Le genre face à la crise de la Covid-19
Le virus de la covid-19 a semé le trouble dans les habitudes de chacun·e. Sur le plan privé, la crise de la covid-19 et les restrictions qu’elle a engendrées ont contribué à recentrer les relations physiques quotidiennes sur la famille nucléaire (couple et ses enfants), tandis que les relations avec les proches ont pu être soit distendues, soit dématérialisées. De nouveaux gestes « barrières » se sont imposés, modifiant les relations humaines habituelles. Quels sont les effets de ces conditions de vie inédites sur les rapports de genre ? En quoi la crise de la covid-19 a-t-elle modifié (ou non) les rapports de genre entre les hommes et les femmes ?

Religion and gender in Latin America
Theoretical and methodological perspectives for research
This dossier invites researchers to submit papers discussing the theoretical and methodological challenges and limits facing new research questions in order to address the interfaces between religion and gender in Latin American countries in light of changes in the social and religious field in recent decades. We welcome works produced from different areas of knowledge in the social and human sciences, as well as areas and studies at the intersection of these issues. We set out to encourage reflection on the ethical challenges faced by researchers regarding the new theoretical and methodological models used in our region and beyond.

Femicide in France in the 19th century: social-history, key issues and representations
Ce colloque visera à étudier l’évolution du féminicide, de ses représentations et de leurs variations, sur la période du long XIXe siècle (1789-1914), de la Révolution française, où se met en place un nouveau système juridique, à la veille de la Grande Guerre, laquelle reconfigure les relations genrées et fait émerger un nouveau rapport à la violence. Il paraît aujourd'hui essentiel d'interroger les constructions du XIXe siècle pour saisir l'ancrage historique des mécanismes à l'œuvre dans notre rapport aux féminicides. Qu'est ce qui au XIXe siècle empêche la conceptualisation du féminicide comme crime spécifique ? Pourquoi avons-nous encore tant de réticences à catégoriser les meurtres de femmes au motif du sexe et du genre ? Puisque chaque pays a ses spécificités juridiques et culturelles, nous limiterons notre étude à la France.

Gender and semiotic categories in post-colonial Africa
L'appel à contribution du numéro 7 de la revue ABA (lettres et sciences sociales) porte sur la question du genre en Afrique contemporaine. Il ne s'agit plus seulement de réduire la problématique du genre à la catégorisation sexuelle et à ses enjeux culturels. Ce numéro thématique voudrait explorer toutes les formes de catégorisation des productions sémiologiques et sociales en Afrique contemporaine. Il prétend observer les transformations, les transgressions ou les réinventions venues d'Afrique des systèmes d'organisation modernes des productions littéraires, artistiques, musicales; des systèmes d'organisation sociale en genres sexuels. Le genre est-il une catégorisation coloniale et eurocentrée des objets sociaux ? Quelles appropriations africaines des genres au contact du monde moderne ?

Trans Identities in the French media
Abstracts are welcome for an edited volume that will address the question of the representations of trans identities in the French media. This volume aims more specifically at observing how trans identities have been portrayed in the past decades (from the 1990s’ to the present time). Possible topics include (but are not limited to)(a) the evolution of the representation of trans identities in news coverage, (b) transgender characters in films and series, (c) pitfalls and biases regarding the way trans identities are portrayed in the French media, and/or (d) the analysis of a specific body of work.

Intersectional Challenges in Afroeuropean Communities
8th Biennial Afroeuropeans Network Conference
The conference aims to consider how Afroeuropean communities are shaped by the intersections of ‘race’ and ethnicity with other markers of identification such as gender, class, sexuality, ability, age, citizenship status, language… Informed by intersectional thinking and its rejection of unidimensional perspectives in activism, policy and research, the conference explores how diverse processes of privileging and discrimination interact, making for complex and dynamic experiences of what it means to be Afroeuropean. It acknowledges that the racial and ethnic alterity of Afroeuropeans intersects with other identities (e.g. male, female, queer, working class, religious, disabled, aged…) and specifically seeks to examine to what extent these intersections create new alignments and opportunities.

Reclaim: Narratives of African Women Artists
This symposium is part of a wider collaboration with the Africa 2020 Season, a pan-African and multidisciplinary project taking place in France from December 2020 to mid-July 2021. Africa 2020 is an invitation, by N’Goné Fall, General Commissioner of the Season, to look at and understand the world from an African perspective. In this context, the AWARE association: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions whose goal is to improve the exposure of 20th century women artists, sought the expertise of scholars, artists and curators from Africa and around the world to raise the issue of the visibility of women artists in Africa.

Ten years after Argentina's emblematic "same-sex marriage" law, this issue of Cahiers des Amériques Latines examines the notion of a "rights revolution" [Encarnación, 2016] and takes stock of the situation of sexual and gender minorities in the region. Three lines of research seem essential to propose a critical reflection on the reality of sexual and gender minorities and to evaluate the LGBTQI+ "rights revolution" in Latin America.

