Mississippi Delta Communities Facing Disappearing Land

"Still on the Map!" takes as its context the Mississippi Delta fifteen years after Hurricane Katrina and about five years after the commissioning of the major new "100-year" flood protection infrastructure. Expressed from its title -a statement of resistance/resilience chanted by many inhabitants during ecological events in Louisiana- this research project aims to describe the links and "attachments" (LATOUR, 2017) that different communities in the delta maintain with their geographical environment in a situation of strong ecological tipping point, integrating the natural and artificial infrastructures of the watershed into the definition of ecosystems as socio-political actors in their own right. In a context where the delta's land is gradually sinking into the sea, every hour the surface area of a football pitch is permanently flooded.

International PhD Contract 2020-2023

Full-time, 36-month-long international PhD contract at Sorbonne University (PhD program IV) within the research centre Eur'ORBEM and in partnership with the French Research Centre in Social Sciences (CEFRES) in Prague, from 1 October 2020, under the supervision of Clara Royer. The PhD thesis may be written in French or in English. PhD propositions should focus on the discourses and practices surrounding the orphan condition in literature and/or visual arts (cinema, photography, graphic arts and so forth) in the wake of the violence and demographic upheavals that characterized 20^th century East-Central Europe. Because of its interdisciplinary scope, applicants with a background in social history, literary studies and/or visual arts specialized in one or several countries of East-Central Europe may apply.

Depuis plusieurs années, le laboratoire LLA-CREATIS mène une réflexion autour de la notion d’intermédialité. En s’intéressant non seulement aux médias mais aussi aux rapports qu’ils entretiennent, l’intermédialité pourra être un outil intéressant pour décrire, analyser et comprendre l’ensemble des éléments qui composent le continuum de formation et aider à définir le congrès comme un « macro-dispositif de formation ». La réflexion menée autour du congrès pourra permettre de mieux comprendre comment la diffusion d’un même contenu – en l’occurrence pédagogique – peut être pensée, aujourd’hui, à partir de différents médias, en fonction de leur spécificité. Les notions connexes de co-présence, de migration, de reméditation, de transmédia, etc. seront autant d’outils théoriques qui pourront être mobilisés à cette fin.

Le projet EcoLitt (Ecologie et Littérature) porté et dirigé par Anne-Rachel Hermetet à l’université d’Angers (professeur de littérature comparée, CERIEC) se structure en trois axes de recherche et envisage d’analyser les modalités d’intervention des thèmes écologiques dans la fiction littéraire, en France, et plus largement, en Europe. L’université du Maine recherche un postdoctorant de 9 mois pour travailler dans l’axe 3 du projet, dirigé par Nathalie Prince (professeur de littérature comparée, 3L.AM) : « Écologie et littérature de jeunesse ».

Ce poste à temps plein a pour objectif de mener à bien une thèse de doctorat qui s’inscrira dans le cadre du projet de recherche « La Fabrique du patrimoine littéraire. Les collections d’essais biographiques illustrés en France (1944-2014) », financé par le FWO (Fonds de la recherche scientifique, Flandre : http://www.fwo.be/). Le / la candidat(e) aura à réaliser une thèse de doctorat portant sur les « Albums de la Pléiade » (Gallimard). La recherche visera à étudier les spécificités des « Albums de la Pléiade » dans le système des collections de ce type en en faisant l’histoire et en proposant une analyse de la façon particulière dont ces biographies illustrées sont conçues, sur les plans générique et iconographique en particulier.
