Économie politique et fiscalité dans l’Orient hellénistique et romain
Le projet de cette journée serait de faire dialoguer des historiens, philologues, papyrologues, épigraphistes et archéologues spécialistes d’économie et de fiscalité antiques afin de découvrir comment ces deux disciplines pourraient plus étroitement travailler ensemble et mettre en commun leurs savoir-faire techniques et théoriques.

From quarries to rock-cut sites. Echoes of stone crafting
The conference aims at carrying on the international debate on the archaeological investigation of rock-cut spaces and stone quarries, considered as aspects of the same mining phenomenon: places in which specific empirical and handcrafted knowledge related to stone working is expressed and conveyed. The conference envisages a diachronic approach and therefore all case studies are welcome, without chronological limits.

Integrating the margins in the Middle Ages (5th-15th century)

Entre transition (périphéries, confins) et rupture (limites, écarts, frontières), les marges sont toujours relatives, pensées dans leur rapport avec une norme. Le modèle centre-périphérie a longtemps retardé leur étude, les cantonnant à une définition en négatif vis-à-vis d'un centre tout puissant, où elles étaient instituées comme le pôle perdant au sein d'un système dissymétrique. Poser la question de l'intégration des marges (territoriales, spatiales, mais aussi sociales), doit permettre de dépasser ce constat pessimiste et ce désintérêt – allègrement battu en brèche par les recherches des deux dernières décennies – pour les marges. En jouant sur toute la polysémie du terme, des marginalia des manuscrits aux marches territoriales, en passant par les individus et les groupes marginaux, ces journées d'études souhaitent susciter une réflexion transdisciplinaire, entre littérature, histoire et archéologie ; à la croisée des mondes médiévaux chrétiens et musulmans, conformément aux intérêts fondateurs du laboratoire du CIHAM – UMR 5648.

Asia and the Mediterranean world from the 4th millenium BC to the 5 century AD
Cette rencontre a pour objectif de permettre à des doctorants et jeunes chercheurs d'échanger sur les notions de transport et de circulation terrestres, dans un espace géographique et chronologique large : de l’Orient au monde méditerranéen, du IVème millénaire avant notre ère au XVème siècle de notre ère. Cette approche transversale, spécifiquement voulue et développée pour cette journée d’étude, a pour objectif de rassembler les communicants autour des questions de méthode d’analyse tant archéologiques, qu’iconographiques ou philologiques.

Call for papers - Epistemology and methodology
Burial mounds and funerary customs in the Caucasus, Northwestern Iran and Eastern Anatolia during the Bronze and Iron Age
The tradition of burying the dead in burial mounds (kurgans), usually consisting of a funerary chamber limited by stone or brickslabs and covered by dirt and gravel, started in the fourth millennium BCE in the northern Caucasus and then spread south to the rest of the Caucasus regions, eastern Anatolia and northwestern Iran during the Bronze Age and Iron Age. The spread of the kurgan tradition, as well as the territorial, political, social, and cultural values embedded in their construction and their symbolic relation to the surrounding landscape are under debate. The workshop aims to examine chronological issues, cultural dynamics at inter-regional scale, rituals and burial patterns related to these funerary structures. The beliefs and ideologies that possibly connected the "kurgan people" over such a wide geographical area, as well as past and present theoretical frameworks, will also be discussed.

Après l’inhumation, l’intégrité de la sépulture peut être perturbée de multiples manières et notamment par l’intervention des vivants. En dépit du fait que la gestion de l’espace funéraire puisse souvent être responsable de ces bouleversements, elle n’est pas la seule raison poussant les hommes à remanier les sépultures. Selon les lieux, les périodes et les espaces d’inhumation, les motivations sont très diverses, sans qu’elles soient pour autant synonymes de destruction ou d’outrage. L’objectif de ce colloque, international et pluridisciplinaire, est d’ouvrir les discussions sur les remaniements de sépultures en s’interrogeant sur les motivations des vivants et les moyens dont dispose l’archéologue pour parvenir à leur compréhension.

La Revue d’histoire du XIXe siècle souhaite mettre en lumière à la fois les conditions de dialogue entre archéologues et historiens sur des « territoires » du XIXe siècle et les apports croisés que ces deux disciplines peuvent apporter à notre connaissance du XIXe siècle en essayant de sortir de la compétition ancienne héritée de la Guerre Froide entre l’Occident et le bloc de l’Est et en élargissant les thématiques.

The conference seeks to examine the shaping of art history as a discipline during the 19th century in relation to artistic training and exchanges between artists and scholars. The development of art history has been associated with an array of socio-political and economic factors such as the formation of a bourgeois public, the politics of national identity and state legitimacy or the needs of an expanding art market. This conference aspires to explore yet another, less studied dimension: the extent to which the historical study of art was also rooted in an intention to inform contemporary artistic production.

According to the journal scientific objectives, all works submitted must concern to Antiquity as general area of research, with two focal perspectives: specific studies on Ancient History, and works regarding its reception in all later periods.

Light in the Religions of the Book: A Multidisciplinary Approach
If light is a valuable tool for the development of buildings, it also meets the requirements of practical and functional needs. Beyond its purely aesthetic role, it is indeed a way to delineate the space and to organize its occupation by defining spatialities and temporalities adapted to the functions of the building. In order to assess the significance of spatial and temporal dimensions of light, a cross-reading of architectural, archaeological, textual and iconographic sources might be particularly fruitful. The theme of light which, somewhat complex, constitutes a privileged entry point not only to the study of man's relationship to space and the sacred, but also to the development – within or between monotheisms – of influences, exchanges, ruptures, continuities and legacies. The goal of the conference is to explore the theme of light in the East and in the West, during the Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, in a transdisciplinary perspective and within five thematic panels.

Après les approches diachroniques et régionales des colloques Balnéorient d'Alexandrie (dec. 2006) et d'Amman (mai 2008), cette troisième rencontre sur l'histoire du bain collectif depuis l'Antiquité jusqu’à nos jours favorisera les approches thématiques et comparatistes, dans une même démarche pluridisciplinaire. Eau, écosytème et développement durable en zones arides et semi-arides
Deuxième conférence internationale WATARID
Dans les zones arides et semi-arides la question de la ressource en eau, sa sauvegarde et ses usages constituent un enjeu majeur. Depuis des millénaires, les sociétés vivant dans ces zones vulnérables ont dû construire des savoirs et développer des techniques adaptées. Face à la croissance démographique et aux besoins alimentaires, la pression sur la ressource en eau est de plus en plus grande et révèle de nouvelles tensions qu’il est urgent d’étudier.
