Conflicts of use in the Alpine region since 1970
The conference will focus on conflicts of use in the Alps since 1970, which, according to the initial thesis, have developed against the background of and in close interaction with an ecologization, Europeanisation and regionalization of the Alpine arc. Contributions are requested in the following areas: Tourism, Traffic, Energy, Nature conservation, Agriculture and forestry, Culture.

Criticisms of democracy, authoritarianism and populism in Europe
Continuities and disruptions from the inter-war period until today
Facing the feeling of »crisis« of democracy arising in recent years and symbolized by the rise of populist movements, there is a recurrent comparison with the inter-war situation in today’s political debate in many European countries. Is this comparison relevant to understand the specific democratic practices during both periods? Building on this question, the workshop serves as kick-off for the research program Which democracy/democracies? Reflections on the crisis, modernization and limits of democracy in Germany, France, England and Central Europe between 1919 and 1939 supported by the Centre interdisciplinaire d’études et de recherches sur l’Allemagne (CIERA).

Die Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie und ihr Verhältnis zur eigenen Geschichte und zu den Geschichtswissenschaften
„Die beste Art, eine Wissenschaft mitzuteilen, sei Erzählung ihrer Geschichte“. Diese kluge Empfehlung von Heinrich Du Bois-Reymond, Gründungsmitglied der Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte, im Jahre 1872 entspricht allerdings nicht mehr der Praxis des wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Arbeitens.

The question of repentance now applies to the public sphere and concerns huge collective bodies as well as individuals. It has a complex relationship with history. Repentance has even become a global issue and now concerns a wide range of geographical and cultural areas as well taking on many forms referring to facts whose scale, temporal distance or context are in no way comparable with it. Indeed, the roots of repentance are to be found in many traditions (religious, cultural, national and community) and nowadays, announcements (through the media at large) give rise to secular forms of repentance which are devoid of the dimensions that traditionally form the definition of repentance.

Personal Influence on the Rulers of Imperial Rome and the Early Middle Ages
Since rulers of the Imperial Roman Period and the Early Middle Ages occupied the highest (secular) position, individuals who exerted influence on them enjoyed a great extent of power. As a consequence, there was bitter rivalry between the various agents, which is reflected in discourses on legitimate and illegitimate influence. The goal of the conference is to establish interpersonal influence as a subject of historical research. Furthermore the study of influence on rulers is to make a contribution towards political history as well as the history of mentalities and discourse.

Forms and possibilities of communication in the Middle Ages
Une définition appropriée à ce que l’on entend par « La communication au Moyen Âge » n’existe pas. Derrière le concept général de « communication » se cache une multitude de significations et d’expressions différentes. La théorie et la pratique ont la particularité de se présenter sous de multiples formes : c’est pourquoi les définitions simplifiées s’éliminent d’elles-mêmes. Pourtant, au cours de ces dernières décennies, la recherche médiévistique sur la communication a traité d’un grand nombre d’aspects, permettant des nouvelles approches avec ce problème complexe. Au cours de l’Université d’été, ces différents points d’interprétation et d’explication devront être discutés.

Zwar hatte Polen in der zweiten Jahreshälfte 2011 erstmals dieRatspräsidentschaft der EU inne. Doch die relevanten Weichenstellungen europäischerPolitik nahm das Duo Merkel-Sarkozy vor. Die Disbalance im Weimarer Dreieckreflektiert die drohende innere Spaltung Europas entlang ökonomischer Potenz undpolitischem Gewicht. -

Cet atelier a pour but d’inscrire l’histoire scolaire des deux Allemagnes après 1945 dans un contexte transnational. Au-delà d’une analyse des politiques de ré-éducation des occupants alliés, déjà bien étudiées, nous proposons d’articuler le questionnement autour de trois axes de recherche nous paraissant novateurs. -

Hier und dort: Ressourcen und Verwundbarkeiten in der multilokalen Lebenswelt
Here and there: resources and vulnerabilities of multi-local life
Phénomène ancien et pluriel (bergers transhumants, ouvriers saisonniers, noblesse, etc.) l’éclatement des lieux de vie et les modes d'habiter multilocal gagnent aujourd’hui en importance dans nos sociétés (migrants transnationaux, navetteurs professionnels, enfants en garde alternés, etc.). L’habiter multilocal ménage des potentialités d’action et de résilience face à des changements localisés (politiques, sociaux, familiaux, etc.) en mobilisant savoir et pouvoir être mobile, savoir se faire d’ici et de là-bas, avoir accès à des ressources en infrastructures et services, maîtriser les techniques. Mais la multilocalité rend aussi vulnérable (désintégration familiale et local, dépendance aux moyens techniques, dépendance aux aléas des marchés de l’emploi, épuisement psychique et physique, etc.). L’objet de cet atelier avant tout de sociologues et d'historiens est de mettre en lumière ce champ de recherche. -

Grenzen und Aussöhnung. Deutschland und seine Nachbarn seit 1945
L’atelier, qui s’insère dans un programme de formation-recherche « Traces de guerre, mémoire et réconciliation. L’Allemagne et l’Europe depuis 1945 », s’adresse particulièrement aux jeunes chercheurs. Son objectif est d’analyser quels rôles ont joué et jouent encore les frontières et aussi les espaces frontaliers dans le processus de réconciliation. En partant de l’exemple franco-allemand, tous les espaces frontaliers de l’Allemagne avec ses voisins seront pris en considération depuis 1945.
