Dynamiques rituelles et corporalité dans les religiosités et spiritualités contemporaines
Enjeux méthodologiques et théoriques
S’inscrivant dans le cadre de la trente-sixième conférence de la Société internationale pour la sociologie des religions (12 juillet - 15 juillet 2021), ce panel entend explorer et discuter les questions méthodologiques et théoriques relatives à la recherche ethnographique sur les expériences sensorielles et corporelles dans la religion et la spiritualité contemporaine. Il invite les chercheur·euse·s à présenter des contributions incluant la sensorialité comme aspect central de leur recherche, ou comme outil méthodologique (complétant les méthodologies classiques) ; ou comme perspective théorique dans l’approche de paramètres sensoriels et d’(inter-)actions corporelles.

The DHNord colloquium brings together the digital humanities community every year at the Maison Européenne des Sciences de l'Homme et de la Société in Lille. The theme chosen for 2020 considers computational approaches to images in the history and theory of the arts. This conference will bring together for the first time in France the leading specialists in artificial intelligence applied to the arts.

Maritime Knowledge for Asian Seas
An interdisciplinary dialogue between maritime historians and archaeologists
This conference will close a four-years French-Taiwanese research project (ANR/MOST) on Maritime Knowledge for Asian seas (seaFaring), which propose to reconsider, and possibly to review, our knowledge on China’s seafaring tradition through a new approach focusing on the practical know-how available to the craftsmen, seamen and merchants during the 16th-18th centuries, with special emphasis on sailing and trading knowledge and practices.

The Visual History Archive, Research Experience
Founded by the film director Steven Spielberg in 1994, the Visual History Archive is a collection of testimonies recorded in order to preserve the words, faces, gestures and histories of genocide survivors. Digitized and indexed to the minute (with more than 62 000 keywords), the Visual History Archive is now reachable in full access in 66 universities and libraries in 14 countries. In France, it is fully accessible at the George and Irina Schaeffer Center for the Study of Genocide, Human Rights and Conflict Prevention of the American University of Paris and at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon. Now more than ever, scholars can search the Visual History Archive for research on the Second World War or on the other crimes of mass violence which have been more recently appended to the collection. The aim of this journée d’étude is to gather scholars from different disciplines who have carried out research on or with the Visual History Archive. Participants will have the opportunity to share their research results and experiences.

Archives, the Digital Turn and Governance in Africa
“History in Africa” Journal
This featured section of History in Africa will address the wave of digitisation of archives in Africa over the last fifteen years. With the rise of information technologies, an increasing part of public – and to some extent private - African archives are being digitised and made accessible on the internet. This wave of digitisation is usually seen as a progress with the help of ambitious initiatives applying new technologies to cultural heritage of humanity such as the rescue of the manuscripts of Timbuktu or the Endangered Archives programme at the British Library. Yet as much as these new technologies raise enthusiasm, they also prompt discussions amongst researchers and archivists, which go from intellectual property to sovereignty and governance.

Revealing Ordinary Jerusalem (1840–1940)
New archives and perspectives on urban citizenship and global entanglements
The Open Jerusalem project aims to unlock and connect different archives and sources in order to investigate the ordinary entangled history of a global city through the lens of the concept of urban citizenship (citadinité). The objective is to produce historical narratives focusing on the way residents interacted with each other, inhabited and appropriated space(s). The symposium intends to be a forum for deepening discussions and opening scientific debates, based on contributions by scholars specializing in related topics, urban historians and specialists of the region. Therefore all participants are kindly requested to stay in Rethymno for the whole duration of the symposium.

This conference seeks to discuss the Belgian record of engagement with international law and justice and to put this national experience in international perspective. It specifically questions the way in which the judiciary dealt with gross violations of international law in the wake of war and how legal actors responded to the challenges of an emergent and developing set of international laws, from 1870 to 2015.

Les circulations artistiques Sud-Sud
L'internationalisme décentré affiché par les biennales de la Havane, de Dakar ou de Gwangju, invite à ne plus se contenter d’une conception nord-atlantique de l'histoire de l'art, et à considérer sérieusement des villes et régions qui ont été marginalisées peut-être plus encore de nos sujets de recherche que des circulations artistiques effectives. L’historicisation et la mesure des circulations artistiques dans les marges sont aujourd’hui des tâches décisives pour démontrer, nuancer ou contester la “provincialisation” de l’Occident dans l’histoire récente de l’art. C’est l’objet de la prochaine conférence Artl@s, qui cherche à réunir des chercheurs de tous horizons géographiques et disciplinaires afin de réfléchir ensemble à l’hypothèse de circulations artistiques « Sud-Sud » depuis la décolonisation jusqu’à aujourd’hui.

Historiens, anthropologues et spécialistes de diverses disciplines sont invités à réfléchir ensemble sur les questions de production, transmission et preservation des documents administratifs et légaux de l’Afrique pré-coloniale. L’objectif de ce panel est d’initier un dialogue entre spécialistes travaillant sur les sources non narratives, que ce soit des actes de donation, des contrats, des chartes, des inscriptions funéraires ou tout autre document devenu « document d’archive ». L’historiographie continue de nous dispenser une image assez figée des « scribes » médiévaux, qu’il s’agisse des moines à l’œuvre dans le silence du scriptorium, des notaires toujours au four et au moulin, des clercs de chancellerie produisant des actes à la chaîne dans des ruches d’écriture officielle... Quelle part de réalité dans ces images d’Épinal ? Il s’agit de se demander qui écrit au Moyen Âge, plus spécifiquement dans le domaine foisonnant et méconnu du document normatif ou pratique destiné à faire archive. Quels sont les profils de ces scriptores – scribes, scripteurs, écrivants, « scribouillards » de toutes espèces – au service des grands princes ou des petits seigneurs, des officiers de justice ou des cours foncières, des grands ordres monastiques ou d’humbles collégiales, des autorités urbaines ou des communautés villageoises ? -

Cette année, la question des violences en contexte soviétique et post-soviétique sera au centre des discussions. L’école est destinée à des doctorants ou jeunes docteurs, qui présenteront leurs recherches et participeront aux discussions. Le programme est organisé dans une perspective interdisciplinaire autour de cours, discussions par sessions thématiques et visites de terrain à Zhytomyr (Ukraine). -

Les discours de la méthode en Angleterre, XVIe-XVIIe siècles : vers un ordre moderne ?
À la Renaissance, les controverses philosophiques et scientifiques, ainsi que les nombreuses traductions de Platon créent les conditions d’un débat autour de l’idée de méthode, Aristote ayant été l’autorité incontestée en la matière jusque-là. Dès les années 1530, l’interrogation sur la méthode devient centrale, dans le domaine de la rhétorique, puis de la dialectique. Le terme « méthode » est ainsi redéfini tout au long du XVIe siècle et continue à faire l’objet de nombreuses querelles au siècle suivant. Dans un contexte où les disciplines ne sont pas encore distinctes, on recherche une méthode universelle qui offre une interprétation globale et générale du monde, mais la méthode est aussi perçue comme un outil de vulgarisation scientifique. -
