Travailler les âges en professionnel·le : accompagnement et catégorisation
Au cours des dernières décennies, la sociologie francophone des âges s’est concentrée sur les passages et leur encadrement par les politiques publiques. Même si de plus en plus de chercheur·se·s appellent à construire une sociologie transversale des âges de la vie, la sociologie de l’âge n’en reste pas moins très segmentée par catégorie : sociologie de l’enfance, de la pré-adolescence, de la jeunesse, du vieillissement. Les recherches sont aussi bien souvent cloisonnées de par leur thématique, amenant les chercheur·se·s à travailler sur un groupe d’âge spécifique : c’est le cas de la socialisation ou de l’école. La sociologie du travail quant à elle a produit un champ abondant de recherche sur l’âge au travail interrogeant l'entrée dans la carrière jusqu’aux aléas de sa fin. Cependant, si l’âge y est envisagé comme une catégorie du parcours, il est rarement étudié en tant qu’objet de l’activité de ceux et celles qui encadrent des passages d’âge.

L’importance déterminante des métiers de services est apparue de manière criante au cours de la dernière année face à la crise sanitaire mondiale de la Covid 19. Ces emplois précaires et peu qualifiés se sont retrouvés en « premières lignes » pour certains (caissières) et on était rendu inutiles pour d’autres (serveuses) du fait des fermetures. Cette journée d’étude se penchera en priorité sur les métiers où l’on trouve une majorité de femmes souvent étant les plus précaires.

The 2021 Congress of the Swiss Sociological Association (SSA)
Social Justice in Times of Uncertainty takes as a starting point the health pandemic that erupted in 2020, which led societies across the world to cope with disruptions in the provisioning of goods and services, means of livelihood, and fundamental freedom – not least, that of movement. The crisis also revealed global and local inequalities, translated into who has the right to live or not, and raised new questions around (in)justice in the contemporary world. In light of the turmoil experienced, as a globalized society and within our communities, this congress emphasizes the relevance of social and environmental justice in the making of a fair society, asking the question: in times of uncertainty, what does it mean to live a good life in a just society?

Des recherches, renouant avec les notions de coopération, voire d’altruisme, renouvellent la question des rapports des humains avec la nature et les autres vivants. S’appuyant sur ces études, dans le contexte d'inquiétudes écologiques croissantes, divers courants critiques, alternatifs ou militants entendent développer des perspectives opposées à celles de la loi de la jungle et de la consommation destructrice. Cet appel à contribution porte sur ces expériences et modes de vie conformes à de nouvelles philosophies des rapports avec la nature et ses vivants, tant en France qu’à l’étranger. On attend des enquêtes sociologiques ou ethnographiques, animées par un regard anthropologique et/ou historique.

Intersections between the system of production and the cultural system
FORMA has gone out with a new call for papers for an introductory issue in what will be a five year project exploring the intersection between the system of production and the cultural system. Accepting papers that investigate this subject from a wide array of perspectives, from biopolitics and bioethics, to technology, ecology, education, (geo)political conflicts, and more, this aims to be an interdisciplinary, comparative issue with a focus on the humanities understood broadly.

The role of art in and towards sustainable changes
While the sociology of arts and culture has long dealt with classical sociological questions of artistic production, distribution and reception, the concern for ecological issues and sustainability has only recently been taken up. On the one hand, the artistic field is an economy and an industry like any other, where the use of natural and human resources leads to questions of inequality, access and power relations. On the other hand, it represents a particular case, as intertwined with the issues of sustainability are those of artistic meaning, reception and cultural practices, and social factors different than in other fields. What is the environmental and social impact of art? Can art be sustainable, both ecologically and socially through time, and how? What can we make of the sustainability of art that is made to last long – sculpture, painting, print, recorded production – as well as of the required preservations techniques and places? And, on the other hand, what is the place of ephemeral art when considering sustainability (in all its aspects): street art, graffiti, art installations, live music and theatre? How can art support transformations towards more sustainable societies? A change in individual and collective practices is needed to achieve the SDGs. What role can or do art and artists play in these transformations? Can artists contribute to shaping alternative paths?

Le contexte de reterritorialisation de l’agriculture et de l’alimentation met en exergue la reconfiguration du système des acteurs autour des enjeux alimentaires jusque-là régulés par l’État et le marché. La diversification des acteurs, l’émergence de la société civile et le renouvellement des politiques alimentaires locales induisent des modes de gouvernance inédits. Ils relèvent souvent de processus d’innovation sociale. Alimentation et production territorialisées constituent alors un levier de développement territorial. Mais le décalage entre réalité vécue au quotidien par les producteurs, attentes du marché, perceptions des élus des collectivités territoriales et initiatives citoyennes pose la question des objectifs et stratégies d’acteurs diversifiés en regard des motivations, attentes, caractérisations, relations, modalités et échelle d’action de ces acteurs.

Active ageing in Africa. For the production of a new social figure
Sonder le vieillissement actif en Afrique laisse entrevoir des interrogations. Comment ajuster sortie relative de l’activité professionnelle, insertion dans la catégorie sociale des personnes âgées et engagement social ? Comment trancher ces deux perceptions des personnes âgées logées dans le regard d’une jeunesse africaine « urbanisée » qui déclame tantôt « les vieilles personnes, quittez ! », tantôt « le vieux est trop fort ! » ? Répondre à ces interrogations, c’est déchiffrer le « mythe de Ngnudoli » ou l’allégorie du tressage d’une natte à partir du sable, qui relate la révolte de jeunes gens résolus à occire « les vieux » de leur village qu’ils jugeaient grabataires.

