"Perspective" Journal 2021 – n°2
This call for paper asks the question of what it means to inhabit : to inhabit a space, a territory, one’s home or one’s body, whether we are dealing with far away frontiers, or the outlines of intimacy ; to inhabit one’s life, one’s society/ies, one’s epoch, in what inhabiting means in terms of being present in one’s world, for and with one another, to face circumstances as they stand. In a time when, across the globe, entire populations are confined to their homes, Perspective issues an invitation to revisit the visual and imaginary plasticity of inhabiting : “to occupy a place of settled residence or habitat,” so states the dictionary, suggesting habit, repetition, regularity ; but also occupying persons, inhabiting them, animating them, moving them.

Limits and practices of art - materialities and objects, processes and reception
Matérialités et objets, processus et réception
Histoire de l’art souhaite placer au cœur de son prochain numéro la notion de « limite », à la fois comme expérience de la création artistique, dans ses usages, contenus, matériaux, et comme cadre de l’histoire de l’art, dont le périmètre même porte en germe les éventuels franchissements et dépassements de la discipline. La réflexion attendue portera sur la manière dont la création artistique comme l’histoire de l’art sont traversées, modifiées, reprises par leurs propres limites, limites subies ou librement définies. Ce numéro fera également une place aux propositions prenant le parti de sonder les limites discursives de l’histoire de l’art, dans leur approche disciplinaire ou historique.

Institutional critique and its manifestations
La critique institutionnelle fait actuellement l’objet d’une vaste discussion qui reflète la polysémie du terme, défini à la fois comme un mouvement artistique, une méthode d’investigation et de critique, et un mode opératoire. Cependant, cette nébuleuse conceptuelle opère dans une géographie incertaine, principalement occidentale mais aux influences et aux ramifications diverses, et dont les manifestations ne sont pas toujours identifiées comme telles. Y a-t-il des zones géographiques où la critique institutionnelle serait restée invisible, ou se serait manifestée via des systèmes lexicaux différents ? Peut-on apposer le label « critique institutionnelle » à n’importe quelle manifestation critiquant les institutions ? Cette journée d’étude se propose d’éclairer, à travers diverses manifestations dans des contextes géographiques et historiques différents, les parcours de la critique institutionnelle dans l’histoire de l’art contemporain.

A través de su convocatoria permanente, el Boletín de Arte (BOA) invita a enviar artículos para el Nro 21, a publicarse en Abril de 2021. BOA es una publicación electrónica, anual y arbitrada, con alcance nacional e internacional, editada por el Instituto de Historia del Arte Argentino y Americano (IHAAA) de la Facultad de Artes (FDA) de la UNLP. BOA publica artículos originales e inéditos en los que se expongan avances y resultados de investigaciones sobre la historia del arte, los estudios visuales y las artes comparadas. La revista está dirigida a profesionales, investigadores, docentes, becarios y estudiantes de posgrado y se edita en español, inglés, francés y portugués.

The ongoing global health crisis, rather than overtaking the strike action in France and the UK, has instead highlighted social discriminations even further – exacerbated by its accompanying economical and existential difficulties. Indeed, public funding both for the health system in particular and research in general appears crucial to guarantee fair social policies. However, during the past decade, in research and teaching, as well as in the arts, circumstances have become very stringent: project funding, performance agreements, management via evaluation and performance indicators are more common than anytime before. The right to fail is thus obviously threatened by an ideology of success built by the neoliberal economy.

Le présent volume souhaite recueillir des articles dont la principale problématique est de réfléchir à l’évolution des formes et des enjeux liés à la production manifestaire et programmatique des auteurs locaux et diasporiques originaires d’Afrique francophone. Dans le contexte général de la crise des idéologies et du manifeste annoncée par Claude Abastado, nous voudrons mettre en lumière les transformations structurelles du genre ainsi que celles des groupes littéraires et artistiques qui l’utilisent et le (re)pensent.

Colloque international Beauviatech
Ce colloque ambitionne d’interroger, à nouveaux frais, la relation argentique/numérique en cherchant à la replacer dans un contexte bien plus large d’histoire des techniques et des formes. Si le programme BEAUVIATECH, s’intéresse plus particulièrement pour sa part à ces questions techniques sous l’angle d’une étude approfondie de la société française de fabrication de matériel audiovisuel Aaton et de ses relations avec les techniciens et cinéastes des années 1970 à nos jours, ce colloque souhaite élargir la réflexion en se focalisant sur un moment particulier de cette histoire technique du cinéma, correspondant à une importante crise de l’argentique au profit du support numérique.

Graphic design. Ways of doing research
The graphic design field has been witnessing a steadily growing interest in research. A new wave of researchers recently emerged. However, without a formally defined discipline, these researchers generally work from within other disciplines, using sometimes very different methods, frameworks and references. This one-day conference will be questioning these theoretical frameworks and methods by those who are designing and using them. What are “designerly ways of knowing” and ways of doing that are specific to graphic design research? The discussions will help us develop a shared paradigm and establish a common ground for the discipline.

