Circuler entre les « extrêmes »

Le(s) nationalisme(s) comme dénominateur commun entre les Amériques et l'Europe (XXe-XXIe siècles)

Les temps de crise mettent en évidence des phénomènes intellectuels et politiques qualifiés d’atypiques en Europe mais inscrits dans une temporalité longue en Amérique latine. Tel est le cas des convergences, occasionnelles ou plus durables, à l’échelle nationale ou transnationale, entre les extrêmes d’un échiquier politique plutôt pensé en termes de droite(s) ou de gauche(s). Or, cette dichotomie n’est pas toujours pertinente pour rendre compte des expériences latino-américaines, et des coïncidences survenant dans les représentations politiques et stratégiques : entre militants d’extrême droite et organisations se revendiquant du marxisme, de secteurs du trotskisme et de mouvances nationalistes, de membres d’organisations révolutionnaires et de groupes paramilitaires ou enfin d’intellectuels oscillant entre socialisme et fascisme. La relation entre la nation en tant que projet et le nationalisme comme idéologie semble fonder cette spécificité régionale. Telle est l’hypothèse que nous souhaiterions discuter à l’occasion de cette journée d’étude.

Exploring a democratic ritual: “Young citizens’ ceremonies” in transnational perspective

Throughout the 20th century, and in some instances until today, various European countries, among them Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France, have organized ceremonies to celebrate the accession of young citizens to their political rights (and duties). Called Jungbürgerfeier, Erstwählerfeier, Burgerdag or promotions citoyennes, these rituals have long been forgotten in countries where they ceased to exist, or been overlooked as marginal or simply boring. In fact, however, in the course of their transformations and transnational circulation they have crystallized key tensions within contemporary democracies. We would like to invite scholars working on or interested by these ceremonies in other contexts to join us and help us broaden our transnational perspective.

Legal chronicles and the memory of Nazism in Germany, Austria and France

Ce projet interdisciplinaire s’adresse à des chercheuses et chercheurs en histoire, études germaniques, droit et sciences de l’information et de la communication. Il vise à analyser l’impact des procès de criminels nazis peu connus du grand public sur la transmission de la mémoire du nazisme en France, en Allemagne et en Autriche. Il se penche sur deux moments peu investis par la recherche, les années 1950 et les années 2000-2010 à partir de la chronique judiciaire (comptes rendus dans la presse, la radio, la télévision et sur internet), qui fait le lien entre l’arène du tribunal et l’opinion.

Il convegno intende focalizzare l’attenzione sul tema dell'architettura residenziale a Roma mettendo in relazione gli studi sulle tipologie e sul linguaggio architettonico dell'antichità con le esperienze dei primi decenni del Novecento, realizzate contestualmente allo sviluppo abitativo della Capitale.

Migrating Archives of Reality

Programming, Curating, and Appropriation of Non-fiction Film

The digital turn, which has created new modes of access and circulation for films, underscores and amplifies what has been the fate of non-fiction film since the beginning of its existence - it has always been, and continues to be, a migrating archive of reality. Practices of digitization, online programming, digital curation, appropriation, and sharing, open up new spaces and layers of meaning. Moreover, they also alter and sometimes overwrite the original or historical meaning of non-fiction films, with significant epistemic, political, and ethical consequences. The conference strives to address these challenges, taking into account the diverse views of (media and film) historians, archivists, (digital) curators, and artists, who could comment on issues of programming, curation and appropriation (especially archival) of non-fiction film in history and today.

The Middle Ages of the Social Sciences

The present issue of the Revue d’histoire des sciences humaines intends to gather inquiries into specific uses of the Middle Ages in twentieth century social sciences. The reference to the Middle Ages may result from a scholarly acquaintance with the medieval world, as well as from tools forged by medieval studies. Alternatively, it may be correlated with intricate cultural mediations, for example through religion or literature. We would like to invite the practitioners of the various disciplines of the SSH (psychoanalysis, sociology, historical anthropology, history, the history of science and knowledge, art history, and philosophy, among others) to contribute to this issue either with a case study, or with a broader methodological or epistemological reflection on their scientific and knowledge practices envisioned from an historical point of view.

Censorship and blind spots: the BBC’s silences

The BBC's reputation for impartiality and independence is one of the cornerstones of its value system, which also underpins its self-declared mission to "inform, educate, and entertain". However, these values have constantly been redefined as several forms of censorship and self-censorship have been applied in the context of conflict with political or economic powers. This means that the role and independence of the BBC as a public service needs to be questioned and the grey areas and silences of the BBC from its creation in 1922 to the beginning of its digital era in 1995 need to be the objects of inquiry.

LGBTQIA+ studies for contemporary history, having produced a vast amount of researches, are still questioning history and historiography: how can LGBTQIA+ history be written? Does it challenge the historical imagination in terms of sources, archives, political and disciplinary boundaries, gender categories? Diacronie. The French-speaking world: the space of transnational circulation in a global, connected world (late 19th-20th centuries)

Présente sur tous les continents, sans exception, et progressivement institutionnalisée à partir des années 1960, la francophonie doit être interrogée dans ses multiples interactions, culturelles, mais aussi économiques, politiques, stratégiques et militaires. En effet, les enjeux, les choix voire les dominations linguistiques ou culturelles s'appuient aussi sur la défense d'intérêts politiques, stratégiques, économiques et commerciaux. Espace de circulations transnationales et de confrontations, la francophonie doit s'appréhender historiquement dans la diversité de ses acteurs, associatifs, gouvernementaux et intergouvernementaux, parlementaires, scientifiques, médiatiques, artistiques, issus des collectivités territoriales ou de la société civile. Fondé sur ces questions de base, ce colloque de la revue Relations internationales a vocation à étudier l’histoire de la francophonie, de la fin du XIX^e siècle à nos jours, des réseaux, des échanges et des institutions que le partage de la langue française a produits, mais aussi des tensions et des crises qu'elle a fait naître ou qu'elle a eu à gérer.

