  Depuis les travaux anciens et la vague concomitante des éditions de sources sur les règlements des métiers de la deuxième moitié du XIX^e et du premier tiers du XX^e siècle, la question des structures professionnelles sous l’Ancien Régime n’a pas été revisitée, à l’exception près mais tardivement dans les années 1960 des travaux de l’historien Bronislav Geremek et du juriste André Gouron. Or, depuis les années 2000, nombre d’historiens se sont penchées sur l’étude des métiers sous des angles nouveaux (ceux du travail, de l’économie, de la technique). Il nous a semblé alors opportun de renouveler la question de l’organisation des métiers à travers sa règlementation.

  Work and family in an order-based society

  Intercultural dialogue and interdisciplinary perspectives

  L’atelier a pour objectif de proposer à des jeunes chercheurs français et allemands spécialisés en histoire et en histoire du droit un forum de discussion durant lequel ils pourront engager un dialogue interdisciplinaire et présenter leurs recherches sur les relations, les influences réciproques et les courants contraires entre les notions de travail et de famille du Moyen Âge central à la fin de l’époque moderne (vers 1100-1815). Ses trois angles d’approche - le phénomène de négociation des normes, les inégalités dans le travail, et l’influence du contexte politique, culturel et socio-économique - permettront aux participants d’investir le thème peu exploré des relations entre travail et famille dans le cadre d’une diversité sociale et culturelle.

  The Emancipation of Bound Laborers in the Americas before the Abolition of Slavery

  What were the modalities of the emancipation of unfree workers? Which factors motivated the adoption of legislation regulating emancipations? Is it possible to establish a typology of the emancipators and of the emancipated servants and slaves? To what extent did slaves and indentured servants take part in their own liberation? Did the introduction of slavery provide any negotiating power to white servants, for instance by reducing their length of service? Did the practice of emancipation evolve in reaction to the advent of abolitionism, especially after the movement gained momentum and radicalized itself?

  Merchants, jurists and other "intermediate groups" in Early Modern Southern Europe

  Merchants, farmers, jurists, clerks in large institutions, secretaries, independent landowners, local elites and highly sought master craftsmen, among many others, are individuals with an ambiguous social status. Looking at who was not born exactly noble, nor exactly commoner, but stood on the border between one world and the other, is one of the goals of this initiative. As part of a project developed in Portugal focusing on the Holy Office’s familiaturas, it will be held on September 16 and 17, 2015, a workshop at Escuela Española de Historia and Archaeological in Rome. Our aim is to select a total of 8 applicants, that will be joined by 4 guest speakers, for a joint reflection on the dynamics and profiles of ‘intermediate groups’, as well as on the methodologies for their study in Early Modern Times.

  Il s’agit ici d’éclairer la manière dont a été, ou est encore, théorisée la protection sociale, depuis l’Antiquité jusqu’à nos jours. Même si la réflexion en la matière ne se généralise et ne se structure vraiment qu’à la Révolution française, toutes les époques contiennent en effet des éléments de réflexion. On l’aura compris : la journée d’études s’attachera aux grandes figures de cette histoire, comme aux auteurs et aux théories oubliés. Quels sont les différents modèles et idées ayant été proposés ?
