Workshop 1: Bringing the arts into dialogue
Ce premier atelier du programme de recherche « Américanisation par les arts ? France – États‑Unis. Échanges et appropriations (1850-2020) » abordera la question des échanges et des appropriations culturelles entre la France et les États-Unis, de manière interdisciplinaire, pour en cerner les effets et les modes opératoires sur l’univers sensible tant des Français que des Nord-Américains à partir de quatre portes d’entrée : le corps (manières de se comporter, place accordée au corps dans la vie quotidienne), la voix (manières de parler, de chanter, vocalités, environnement sonore radiophonique et télévisuel), la langue (manières d’écrire et de penser, représentations), les formes (influence des arts savants et populaires dans l’environnement sonore et visuel quotidien).

KISMIF Conference 2020
We are pleased to announce the fifth KISMIF International Conference ‘Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! DIY Cultures and Global Challenges’ (KISMIF Conference 2020) which will take place in Porto, Portugal, between 8 July and 11 July 2020. The submission of abstracts for this conference is open to academic researchers working in all areas of sociology, anthropology, history, cultural economics, cultural studies, geography, philosophy, urban planning, media, and cognate disciplines, such as design, illustration, popular music, cinema, visual and performing arts. This initiative follows the great success of the past four KISMIF Conferences (held in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018) and brings together an international community of researchers focusing on underground music scenes and do-it-yourself cultures.

Migrations and circulations between Italy and France from the 19th century to the present day
À l’occasion de la présentation de l’exposition « Ciao Italia. Immigration et cultures italiennes en France 1860-1960 » à l’Institut français – Centre Saint-Louis, le colloque réunira des chercheurs français et italiens de différentes disciplines afin d’examiner divers aspects des flux migratoires entre l’Italie et la France à l’époque contemporaine. Il s’agit de souligner l’importance et la grande fluidité des mouvements de populations entre les deux pays depuis un siècle et demi. Ces migrations, d’une grande diversité géographique et sociale en fonction des circonstances, contribuent à façonner un espace circulatoire transalpin, cadre d’analyse qui permet de dépasser le traditionnel couple émigration / immigration. À l’heure où la question migratoire suscite des tensions entre la France et l’Italie, une perspective inscrite dans la durée doit permettre de saisir, au-delà des enjeux démographiques et économiques, les effets politiques et culturels de ces migrations du point de vue des rapports entre Français et Italiens.

An Environmental History of the Great War
We intend to bring together an international group of 20 to 30 graduate students working on military, cultural, social, and environmental history of the First World War from 2nd to 7th July 2018. Over the course of the week, they will have opportunity to get to know each other, but also a wide range of internationally recognized academic experts. Guided tours on excursions to French and Belgian sites are an integral part of the program and will enrich the participants' experience.

Decolonization and postcolonial issues of childhood and youth (1945-1980)
While young people played a large role in building colonial empires, they were also an essential concern in decolonization. Indeed, the emancipation process of colonized peoples in the second half of the twentieth century raised with great force the social and political issue of children and young people in the colonial and post-colonial context, both in newly-independent and ex-colonizing countries. In a complex set of political and diplomatic, economic and social, demographic and populationist, philosophical and religious questions, colonial and post-colonial issues surrounding children and young people gave rise to specific biopolitics. Children and young people were subjects of policies desired or supported by biopowers and implemented by varied protagonists such as armies, organizations, humanitarians, colonialists, activists, or regular citizens.

Dans leurs procédures, elles s’appliquent à maîtriser, à conquérir, à capturer et entretiennent un lien fondamental avec la mort. Cette journée veillera donc à aborder un large spectre de représentations des territoires confrontés aux guerres passées et actuelles qui s’offrent comme de multiples terrains d’études, qu’investissent très largement les artistes.

5th European Architectural History Network International Meeting, in Tallinn, June 2018
This session aims to address, from a historical perspective, the relation between, on one side, architecture and the related disciplines, and on the other side, agriculture and rurality at large. We welcome proposals specifically mapping case studies concerned with large-scale agricultural development and/or colonization schemes conceived and (but not necessarily) implemented in Europe and beyond during modern times (late 18th-20th century), strongly connected to nation- and State-building processes, and to the modernization of the countryside. We are particularly interested in those examples which aimed to “make the difference” in both scale and numbers, entailing radical reshaping of previously uninhabited or sparsely populated areas into new, planned, “total” rural landscapes.

