Tagung nimmt etwa 500 Jahre nach dem Beginn der hessischen „Bildungsoffensive“ diese prägende Periode noch einmal in den Blick und möchte dabei inhaltlich und methodisch neue Akzente setzen.
