The focus of the project is on cultural and scientific historical sources of the 18th and 19th centuries in the context of Alexander von Humboldt's American journey.

Le sujet proposé par Marilyn Nicoud (UAPV-CIHAM), professeur d'histoire médiévale à l'UAPV et directrice-adjointe du CIHAM, « Médecine, santé, société (Occident, XIIe-XVe siècles) », est volontairement large pour laisser toute latitude au/à la candidat(e) pour en définir précisément les contours avec la directrice de thèse. Il s'inscrit aussi bien dans une approche intellectuelle, culturelle que sociale de l'histoire de la médecine et de la santé, de l'histoire des savoirs et des pratiques. Les sources de l'enquête peuvent aussi bien concerner l'histoire des textes et des livres (histoire des doctrines, approches philologique et codicologique, édition numérique) que celle des pratiques individuelles et collectives à travers des sources archivistiques.

Grâce au financement des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada (IRSC, 2013-2016) et la Chaire de recherche sur la francophonie canadienne en santé, notre équipe de recherche entend participer à une lecture pancanadienne de l’histoire de la santé mentale au Canada en s’intéressant spécifiquement au contexte de désinstitutionnalisation et de déhospitalisation qui a marqué l’Ontario et le Québec dans la seconde moitié du XXe siècle. Considérant qu’un Canadien sur neuf hospitalisés pour maladie mentale retournera à l’urgence moins d’un mois après sa sortie d’hôpital, il nous intéresse de documenter les itinéraires « transinstitutionnels » des personnes souffrant de troubles psychiques.
