  Cadmo. Journal For Ancient History – Varia

  Cadmo – Journal for Ancient History publishes original and peer-reviewed studies and findings, as well as relevant “state of the art” review essays, on Ancient History and the study of Ancient cultures. It aims to promote debate and discussion on a wide variety of subjects and welcomes contributions related to the Ancient Near-Eastern World (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Syro-Palestine area and Anatolia) and to the Classical World (Greece, Rome and the Ancient Mediterranean, including Late Antiquity).

  Meet the New Gods, Same as the Old Gods? Formulary, Ritual and Status in Hellenistic Ruler Cult

  Panel to be held at the Eighth Celtic Conference in Classics

  Despite recent and widespread interest in Greek hero and ruler cult, evaluating the processes that lead to the bestowal of cultic honours on Hellenistic sovereigns still remains a controversial matter. Political readings of such honours within the framework of contemporary international diplomacy and euergetic discourse have picked up on polarities widely discussed by previous bibliography, such as "dynastic vs. civic", "living vs. posthumous", etc. Yet the main focus is still limited to a "top-down" perspective, which leaves aside the fascinating dialectics between "private" and "public", or to perhaps phrase this more accurately, between "institutional" and "non-institutional" actors.

  Codicologie et histoire du livre manuscrit en écriture arabe

  Call for paper

  Au cours des siècles, le monde musulman a été le témoin d’une intense activité de composition de textes, accompagnée par une production non moins intense de copies de ces mêmes textes. La multiplication au cours des vingt dernières années d’études et de publications sur la codicologie des manuscrits en écriture arabe a permis de mieux en connaître la constitution et les particularités. Beaucoup reste encore à accomplir, mais le corpus de données codicologiques réuni à ce jour permet désormais de porter un regard plus étendu sur le domaine et de commencer à envisager la question de l’histoire du livre dans le monde musulman. Sur ce dernier point, et bien que la question du nombre total des manuscrits arabes reste pour le moment sans réponse précise, une approche quantitative de ces derniers paraît actuellement la plus à même de déboucher sur des résultats significatifs.
