Trans Identities in the French media
Abstracts are welcome for an edited volume that will address the question of the representations of trans identities in the French media. This volume aims more specifically at observing how trans identities have been portrayed in the past decades (from the 1990s’ to the present time). Possible topics include (but are not limited to)(a) the evolution of the representation of trans identities in news coverage, (b) transgender characters in films and series, (c) pitfalls and biases regarding the way trans identities are portrayed in the French media, and/or (d) the analysis of a specific body of work.

Territorial fractures, ruptures, discontinuities and borders: issues for planners
The French-British Study Planning Group / Groupe franco-britannique de recherche en aménagement et urbanisme, has worked for 20 years on the building of networks and intellectual bridges between the communities of planning research and practice on both sides of the Channel. Since 2005 it has been formally constituted as a sub-group of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP). The potential retreat of the current United Kingdom from the European Union presents a new context and it is natural that the group should turn its attention to the territorial impacts which could arise as a result. It is also an occasion to reflect more widely on all forms of territorial discontinuities, ruptures and borders, including those at the national, regional and local scales, and which are of concern to planning research and practice.

De Gruyter's
De Gruyter and the team of the Art Market Dictionary (AMD) are currently looking for authors interested in contributing to their encyclopedia project. The AMD is the first reference work providing encompassing information on commercial art galleries, dealers, auction houses, fairs and advisers in Europe, the USA and Canada in the 20th and 21st centuries. Due to appear in 2020, it will be published in print and as an online searchable database. It is edited by Johannes Nathan and supported by a number of specialized institutions such as the Getty Research Institute, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, or the Archives of American Art.

Telecollaboration in Higher Education in Language Classes
Teaching Practices, Linguistic Challenges and Cultural Horizons
If telecollaboration is practiced at all levels of education, we would like to give it a broader dimension, as part of our colloquium, and to address it at the university level for the essential reason that the nature of event organized within this university, aspires to bring together colleagues around the world, around this theme, little known or practiced at the level of Algerian universities, while it has been the subject of experiments since over thirty years in Europe, America, Asia, and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

16th annual symposium of the International Medieval Society – Paris
For its 16th annual symposium, the International Medieval Society Paris invites scholarly papers on any aspect of time in the Middle Ages. Papers may deal with the experience or exploitation of time, its reckoning or measuring, its inscription, its theorization, or the question of how or why or whether we should demarcate the “Middle Ages.” Papers focusing on historical or cultural material from medieval France or post-Roman Gaul, or on texts written in medieval French or Occitan, are particularly encouraged, but compelling papers on other material will also be considered.

First Saint-Omer international colloquium
The first Saint-Omer international colloquium is co-organized by the Centre de Recherche et d’Études Histoire et Sociétés (EA 4027 CREHS - Université d’Artois), and the Cultural Services of St Omer country’s Urban district (CAPSO). It is part of the pluri-disciplinary research programme The Renaissance in the Northern Provinces, coordinated since 2015 by Pr. Charles Giry-Deloison and Dr. Laurence Baudoux, and is in the continuity of the conferences already held at the University of Artois. The Saint-Omer colloquium aims to address all expressions of the Renaissance in the field of Humanities (philosophy, literature, arts), in the former Southern Netherlands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It will focus in particular on the exchanges, encounters and bonds between the main actors of this cultural revival.

Practices, Actors and Behaviour
In high medieval Europe, conflict took a number of different forms, from large-scale battles, such as disputes over crowns, power and lands, to more local disputes over inheritance and property. In the absence of well-developed administrative structures which could limit conflict, cultural conventions, rituals and behavioural norms evolved to moderate violence within the elite community.

Maritime Ivories in Western Europe, 900-1500
In the history of carved ivories, maritime mammals have often been eclipsed by the elephant, considered as a nobler ivory to which walrus or whale ivory would only be a poor man's substitute. But this historiographical view is not without its shortcomings, as not only did walrus hunting play a significant role in the first European explorations toward the west, but the trade for those ivories went as far as the Islamic world and even the Far East. This session at the 52nd International Congress on Medieval Studies, sponsored by the National Museum of Scotland, aims to address the variety of questions posed by the maritime ivories: how the raw material was collected, how it was traded, the workshops that carved them and their specific symbolic value in medieval treasuries

French Citizenship and Colonization in the 20th century (until 1946)
Les dimensions impériales de la citoyenneté française sont à la fois bien et mal connues. Des travaux récents ont rappelé que la césure entre citoyens et sujets s’est construite de façon progressive et par ajustements entre les enjeux de pouvoir à l’échelle locale et impériale, les logiques juridiques et les revendications portées par des acteurs mus par des intérêts différents, sinon contradictoires. La multiplication des recherches d’histoire sociale, politique et culturelle de la colonisation permet désormais d’écrire une histoire plurivoque des dimensions impériales de la citoyenneté française en se demandant comment tous ces acteurs formulent la question qui sert de titre au colloque « quels citoyens pour l’empire ? » et quelles réponses ils lui apportent, ou comment ils font en sorte d’empêcher qu’elle soit débattue.