Body and soul. The life and death of women in the Early Middle Ages
History and archaeology
Inspiré à la fois par la richesse des terres du Grand-Est sur les traces d'un monachisme féminin original et le profond renouvellement de l'historiographie et de l'archéologie concernant les femmes au haut Moyen Âge durant les dernières années, ce colloque voudrait faire le portrait de la variété des femmes comme personnes et comme membres de communautés, et préciser les caractéristiques de la féminité en Occident avant le XIIe siècle. En utilisant toutes les sources documentaires, il s'intéressera à la condition des femmes les mieux documentées mais également, dans une démarche d'anthropologie historique, à celles des couches les moins aisées de la société. L'archéologie funéraire avec toutes ses disciplines connexes, contribuera à nourrir le dialogue sur l'anthropologie du féminin durant le premier Moyen Âge.

L’objet de ce colloque vise essentiellement à connaître les savoirs, les itinéraires et les protocoles dont la finalité est l’interruption volontaire de grossesse (IVG). Cela, pour prendre en compte leurs conséquences médicales, sociales, psychologiques, économiques, politiques, juridiques et culturelles, etc. Sachant que l’interruption volontaire de grossesse ou avortement donne lieu à de nombreuses controverses quant à l’adoption de textes législatifs et/ou d’arrêts de justice, il est demandé aux participants de réfléchir sur l’impact de cette pratique et des décisions publiques prises dans les cadres législatifs, politiques et culturelles, traditionnels et modernes afin d’organiser ou d’interdire l’IVG. Il s’agira donc de se prononcer sur l’identité de cette pratique au Gabon, au Cameroun et en Guinée-Equatoriale, aux fins d’en extraire les spécificités, les caractéristiques et les conséquences fondamentales dont les États pourraient se servir dans le cadre de leur organisation.

The aim of this thematic issue is to pay tribute to Camille Lacoste-Dujardin (1921-2016), an eminent figure of French ethnology who dedicated her fifty-eight years scientific career to the study of the complexities of the Kabyle society and, beyond, to those of any human society. Indeed, even though her ethnological researches seem to have been “restricted to a people of mountain dwellers, its language and culture”, actually “they have never been limited neither in space, nor in time”, and “not even strictly confined to some single object of observation”; they have rather always involved “references to larger [sociocultural] wholes”.

Artistic Activism in India (History, Practice, Paradigm and Circulation)
“Artivism” encompasses artistic actions, which tackle social and political issues, reviving agitational practises defined in resistance to the planetary ideological hegemony they refer to as neoliberalism. This resurgent awareness of the political nature of artistic creation questions consensual discourses on the neutrality of art and aesthetics, often confined in their "autonomy" and impervious to the disorders of the world. Within artistic activism a dialectic between two entities, traditionally perceived as being of a different nature, is played out: on the one hand the field of art (too often defined as autonomous, with no other functionality than its own) and on the other hand in the field of politics and social activities on the other hand (thought out as a praxis of the exercise of the power in an organized society). The central question posed by artistic activism could be stated in this way: How can we evaluate the capacity of art (visual arts, performing arts, literature, theatre, dance, video art, cinema, etc.) to function as social and political protest?

The experiences and politics of HIV/AIDS in the Maghreb
Alors que les recherches en sciences sociales se sont multipliées sur le VIH/sida en Afrique sub-saharienne, elles sont restées peu développées concernant le Maghreb. Pourtant, l’imbrication des facteurs culturels, sociaux, économiques et politiques influe sur les systèmes de santé, les représentations de la maladie et les imaginaires qui l’entourent, le rapport à l’autre et la spécificité de la relation thérapeutique. Ces différentes articulations méritent analyse, dans la mesure où elles témoignent de la complexité de la réalité de l’épidémie en fonction des ancrages locaux. Ce dossier de L'Année du Maghreb entend croiser différentes perspectives et différents champs disciplinaires pour une meilleure compréhension des dynamiques de l’épidémie au Maghreb. Il vise, par ailleurs, à questionner le rapport à l’altérité et à la justice sociale à travers l’intérêt pour l’infection à VIH.

Narrative forms and co-production in Arab cinemas
Norms, constraints, and margins of freedom
Film industry in the Arab world remains generally underdeveloped. Arab countries still depend on international film support funds, mainly European. This puts Arab producers, scriptwriters and filmmakers in a subaltern position in relation to European producers and funders, whose expectations in terms of content as well as narrative and aesthetic forms end up strongly impacting the film creation process. On the other hand, margins of freedom and resistance can be created within this system. This edition of Regards aims at addressing the complex relation between Arab cinemas and international film support funds.

The Research Network on Christian Churches, Culture and Society (www.ccsce.eu) fosters historical research on the interaction of religion, culture, and society in Europe from the second half of the eighteenth-century until the present. CCSCE aspires to a renewed approach to religious history, implementing a broad and transnational European perspective. It aims to develop a durable and multidisciplinary research community on the subject, involving both senior and promising young scholars. On 6 and 7 July 2020 CCSCE, in cooperation with KADOC-KU Leuven, is organising an international conference on Religion, social commitment, and female agency. Encounters with subalternity and resilience.
