Southern Nights - interdisciplinarity and Night Studies
Première approche interdisciplinaire des nuits du Monde
The night, a long-forgotten dimension of the city, is now at the heart of urban issues in research, city-making and in the development, management, tourism development and governance of cities. Socio-economic studies, strategic approaches and public policies directed at the night are gradually emerging in many countries and on different continents. In research, a new interdisciplinary field is gradually being structured around "night studies" or "night research". The aim of this colloquium is to bring together researchers from different disciplines (geography, planning, art, history, sociology, urban studies, etc.), and artists, and speakers from different countries to discuss approaches for using, creating, inhabiting, living and protecting the nights of the Global South. These reflections and exchanges will enrich the emerging field of Nights Studies.

Municipalisation and urban management in Mozambique
Le Mozambique est encore très largement géré par l'administration de l'État central: il n'y a que 58 municipalités, toutes urbaines. La questionne est donc très politique, puisque toute avancée de la municipalisation permet à l'opposition d'acquérir plus de poids, même si le parti au pouvoir garde le contrôle sur la majorité d'entre elles. Ce colloque international aura lieu une dizaine de jours après la tenue des élections municipales d'octobre 2018, qui seront un test grandeur nature pour les élections présidentielles et législatives de l'année suivante...

Population, production and food in Sub-Saharan Africa
The special issue from the journal Space, populations, societies « Population, production and food in Sub-Saharan Africa » aims to contribute to a better understanding of relationships between agriculture, demography and fulfillment of the nutritional needs in Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim is to highlight these relationships at different spatial scales and temporalities, focusing on comparative approaches between city and countryside, quantitative approaches mobilizing small-scale historical data, and original methods of data crossing.

What kind of development for “the post-crisis city”?
Des grandes villes dans le monde ont connu des épisodes traumatiques de fortesampleurs, marquant durablement ces espaces et leurs populations. Ces événements, parfois sources de transformations majeures des zones touchées, peuvent également révéler ou se faire le relais de mécanismes de crise plus profonds. À travers quatre axes de discussion (morphologie et composition des nouveaux tissus urbains, fabrication de marges sociospatiales, moteurs et pratiques du développement économique, citadinité et pratiques urabines), le colloque propose d'aborder les conséquences de ces périodes traumatiques sur les dynamiques urbaines, en interrogeant le rôle de la crise et son importance entant que facteur de causalité des évolutions récentes qui marquent ces villes.

The Conference will bring together researchers and planners from academia, public and private sectors, and non-governmental organizations, in an effort to present and debate their research on African Urban Planning and to share knowledge, viewpoints, methods, research outcomes and policy ideas.

This conference proposes to present the latest developments in the research on South African cities, but also to offer an opportunity for academics from various fields (literature, social sciences, architecture, geography, visual arts, etc.) to compare their respective analysis and their theoretical conclusions with the imaginative, artistic representations of the cities of South Africa. The convenors therefore not only invite researchers from all fields to come and present their latest work on South African cities, but also strongly encourage papers which offer a cross-disciplinary approach, or joint presentations between researchers from various fields or academics and artists (writers, directors, photographs). Some major actors of the literary and art scene will be present to expose their views and discuss their works with researchers as well as with a wider, more general audience.This conference is part of the Official Season of South Africa in France.

International emigration in Cameroon
From new stakes to new figures
En Afrique Centrale, le Cameroun est aujourd’hui l’un des pays nettement affectés par l’émigration internationale. Elle touche particulièrement certains corps parmi les personnes hautement qualifiées. Cette émigration se caractérise à la fois par la diversification des profils des candidats, mais aussi par une extrême diversification des destinations. On peut même penser à la découverte de nouveaux territoires migratoires. -
Par son site, sa position géographique, son cosmopolitisme, l’histoire de la ville de Douala dans le Cameroun est singulière. De son histoire multiforme, Douala a hérité un patrimoine riche et varié, à la fois matériel et immatériel qui fait d’elle une exception plurielle au Cameroun et en Afrique. Seulement ce patrimoine est aujourd’hui en pleine décrépitude. L’on se demande même s’il n’y a pas une crise de la mémoire à Douala ? Nous avons pour ambition d’écrire l’histoire de la ville de Douala à travers son patrimoine historique, ses lieux de mémoire, ses sites historiques afin de contribuer à réconcilier cette ville avec son passé.

Il s’agit d’une thématique transversale, ouverte à l’ensemble des sciences humaines et sociales.