From the end of the 19th century to the 1980s

Le syndicalisme peut se définir, sur un plan général, comme un outil collectif de défense des intérêts matériels et moraux d'un groupe de salarié·e·s, organisé·e·s par métier ou par branche d'activité ou, de manière croissante au cours du XX^e siècle, sur une base intercatégorielle. Très tôt, dès la fin du XIX^e, et indépendamment des régimes politiques au sein desquels il évolue, les militant·e·s syndicaux·le·s se posent la question des modalités d'action collective et de défense des intérêts moraux et matériels du mouvement ouvrier, entendu au sens large du terme. L'action du Premier mai 1886 à Chicago et le massacre de Haymarket Square, qui lui succède, le 4 mai, sont, en ce sens, des moments fondateurs de la période à laquelle le colloque sera consacré.

1956-1958: A revolutionary period that changed Africa (and the world)

The objective of this panel is to compare the various social mobilizations that took place in Africa during the years 1956-1958 and which arguably constitute a historical watershed. The main aim of the panel is not the making of an abstract comparative analysis, but the analysis, based on the testimonial material collected, of how the memory of these events has been structured over time. Moreover, we are interested in understanding what the impacts of these social movements were on the structuring of states and what continuities can be found between the mobilizations of that period and the ary social mobilizations that have shaken the continent in the last ten years, from the ‘Arab Spring’ of 2011 onwards.

The history of Frenceh cultural diplomacy

Dans le cadre de la célébration du centenaire de l’Association française d’action artistique (AFAA) et de la création du Service des Œuvres, le ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères, le ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères et l’Institut français organisent, conjointement avec l’université de la Sorbonne-Nouvelle / Paris 3, un ensemble d’événements afin d’étudier l’histoire de la diplomatie culturelle française. D’autres établissements d’enseignement supérieur ou de recherche sont susceptibles de devenir partenaires de cette démarche. Parmi ces événements, un colloque scientifique est prévu au printemps 2022 à l’université de la Sorbonne-Nouvelle, dont le champ d’étude portera sur l’histoire et l’action du réseau culturel français à l’étranger, qui comprend les services de coopération et d’action culturelle, les instituts français, les alliances françaises. Il portera également sur les politiques publiques qui ont sous-tendu cette action. Les actes de ce colloque feront l’objet d’une publication.

Italy and Yugoslavia in the Interwar Period

Monographic issue of “Qualestoria. Rivista di storia contemporanea”

The signing of the Treaty of Rapallo in 1920 made it possible to find a solution to the Italian-Yugoslav dispute over the north-eastern Adriatic border, a solution that would last substantially until the Italian invasion of the neighbouring kingdom in World War 2. Relations between Italy and Yugoslavia, particularly since the end of the 1920s, with the beginning of the more decidedly revisionist phase of fascist foreign policy regarding the structures of the Danubian-Balkan area, were never easy. However, the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo represented an undoubtedly important moment, which greatly contributed to restore a climate of collaboration between the two countries, heavily jeopardized by border nationalism and by the D’Annunzio’s “impresa di Fiume”, interrupted precisely by the Treaty of Rapallo.

The international conference bears a transdisciplinary outlook as it cross-references a variety of scientific fields (history of cinema, aesthetics, philosophy, history, political science, anthropology, sociology, etc.). A film retrospective of documentary films will be held at the Cinémathèque du documentaire (Centre Pompidou, Paris), as well as screenings followed by debates and panel discussions at Inalco in the presence of the filmmakers Marcel Łoziński and Želimir Žilnik.

L’histoire des sciences humaines et sociales en Amérique latine a donné lieu, notamment à partir des années 1990, à une littérature abondante, très majoritairement en langue espagnole. Cette historiographie constitue le contexte des acquis et des lacunes au regard duquel des questionnaires et des objets d’enquête peuvent être redéfinis, prolongés ou revisités. C’est l’objectif de ce dossier de la Revue d’histoire des sciences humaines qui souhaite contribuer à explorer, dans une démarche résolument historienne, des voies d’un continent intellectuel dont il ne s’agit pas de poser le périmètre a priori.

Ce projet de journée d’étude veut mettre en lumière les diverses formes de participation et de contribution des femmes du Canada français au dynamisme d’un champ historique en constante métamorphose. Par là, il entend aussi offrir de nouvelles pistes d’analyse pour déjouer la construction genrée du champ de la pratique historienne et mieux comprendre l’effacement mémoriel de certaines de ses ouvrières. Aux côtés de figures mieux établies, qui retiendront aussi l’attention, se trouvent plusieurs praticiennes n’ayant pas investi à hauteur suffisante les formes canoniques d’expression disciplinaire - la monographie d’histoire, l’article scientifique ou la synthèse historique - mais dont la contribution mérite d’être mieux reconnue et étudiée.
