    The sources of international relations between the political centres of Europe and the Mediterranean (800–1600)

    The 15th International Congress of Diplomatics organized by the Commission internationale de diplomatique, which is being held between the 4th and 6th of October at Leipzig, studies the diplomatic characteristics of medieval and early modern charters and the related documentation being used in “international” and interreligious diplomacy. The main objective of the conference is to analyse the "international" and interreligious repertoire of types and forms of the documents as well as their regional specific characteristics. Special attention will be dedicated to the different stages of tradition and the consequences for historical interpretation focussing on the internal and external characteristics of the diplomatic documentation.

    AdriAtlas e la storia dello spazio adriatico antico (VI a.C. – VIII d.C.)

    AdriAtlas è un programma internazionale dell’Agenzia nazionale per la ricerca (ANR) francese, volto a creare un atlante informatizzato dell’Adriatico nell’Antichità e nell’alto Medioevo, dal XI sec. a.C. alla metà del VIII sec. d.C.; ne fanno parte l’École française de Rome, l’Institut Ausonius di Bordeaux e il laboratorio M2ISA di Parigi. Questo convegno offre agli gli istituti coinvolti l’opportunità di fare un primo bilancio di AdriAtlas, con la partecipazione delle università di Macerata e di Foggia, impegnate da vari anni in Albania, e di confrontare le riflessioni e le esperienze dei ricercatori sullo spazio adriatico, considerato come oggetto di studio storico sul lungo termine.

    Dans l’ancienne Rome, persona fut d’abord le masque, celui de la tombe de Tarquinia, l’implacable qui, dans la frénésie de la danse et de la course, présidait au destin funèbre des victimes sacrificielles. Mundus est fabula, la personne dans la République romaine est d’abord une figure hiératique quasi statufiée, prise dans les plis de sa toge, acteur de la vie politique, de sa propre vie aussi. Y aurait-il un paradoxe à ce qu’aujourd’hui la République, en mal d’identité, se sente menacée par d’autres masques, le masque féminin de la burqua ?Comment peut-on être persan, ou … comment peut-on être français, ce qui était la question en fait posée par Montesquieu sous couvert d’un regard au sens propre « exotique », extérieur.

    L’Alliance de villes européennes de culture (AVEC), l’Union internationale des associations et organismes techniques (UATI, ONG de l’UNESCO), la ville d’Arles, l’Institut d’urbanisme et d’aménagement de l’université Paris IV-Sorbonne et le Pôle industries culturelles et patrimoines, avec le concours d’ICOMOS et le patronage de la commission nationale française pour l’UNESCO, organisent un atelier international intitulé : « Patrimoine urbain en Méditerranée : développement économique et social », le 22 et le 23 avril 2010, dans la salle des fêtes de la Ville d’Arles.

    Religions and Politics in Europe's Orients (14th-20th c.)

    The goal of this conference is to explore a number of aspects of the relationship between the religious phenomenon and politics through the historical framework of political developments in what progressively will become, through interaction, the Orients of Europe, i.e. Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well as the Eastern Mediterranean, an area so unorthodox and difficult to examine in terms of essentialist definitions. It is no accident that Samuel Huntington believed that what we call the ‘Orthodox East’ does not form a part of the West, but rather a sui generis encounter between Christianity and Islam at the borders of Europe. This theoretical scheme is not overturned by drawing the borders of Europe a little further to the East, as many believe, but by historicizing the issue of the relationship between religion and politics in the given geographical region through the comparative prism of what was occurring during the same period in Western Europe.
