Ce colloque international se fixe comme objectif de faire revivre ces hauts-lieux d’une culture populaire dans les sociétés européennes, méditerranéennes et nord-américaines, pour une période qui s’étend du milieu du XVIII^e siècle jusqu’aux débuts du XX^e siècle. De nombreuses questions se posent dans ce contexte, en commençant par la nature des établissements eux-mêmes et leur inscription dans la ville ou le village : que savons-nous de la topographie des cafés, tavernes, etc. (leur densité, leur rapport à l’espace religieux, sportif à la fin du XIX^e siècle…), de leur architecture et de leur décoration, et de la figure du tavernier et cafetier elle-même, susceptible de revêtir un rôle important au niveau social et politique, mais aussi économique en tant qu’entrepreneur de divertissements ?

Cet appel à contribution a pour objet de décrire, d’analyser les parcours et trajectoires migratoires depuis leur pays de départ jusqu’aux différents pays d’accueil.

The inverted pyramid paradigm? Genesis, institutions, strategies and reception

Politique Américaine, a political science journal published in French on US domestic politics and international strategies launches a call for papers for its special issue on: "American Public Diplomacy in the Middle-East: the inverted pyramid paradigm? Genesis, Institutions, Strategies and Receptions". Next to its impact on governments, public diplomacy is seen as a diplomatic practice aiming at directly or indirectly influencing civil societies. It encompasses all "seductive" strategies that a State implements towards the public opinions of another state or region. The growing importance of this idea highlights the necessity for the main players of international relations to maintain a multi-level dialogue with foreign civil societies in order to anticipate political and social developments initiated by other players than the State itself.

The paradigm of the inverted pyramid? Genesis, institutions, strategies and reception

Politique Américaine, la revue de référence en langue française consacrée à la vie politique interne et aux stratégies internationales des États-Unis, lance un appel à contribution pour son nouveau numéro thématique : « La diplomatie publique américaine au Moyen-Orient : le paradigme de la pyramide inversée ? Genèse, institutions, stratégies et réception ». La diplomatie publique est envisagée comme toute pratique diplomatique visant à agir directement ou indirectement sur les sociétés civiles et non plus sur les seuls gouvernements. Autrement dit, il s’agit de l’ensemble des efforts de « séduction » qu’un État déploie vis-à-vis des opinions publiques d’un autre État ou d’une région. L’importance récente prise par ce concept, souligne la nécessité pour les principaux acteurs de la vie internationale d’entretenir un dialogue à plusieurs niveaux avec les sociétés civiles étrangères afin d’anticiper les évolutions politiques et sociales initiées par d’autres acteurs que les États.

Perhaps for reasons related to intellectual elitism or simply because of the lack of an effective means of analysis, African popular arts (Modern African music in particular) keep on being pushed to the margins of academic discourse on postcolonial cultural identities. To this day and more than not, in classroom discussions on African culture(s), a place of pride is ascribed to literature (at films at times) despite the high rate of illiteracy and difficulty distributing them, which makes these products utterly inaccessible to the masses. That African writers like Ngugi (Kenya) and Boubacar Boris Diop (Senegal) decide to take their leave from colonial languages on behalf on “penning” their stories in African languages is sometimes hailed as an exceptional way towards cultural affirmation and identity recalibration. In terms of their production and consumption, however, popular musical forms have an absolute impact on African populations. These forms are transfigurations of the people’s daily life experience in that they bring together and crystallize the identities of the musical forms in question more than any other artistic expression.
