  The Multidisciplinary Grid 2020 Conference

  The conference is aimed at examining the ‘grid’ as a cross-disciplinary theme with a multiplicity of expressions in terms of definitions, concepts, perceptions, representations, and histories. The ‘grid’ has played a significant role in shaping the spatial imaginaries of a wide range of fields: from Hippodamus of Miletus to the Cartesian revolution in mathematics, from the visual arts to archaeology to 'smart cities' and artificial intelligence. As the 'grid' has become an all-encompassing term, signifying a vast array of infrastructural and communication networks through which contemporary life is mediated and controlled, it is commonly viewed as a quintessential symbol of modernity. The conference strives to explore a new horizon of relationships and fusion of the ‘grids’ in these areas as manifested between humans, between machines, and between humans and machines ‒ bridging philosophical, cultural, pedagogical, technical and ethical issues.

  Les « workshop(s) »

  L'initiative de cette double journée d'étude est formulée depuis l'Atelier de recherches transdisciplinaires esthétique et sociétés (ARTES) de l'université Bordeaux Montaigne. Outre la consonance latine qui marque la conscience d'un héritage, le premier terme d'atelier renvoie implicitement à l'anglais workshop, entendu comme un lieu de recherche et d'expérimentation collective, par regards croisés. Le terme de workshop s'est en effet institué, (presque insidieusement,) dans le vocabulaire de nombreuses communautés et organisations pédagogiques ou professionnelles, depuis le champ artistique où il a pu prendre corps, jusqu'aux sphères économiques en passant par l'ensemble des disciplines académiques.

  Créativité et interdisciplinarité

  La question de l’interdisciplinarité, dans son rapport à la créativité, déclenche une polémique d’actualité sur le présent et ses agitations aussi bien que sur l’éventuel et son devenir curieux sous le règne d’interconnexions imprévisibles. Ces connexions interdisciplinaires appelleront, en guise d’un contournement assez exhaustif de leurs manifestations, enjeux et perspectives, des contributions pluridisciplinaires.