Le colloque vise à rassembler des spécialistes contemporains de sociologie, architecture, géographie, philosophie, urbanisme, design, communication et médias, dans la perspective d’interroger le décryptage commun de l’expérience urbaine dans ses multiples dimensions sensibles. Le questionnement des ambiances urbaines sensibles se base sur une approche théorique consacrée à lire et analyser la ville et ses espaces et d’autre part sur une approche phénoménologique ayant comme objectif de décrypter les formes de l’imaginaire et les nouvelles sensibilités urbaines.

Food and territorial politics. Policies for food and territories
Food is, with a few exceptions, a relatively understudied object through the lens of local policymaking and urban planning. On the one hand, the sociology of food focuses on the relations that individuals and social groups develop to food deeds, as well as the social relations that food deeds generate between them. On the other hand, studies of food policies in political sociology primarily deal with the agrofood industry and the social movements around alternative modes of production. By contrast, few studies take as a research object food through the lens of agenda-setting in local public policy and its potential effects on territories.

Paris city shut to traffic the riverside road in 2016. This closure has stirred up the media but also professional and academic circles. Some people see it as the end of the car in the city. For others, the car is back in town, but under different configurations. Almost sixty years after the publication of The Death and Life of Great American Cities (Jacobs, 1961), which challenged the role of car-oriented planning, this Flux special issue focuses on car mobilities in metropolitan areas.

Crossing Critical Boundaries
Race in the Marketplace (RIM) is an international multidisciplinary research network dedicated to innovatively advancing knowledge and critically understanding the role of race and how it intersects with class, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and disability in global marketplaces. Building on our successful inaugural RIM Research Forum held in Washington D.C in spring 2017, we have decided to broaden the movement across the Atlantic and hold the second biannual RIM Research Forum in Paris (France) from June 25 to June 27, 2019. The broad objective of this second Forum is to continue the dialogue across domains, disciplines and geographical boundaries to contribute to an integrated understanding of race in markets.

Technology for all? Hackerspaces, fablabs, etc.
“Sociologie pratique” issue 38
La confiance dans la technologie (réduction des pollutions, isolation des bâtiments, traitement des déchets, voitures éléctriques...) conduit souvent à déléguer à d'autres (ingénieurs, chercheurs, mais aussi égalemen responsables politiques) la responsabilité des solutions à trouver aux problèmes environnementaux et sociaux, tout en leur demandant des comptes. Dans ce paysage inquiétant, depuis une dizaine d'années en France, émergent des lieux où s'expérimentent et se développent des réponses originales à ces problèmes, où des innovations sociales variées s'efforcent de repenser le collectif et, surtout, de le mettre en œuvre. Qu'il s'agisse de fablabs, de hackerspaces, de makerspaces, d'openspaces, de hacklabs, ou de repair cafés, qu'ils soient portés par des institutions officielles ou des associations, ces lieux (que nous appellerons génériquement : labs) se multiplient rapidement et paraissent offrir des solutions potentiellement généralisables favorisant l'action collective, la responsabilisation technologique, et la prise de conscience des enjeux environementaux.

Ce colloque souhaite cultiver la mémoire de ces événements, avec tout ce qu'ils comportent de densité, d'ambiguïtés et de paradoxes. Le cadre retenu ne se confine pas à l'épicentre des barricades du quartier latin à Paris, mais cherche au contraire à considérer ce printemps de la jeunesse dans un plus vaste ensemble, incluant ses avatars européens (Prague), américains (Mexico, San Francisco, Boston, Montréal) et asiatiques (Tokyo). Une approche pluridisciplinaire, conviant l'ensemble des sciences sociales, préside à cette rencontre de chercheurs académiques, ou dilettantes (témoins des événements), animés par la volonté d'éclaircir l'héritage de ces mouvements sociaux.

Issue of “Open Cultural Studies”
From novels to government reports, the Victorians attached unprecedented significance to domesticity. The household was a central institution, and their occupants played out their different roles according to custom and circumstance. Within its sphere, gender, class, economic and political conflicts were played out as the household provided the background for important social practices. These practices ranged from the kitchen to the parlour, from the street to the Houses of Parliament, from the colonial metropole to the British colonial outposts in Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific.

The materiality and spatiality of death, burial and commemoration
Special issue in the Journal “Mortality”
The interdisciplinary journal Mortality calls for submissions from all disciplines to reflect on the materiality and spatiality of death, burial and commemoration: Death, dying and burial produce artefacts and occur in spatial contexts. The interplay between such materiality, spatiality and the bereaved who commemorate the dead yields interpretations and creates meanings that can change over time. In this special issue we want to publish papers that explore this interplay by going beyond the consideration of simple grave artefacts on the one hand and graveyards as a space on the other hand, to examine the specific interrelationships between materiality, spatiality, the living and the dead.

The internet of the working classes
La revue Réseaux programme un dossier sur les appropriations des nouvelles technologies par les classes populaires. La littérature sur les usages d’internet porte trop souvent sur les jeunes, les diplômés, les urbains – comme en témoigne le grand nombre d’enquêtes menées auprès de publics étudiants. Il s’agit ici au contraire de porter le regard sur des individus issus des fractions non diplômées de la population, qui n’ont pas ou peu d’usage de l’informatique dans le cadre de leur activité professionnelle, mais utilisent internet dans le cadre de leur vie privée. Il s’agit souvent d’usages qui sont restés invisibles au regard des sciences sociales.
