  Transmission of knowledge on fish and aquatic animals, texts and images

  Antiquity, Middle Ages, 16th century

  The conference Transmission of knowledge on fish and aquatic animals, texts and images (Antiquity, Middle Ages, 16th century) will be the closing event of GDRI Zoomathia, which ends at the end of 2021. The Zoomathia 2021 conference in Caen, organized by the ICHTYA program of Craham, is an extension of the 2017 conference.This conference wishes to emphasize, without being limited to ichthyofauna, on the scientific contribution of ancient sources on aquafauna in the broad sense and the biological and ecological knowledge of the species that compose it; the transmission and diachronic evolution of scholarly data on this fauna through the various knowledge media (texts, iconography - mosaics, illuminated manuscripts, early printed books and engravings, etc.); the mode of representation and identification of  marine animals species permitted by old documents and related methodological issues.

  Material histories of time: objects and practices, 14th-18th centuries

  L'historiographie de la mesure du temps se caractérise traditionnellement par une dichotomie entre des recherches consacrées à l'évolution des dispositifs techniques et d'autres qui concernent les cultures et les usages du temps. Une des conséquences majeures de cette dichotomie est la rareté d'études prenant en compte l'influence de facteurs sociaux et culturels sur la configuration des dispositifs techniques, ou interrogeant à l'inverse les cultures et les pratiques de la mesure du temps à partir de l'analyse des objets mécaniques. Ce colloque entend contribuer à réunir ces deux approches pour explorer les histoires matérielles du temps entre le XIV^e et le XVIII^e siècle à travers la relation entre objets et pratiques.

  Aquatic Animals and Monsters of the Northern Seas Imagination, knowledge, exploitation, from Antiquity to 1600

  The Colloquium is devoted to the history of fish, aquatic monsters and mammals in the northern seas (the English Channel, North Sea, Baltic Sea, Norwegian Sea, the North Atlantic), from antiquity to 1600. The colloquium is based on three themes: knowledge and the transmission of knowledge (medical knowledge, zoological knowledge, descriptions, identifications); savoir-faire and exploitation (aquatic farming, fishing, cooking, medicine); explorations – real and imaginary.

  Forms of writing and its functions in the printed image in Europe in the 16th century

   Et si l’estampe était aussi une affaire de mots, de compositions écrites, de lectures croisées dans l’espace écrit et figuré d’une image ? Avant que le rapport à l’écrit dans la création artistique ne soit entièrement repensé par les avant-gardes, l’estampe aura été pendant longtemps le seul art de l’image où les mots pouvaient être librement associés aux figures et où les parties de texte, insérées dans la composition, pouvaient former une unité visuelle, logique et sémantique avec le dessin. L’objectif du colloque est d’étudier la place de l’écrit, ses formes et ses fonctions dans l’estampe au XVI^e siècle, de la production des images à leur utilisation dans des contextes socio-culturels qui pourront être extrêmement variés.