Killing the fathers: Women behind the camera on home movies
The Study day « Killing the fathers : Women behind the camera on home movies » proposes a collective reflection on amateur images produced by the family. By affirming and perpetuating the family institution in its patriarchal, nuclear and heterosexual configuration, the home movie has thus contributed to reproduce the bourgeois codes and hierarchies of gender and sexuality. By conceiving amateur cinema as a “technology of gender” (De Lauretis, 1987), we welcome papers on amateur images made by women to uncover and analyse their own “familial gaze”.

Florence, a city of art, and the French - the creation of a myth
L’objet du colloque est le rôle des Français dans la construction d’un mythe de Florence comme « ville d’art » à travers l’histoire, l’histoire de l’art et les diverses formes de production artistique. À Florence, plus que partout ailleurs en Italie, la beauté de la ville, le paysage urbain, les grands artistes et leurs chefs-d’œuvre ont fait l’objet d’un véritable processus de mythification culturelle depuis le XIXe siècle. Florence apparaît ainsi dans la culture française comme un lieu central et idéal dont le souvenir et les représentations infusent très largement la conception générale des arts, de l’humanisme, de la Renaissance italienne, du génie artistique. Si la vivacité du mythe florentin a été bien étudiée chez nos voisins européens, en particulier en Angleterre et en Allemagne, la présence des Français à Florence, l’importance du mythe florentin et ses développements intellectuels et artistiques en France ont été relativement négligés par la critique.

Twenty years after the death of E. A. Vigo, the Instituto de Historia del Arte Argentino y Americano (IHAAA) dependent on the Secretaría de Ciencia y Técnica of the Facultad de Bellas Artes (UNLP) invites researchers in art history, visual studies and art theory to submit proposals focused on his work and the issues he raised throughout his career. The International symposium on and from Edgardo Antonio Vigo convenes to discuss and reflect on the legacy of the artist, considering specific aspects of his production, as well as possible projections of these issues in contemporary art.

Intersections of Art, Science, and Technology in Soviet Film and Culture
By maintaining the tension between artists’ imaginative approaches to technology in the Soviet Union (Meyerhold’s Biomechanics), film directors’ use of science such as physiology (Eisenstein’s Expressive Movement), and scientists’ own theorization of art history (Lev Vygotsky’s The Psychology of Art), this workshop aims at unpacking the historical and political forces behind Soviet film theory, film practice, and art history in relation to science and technology. While examining the juncture between art, science, and technology in post-Revolutionary Russia, with a focus on the avant-garde period until the death of Joseph Stalin, cinema is thus considered as a device beyond its medium of film (Francois Albera, Maria Tortajada: Cinema Beyond Film) and the medium-specificity of the arts is called into question.

The call for papers is addressed to researchers and students, from disciplines such as film history and theory, art history, history, anthropology, visual anthropology, as well as participants in these fields (film critics, artists and curators) who have encountered the filmmakers’ work at different moments in their artistic career.

Cette journée d'études souhaiterait questionner les rapports pour le moins complexes que peuvent entretenir la recherche académique avec les nombreuses pratiques commémoratives (expositions, rétrospectives, etc.) suscitées par les « dates anniversaires » structurant plus que jamais notre rapport avec le cinéma, en particulier autour du thème de sa naissance ou de ses origines, à un moment où, vingt ans après, certains viennent prolonger les célébrations du « centenaire » de 1995.

Association de recherche sur l'image photographique workshop (ARIP)
L'ARIP reconduit un cycle de rendez-vous pour l’année 2015-2016. Elles prendront la forme d’ateliers mensuels avec un objectif double : ils seront d’une part l’occasion de découvrir des sujets de recherche inédits sur la photographie et d’autre part, ils permettront d’aborder et d’explorer des questionnements méthodologiques soulevés par un travail de recherche en photographie, et auxquels se trouvent souvent confronté·e·s nombre de (jeunes) chercheur·e·s. dans ce domaine. Plus encore que l’année passée, ces ateliers veulent constituer un lieu participatif et bienveillant d’échanges horizontaux, avec comme enjeu essentiel de partager, voire de construire ensemble, des savoirs méthodologiques. Il ne s’agira en aucun cas de présentations académiques, du type conférence.

Alcuinus and the Carolingian Monumental Poetry – Medieval Ekphrasis, between East and West, Antiquity and Modernity
The sessions would like to explore the formal connections between the poetic production of medieval writers and the works of art they describe, evoke or invent in these texts. The academic separations of visual studies from the textual ones have been erasing for many years the relationship existing between the two kinds of com-position. From the Vth to the end of the XIIth century, from Paulinus of Nola to Baudri of Bourgueil, a rich corpus of these texts has been composed by some of the most prestigious writers of their time and stages some of the richest works of art from medieval Europe: the wall paintings in St Gall abbey and Mainz cathedral, the Bayeux tapestry, the stained glasses in St Denis basilica…

The set in the process of cinematographic and audiovisual creation
Dans la lignée de nombreux travaux universitaires consacrés à la thématique du tournage dans le cinéma et l’audiovisuel, la présente journée d'études doctorales vise à interroger les spécificités de ce moment du processus de production au cours duquel le projet d’un film ou d’une création audiovisuelle entre dans sa phase de réalisation concrète. Nous invitons de jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur des sujets très différents, aussi bien en économie, en sociologie, qu'en histoire ou en esthétique du cinéma, à se saisir de cet objet de réflexion large et transversal, afin d’enrichir leurs questionnements mutuels.
