Les chrétiens européens face à leurs passés embarrassants (du Moyen Âge à nos jours)
Les mémoires collectives semblent se focaliser avant tout sur des événements perçus de manière positive par les groupes porteurs de mémoire, en particulier dans le cadre des communautés chrétiennes. Témoignant de l’accomplissement d’un plan providentiel ou de la fidélité de croyants envers Dieu en dépit des difficultés, les faits mémorisés sont généralement honorables. Pour autant, certains actes commis par des chrétiens peuvent embarrasser leurs coreligionnaires des années ou des siècles plus tard. Cette journée d’étude, centrée sur le christianisme en Europe (et ses prolongements coloniaux), vise à explorer ces mémoires honteuses dans la longue durée, du Moyen Âge à nos jours.

Dans le cadre de l’exposition Mémoires républicaines en Vaucluse qui se déroulera au Musée d’histoire Jean Garcin à Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (84800), la Conservation départementale projette de publier un catalogue d’exposition dans lequel figureront les textes et documents de l’exposition majeurs ainsi que des articles scientifiques. Dans ce contexte, un appel à contribution est lancé afin d’embrasser au mieux la période révolutionnaire en Vaucluse et d’offrir un contenu scientifique supplémentaire à l’exposition.

Paray-le-Monial
Le Carnet parodien d’histoire de l’art et d’archéologie est un nouveau carnet de recherche publié en ligne sur la plateforme d'OpenEdition, Hypothèses. Il propose à de jeunes chercheurs comme à des chercheurs confirmés de publier des articles et posters en lien avec le thème annuel du colloque de Paray-le-Monial. Les posters sont exposés lors du colloque (3-4 octobre 2020). Cette année, le thème est « Reliques et pèlerinages ». Les articles et posters peuvent concerner toutes les périodes mais doivent privilégier des sujets liés à l'Europe occidentale.

12th conference of the Funerary Archaeology and Anthropology Group (Gaaf)
La XIIe rencontre du Groupe d'archéologie et d'anthropologie funéraires (Gaaf) aura pour objectif de discuter des funérailles, au sens le plus large du terme, autorisant le passage entre le jour de la vie et les ténèbres de la mort. Il s’agira d’aborder l’ensemble des gestes portés sur ou autour du corps et de la tombe, avant, pendant et après le dépôt du défunt, qu’ils soient anecdotiques ou révélateurs d’une chaîne opératoire. Un tel sujet permet en effet d'évoquer, non seulement les gestes techniques qui conduisent au bon déroulement des funérailles, mais aussi les gestes constitutifs de la tombe, les gestes rituels, les gestes de préparation du défunt ainsi que ceux liés à la mémoire, réactivant le souvenir.

XVIII International ARYS Conference
This conference aims to deconstruct the ideas of rural religion as mechanically reproducing urban rituals and religious hierarchies and of the rural world as a space of cultural and religious resilience against urbanity. Rural areas represented an arena for very situational processes of negotiation between, on the one hand, administrative patterns and related social configurations, and, on the other hand, processes of social conformance to the very characteristics of a local specific rural environment, of adaptation to its peculiar habitus and religious customs, possibly involving gods whose competences directly mirrored a geophysical environment made of mountains, rivers, woods, etc.

The Department of Historical Science at the University of Málaga and the Institute of Historiography “Julio Caro Baroja” at the University of Carlos III of Madrid are organizing an international conference titled “Calling upon gods, offering bodies. Strategies of human-divine communication in the Roman Empire from individual experience to social reproduction”. Researchers of Ancient History, History of Religion, Archaeology, Anthropology, Classics, and other related fields are invited to present their research on this topic. The conference aims at analysing how self-experience of religious communication becomes a reflexive phenomenon reproduced in time and space to constitute a collectively shared narrative.

Organised by the ERC Advanced Grant “Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency” (MAP - 741182), the conference Naming and Mapping the gods in the Ancient Mediterranean. Spaces, Mobilities, Imaginaries hopes to bring together the competences and specialties of multiple disciplines – archaeology, history, geography, anthropology, history of religions, philology, reception, social network analysis – in order to consider new documentation corpora concerning the intersection between the divine and space. Among other things, the conference aims to propose an innovative angle of approach: the intersection between the spaces and designations of the gods.