The colloquium takes place on September 23th, 2016 in Paris and intends to gather junior researchers in particular in the field of legal sciences who deal with digital surveillance and cyber spying.

Fabrications: Designing for Silk in the Eighteenth Century
Joubert de la Hiberderie’s Le Dessinateur d’étoffes d’or, d’argent, et de soie (1765) was the first book to be published on textile design in Europe. In preparation for the publication of an English translation and critical edition of the text this one day conference calls for papers that will analyse, critique, contextualise, review or otherwise engage with the Le dessinateur in the light of its themes: production, design, technology, education, botany and art. Joubert’s manual argues for both a liberal and a technological education for the ideal designer. Such a person must, he argues, have detailed knowledge of the materials, technologies and traditions of patterned silk in order successfully to propose new designs; he or she must also have taste and an eye for beauty, which call, he says, for travel in order to see both the beauties of nature and those of art gathered in the gardens and galleries of Paris and the île de France.

Society for the Study of French History 29th Annual Conference
This is a call for papers for the 29th Annual Conference of the UK and Ireland Society for the Study of French History. This conference will take place at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK, on 28th-30th June 2015, and will be hosted by the university’s Centre for French History and Culture. The theme of the plenary sessions will be “Turning Points in French History”. This theme has been chosen because of the number of significant anniversaries that fall in 2015 (1415 Azincourt, 1515 accession of François Ier, 1615 closing of Estates General until 1789, 1715 death of Louis XIV and accession of Louis XV, 1815 end of the Napoleonic era, 1940 fall of France).

French History is seeking contributions, in French and English, for a special issue on "Animals in French History," edited by Christopher Pearson (Liverpool) and Peter Sahlins (UC Berkeley). Proposals for articles should bring together theory and original empirical research that draws on new ways of studying animals and animal-human relations in France since the Renaissance.

La guerre d’indépendance algérienne, en tant qu’événement fondateur majeur de l’après-seconde guerre mondiale, peut constituer, en termes de « générations », un espace-temps bien défini et homogène. Dès lors, il est légitime de mieux comprendre et d’interroger la nouveauté des paradigmes d’une génération de chercheurs inscrits dans un champ de recherche en construction. Peut-on déceler des ruptures ou des continuités dans les objets, les sujets, les méthodes, les approches macro et micro-historiques ? Quelle place les sources ont-elles dans ces travaux ? Existe-t-il des changements entre les travaux qui se veulent plus larges et exhaustifs et ceux qui se fondent sur des aspects plus localisés ? Quels sont les déplacements de paradigmes explicatifs que l’on peut observer ? Cette nouvelle génération évite-t-elle encore les présupposés idéologiques liés à une mémoire militante ? Au-delà des résultats et conclusions des travaux, le colloque devra aussi mettre en exergue les méthodes, les matériaux, les perspectives d’enquêtes engagés. Une attention particulière sera accordée aux propositions des doctorants et jeunes chercheurs. -

Le séminaire « Partager l'information environnementale » propose de dresser un premier bilan des questionnements et débats liés à la diffusion de données environnementales en accès libre, dans la perspective d'une analyse de l'impact social et territorial de ce processus d'importance croissante. Articulant études de cas de diffusion et réflexions méthodologiques sur la mesure des impacts sociaux et territoriaux, ce séminaire porte prioritairement sur l'Amérique latine, mais est ouvert à des contributions d'autres continents. Il se tiendra à Porto Alegre du 23 au 24 août 2012 (Brésil). -
The 1898 Law on Workplace Accidents and the Pricing of Bodies in Europe
Le programme de recherche « Histoire des risques et des accidents industriels, France, Grande-Bretagne, fin XVIIe – fin XIXe siècle » propose de réfléchir à la loi de 1898 sur les accidents du travail, en l'intégrant dans une perspective comparative et de long terme. Cette journée d'étude a pour but de nourrir les réflexions actuelles sur les douleurs de l'industrie, tant au sein des espaces de travail que dans l'environnement extérieur aux lieux de fabrication.