La revue en ligne de sciences humaines et sociales ethnographiques.org accueille des contributions d’étudiants ou de chercheurs en vue d’enrichir une réflexion théorique, méthodologique et réflexive sur les pratiques ethnographiques. Les travaux de disciplines proches (sociologie, histoire, géographie…) s’inscrivant dans ce projet sont également les bienvenus. Nous accordons en outre une place importante à l’utilisation de nouvelles techniques de restitution qui obligent à repenser le rendu du terrain ethnographique. Ce numéro sera consacré au thème « Revenir. Quêtes, enquêtes et retrouvailles ».

The birth of military cinemas (1914-1930)
À l'occasion du centenaire de la première guerre mondiale, ce colloque a pour but d'analyser la naissance des services cinématographiques militaires qui éclosent dans le monde au tournant des années 1914-1918. Il s'agira de travailler davantage sur la genèse et l’évolution des structures spécialisées dans la production d'images animées au profit des armées et des États que sur les productions et leurs contenus.

Cette journée d’étude est l’aboutissement d’un séminaire interdisciplinaire organisé en 2015 et 2016 à l’INALCO. Celui-ci entendait réfléchir à la relation complexe entre des productions artistiques et patrimoniales, des politiques culturelles publiques et l’émergence d’identités sociales, collectives ou individuelles, dans des espaces urbains en Afrique subsaharienne depuis le XIXe siècle. Cette journée entend approfondir une analyse dialoguée de phénomènes complexes induitspar la notion de « circulation ».

Archaeology at the birth of international relations

Les travaux portant sur l’archéologie sont majoritairement l’apanage des historiens de l’art et des archéologues. Peu d’historiens se confrontent directement à ce bel objet qui apparaît pourtant de manière récurrente dans nos archives : parcours individuels, négociations et traités… Nous souhaitons, dans le cadre du Bulletin de l’Institut Pierre Renouvin, inverser cette tendance et placer l’archéologie au cœur de travaux d’histoire des relations internationales. Mettre en valeur les particularités de cette approche historique nous permettra de voir en quoi les perspectives offertes par cette discipline apportent un nouvel éclairage, qui vient nourrir et compléter la production existante.

Inventing Grand Paris: comparative approaches to metropolises in the 1970s-2000
Le quatrième colloque international « Inventer le Grand Paris » s’inscrit dans un programme pluriannuel de recherche sur l’histoire du Grand Paris qui s’est développé dans une perspective transnationale et interdisciplinaire. À partir de dates clés de l’histoire du Grand Paris, ce programme propose d’éclairer son actualité en confrontant sa planification et son aménagement à ceux d’autres métropoles à travers le monde. Ainsi, le colloque initial (2013) a pris comme point de départ les travaux de la Commission d’extension de Paris de 1913, première expression d’un projet pour le Grand Paris. Le deuxième (2014) correspondait à la période du premier Plan d’aménagement de la région parisienne, dit plan Prost, de 1934. Le troisième (2015) a porté sur les années quarante jusqu'au Schéma directeur d’aménagement et d’urbanisme de la région de Paris (SDAURP) de 1965. Le colloque de 2016 portera sur les dernières décennies du vingtième siècle, entre 1970, fin d’une période de forte croissance, et 2001, début d’un nouveau cycle qui sera marqué par la relance de la thématique du « Grand Paris ».

The "Face" of First World War Battlefields and Battles
The centenary in 2016 of the two iconic battles of the First World War – Verdun and the Somme – leads us to reconsider battles and battlefields in the historiography of the First World War. Since John Keegan’s pioneering Face of Battle (1976), generations of historians have expanded our understanding of the experience of combat, as well as our knowledge of the literary and artistic representations of the battlefield. The way we think about the legacy of battles in the memory of the First World War around the world, too, has changed. Our week in Verdun and Péronne will not only give us time to reflect on the current state of research on the battles of the First World War and discover the most recent advancements in battlefield archeology and environmental history of warfare, but also confront these readings with on-the-ground visits to the sites studied.

Le séminaire Les internationalismes au miroir des littératures et des cinémas (Afrique, Asie, Amérique latine) s'est donné pour objectif d'aborder sous un triple angle, historique et philosophique, les diverses formes d'internationalismes qui ont guidé les actions politiques depuis la conférence de Bandung jusqu'à l'effondrement de l'URSS (1955-1991). Et ce, à travers les formes littéraires et cinématographiques qui les ont accompagnées.
