Friedrich Engels (1820-1895) bicentenary conference
Le parcours et l'œuvre de Friedrich Engels demeurent encore souvent dans l'ombre de Karl Marx. L'ambition de ce colloque pluridisciplinaire, organisé les 30 novembre et 1er décembre 2020 à l'université de Strasbourg à l'occasion du bicentenaire de sa naissance, est de rompre avec les idées reçues sur Engels en mobilisant les acquis de la recherche récente en sciences humaines et sociales, afin de projeter sur sa vie et ses travaux une lumière nouvelle.

Organitechnoscience. The organic and technological in discourse about literature
La théorie littéraire contemporaine s’appuie sur de nombreuses figures de pensée qui mêlent l’organique et le technique, rejouant un changement de paradigme déjà à l’œuvre dans d’autres disciplines scientifiques depuis le milieu du XXe siècle. Le colloque examinera certaines de ces figures de l’hybridation plus particulièrement dans le domaine germanophone, sans exclure les influences théoriques et les transferts venus des pays francophones et anglophones.

Sciences Po 7th Graduate Conference in Political Theory
We are happy to announce that the seventh annual Graduate Conference in Political Theory is going to be held in Paris on June 6-8, 2019, entitled Crossroads of Critique: Axel Honneth and the Frankfurt School Project. We welcome contributions from graduate students of political theory across the board and intend to accommodate various approaches (analytical, historical, normative, and critical) as well as contributions from related disciplines (philosophy, social theory, etc.). We also aim at geographic diversity, in that we shall try to foster a substantial academic dialogue between young political theorists from Europe and their peers across the world. Over recent years, the Sciences Po Graduate Conference has established itself as one of Europe’s foremost venues for an international exchange of ideas among graduate students in political theory.

Considéré en son temps comme « l’agitateur le plus important du mouvement révolutionnaire radical » en Allemagne, le philosophe et activiste anarchiste Gustav Landauer (1870-1919) bénéficie aujourd’hui d’un vif regain d’intérêt. Un siècle après son assassinat, ce colloque international – le premier organisé en France à son propos – entend rendre compte de ce renouveau.

Alfred Sohn-Rethel (1899-1990) and his work today
L’œuvre d’Alfred Sohn-Rethel (1899-1990) s’est construite autour d’une thèse, sans cesse retravaillée : l’origine des concepts abstraits de l’entendement ne se trouve pas dans un a priori métaphysique, mais procède de l’être social, plus précisément de l’acte de l’échange, concrétisé dans l’usage de la monnaie frappée. Cette thèse, anti-kantienne et marxiste dans son projet, a suscité des réactions très contrastées, entre enthousiasme et rejet virulent. Près de 30 ans après la disparition du philosophe, un regain d’intérêt pour son œuvre semble se dessiner, d’où l’objectif de ce colloque : interroger la fécondité, voire l’actualité de ses intuitions.

Animal rights and the vegan movement in Germany
En février 2017, le ministère allemand de l'Environnement décidait de supprimer la viande des repas servis à ses convives. On estime que l'Allemagne compte cette même année environ 8 millions de végétariens et 1,3 millions de végans (qui refusent l'utilisation de tout produit animal). Il apparaît donc intéressant de s'interroger sur la question animale en Allemagne quatorze ans après le colloque de Marc Cluet consacré à « L'amour des animaux dans le monde germanique », et ce d'autant plus que ces questions agitent de plus en plus également la société française. Nous avons choisi une approche interdisciplinaire pour aborder ces questions – littérature, philosophie, histoire, sociologie, économie, etc. – car la question animale est par essence transversale.

The Wisdom of the Ancients. Jerusalem rediscovers Athens
The German-Jewish Revaluation of Ancient Philosophy
Between 1920 and 1930, a group of young, brilliant Jewish researchers studied in Germany under the direction of Cassirer, Husserl and Heidegger. Leo Strauss, Karl Löwith, Hans Jonas, Hannah Arendt, Jacob Klein, Eric Weil, Günther Anders, and others were forced by the advent of Nazism to escape from Germany and to wander around the world. All these thinkers strove to question the historicist assumption, according to which Modernity is to be seen as progress in respect to the Ancient thought. In their studies, they found new ways to listen to the voice of the Ancients, by revaluating them in the context of the crisis of modern thought. Starting from Athens and Jerusalem, the symbolic roots of western culture, these philosophers problematized and revitalized the quarrel between Ancients and Moderns over again.

Au cœur de l’école d’été se trouve la tentative de comparer les « philosophies de la vie » française et allemande au XXe siècle et de les faire se confronter dans un colloque. Cette discussion autour de la dialectique entre le concept de vie et le problème de l’homme touche la tension, fondamentale pour la modernité, qui distingue la réflexion aux teintes « anthropologiques » sur la vie (en Allemagne) d’une critique « antihumaniste » (en France).

Le Franco-Allemand ou les enjeux des réseaux transnationaux
L'année 2013 est marquée par la célébration des 50 ans du Traité de l'Elysée. C'est à cette occasion que le département des études interculturelles sous la direction de Prof. Dr. Dorothee Röseberg organise un colloque franco-allemand qui a pour sujet le Franco-Allemand. La manifestation aura lieu du 14 au 16 juin dans les bâtiments de la LEUCORA à Lutherstadt Wittenberg. Le colloque s'adresse particulièrement à de jeunes chercheurs francais et allemands qui travaillent dans le cadre de leur qualification sur des aspects du transnational. -

Being free, doing free – freedom between theoretical and practical philosophy
Junior Conference for Graduate Students
If today, freedom can be conceived as a physiological property of human being, such conception trivializes the history of freedom as a philosophical concept. Throughout the history of philosophy, freedom has always been discussed in much larger contexts: If, for example, freedom consists in acting freely in causally determined nature, a conception of human freedom arises only from metaphysical presupposition. The same holds true for an understanding of human freedom as something realizing itself in history, as something that is only possible through grace, or as something that must be won against dominant interpretations of self and world. The concept of freedom is thus not only a topic in practical and theoretical philosophy, but can be understood as a connection of both–and be it in a tension between the two. We are calling for contributions both in the history of philosophy and in a systematic approach to the topic.