Cet appel à communications est dédié à un atelier de jeunes chercheurs dont l'objectif sera de faire un état des lieux de la recherche concernant la question de la réforme grégorienne, de sa définition et de la compréhension de ses enjeux, dans les espaces francophones et germanophones, dans une démarche non seulement comparatiste, mais aussi transdisciplinaire, puisqu'il s'agira d'interroger l'état de la question aussi bien en histoire politique qu'en histoire du droit, en histoire de l'art qu'en théologie, par exemple. Cet atelier de jeunes chercheurs est organisé par Tristan Martine (université Jean Moulin Lyon 3, CIHAM-UMR 5648) et Jérémy Winandy (universität Hamburg).

Ce colloque entend appréhender la production de manuscrits hagiographiques dans le Nord de la France et dans la Belgique actuelle entre la fin du Moyen Âge et l'époque moderne (XIVe-XVIe siècle). Il s'agira de considérer pour la première fois ensemble les manuscrits écrits en latin, en langue d'oïl et en moyen-néerlandais dans un espace où ils ont été produits en nombre, afin de mieux saisir leurs fonctions et leurs usages en les replaçant dans les transformations sociales et religieuses de leur temps.

“Contemporary spiritualities” and “New Age”
Ethnographic and historical-comparative approaches to a transnational field
While the first theorists of secularization foresaw the gradual disappearance of religion from the public sphere, others observed a reorganization or even a “return of the sacred” on a worldwide scale. Aside from fundamentalisms which strongly uphold the idea of “tradition” and strengthen borders, new forms of religious expression have appeared transnationally, most often deinstitutionalized and integrated in civil society: for example, the “new religious movements”, and especially the more diffused and nebulous networks, groups and movements known under the generic terms of “New Age” and “contemporary spiritualities”.This session seeks to explore these new forms of transnational religiosity expressed through the notions of “spiritualities” and “New Age” from the perspectives of ethnography and the comparative social history of religion.

L’objectif de ce colloque est de dresser un état des lieux des recherches et des travaux récents portant sur les livres, tant manuscrits qu’imprimés, et sur la bibliothèque du Mont Saint-Michel et de dégager de nouvelles perspectives d’étude. La période retenue couvre le Moyen Âge et l’époque moderne : elle s’étend de la fondation du Mont Saint-Michel par l’évêque d’Avranches Aubert (708) à la fermeture du monastère lors de la Révolution française (1791).

Face aux outils développés aujourd’hui par la géomatique, l’historien du religieux est invité à réviser en profondeur ses modes de collecte, de documentation, de production, de visualisation et de diffusion des données historiques. Ce colloque s’intéressera : au réexamen, à travers les outils de la géomatique, de cartes anciennes – cartes d'usage élaborées pour répondre à des besoins de gestion de l’espace ; à la réutilisation de bases de données (sources archivistiques ou enquêtes initiées par les chercheurs dès le XIXe siècle) déjà anciennement cartographiées ; à l’élaboration, ex nihilo, de nouvelles cartes à partir de données archivistiques quantitatives ou qualitatives non encore cartographiées.

One of the questions raised today by some Egyptian religious authorities is on the lawfulness and relevance of using intellectual tools foreign to the Islamic tradition to read and interpret the Qurʾān and texts of the classic Islamic heritage. Is it permissible and appropriate to use contemporary human sciences to study the texts of the Arab-Islamic patrimony or should it be limited to the Ḥadīṯ? IDEO would like to contribute to this debate by studying the emergence of the Ḥadīṯ as the authority of knowledge in the Islamic sciences between the 4ᵗʰ/10ᵗʰ and the 8ᵗʰ/14ᵗʰ century.

Est-ce qu’elle est esquivée par une vision technicienne de l'éducation ou est-elle affirmée en tant que visée de l’éducation ? Cette rencontre scientifique s’intègre dans un cycle thématique de recherches sur les écrits des dépendances monastiques, engagé par Claire Lamy et Jean-Baptiste Renault. Une première journée a été organisée en septembre 2015 à l’université de Poitiers. La rencontre concerne particulièrement l'histoire des relations entre les dépendances et leur maisons-mères envisagée par les transferts d'archives.
