  Subjectivity, corporality and connected objects

  Comparative perspectives on design and the future of interaction

  Le développement actuel des « objets connectés » et de l'« Internet of Everything » (de la brosse à dents connectée au compteur électrique dit « intelligent »), soulève la question de leurs influences sur le corps – que le corps soit compris comme un ensemble d’attitudes sensorimotrices, comme le sentiment intime d’être soi, ou comme le siège même de la subjectivité. En effet, loin d’être de simples « prolongements » du corps ou des « interfaces », ces objets inscrivent les corps dans des circuits complexes de données et d'interactions, et structurent par là même notre être-au-monde.

  Le développement actuel des « objets connectés » et de l'« Internet of Everything » (de la brosse à dents connectée au compteur électrique dit « intelligent »), soulève la question de leurs influences sur le corps – que le corps soit compris comme un ensemble d’attitudes sensorimotrices, comme le sentiment intime d’être soi, ou comme le siège même de la subjectivité. En effet, loin d’être de simples « prolongements » du corps ou des « interfaces », ces objets inscrivent les corps dans des circuits complexes de données et d'interactions, et structurent par là même notre être-au-monde. Nourri par les regards croisés de théoriciens et de praticiens, en faisant appel à la philosophie, à la sociologie, au design et à l’art, le séminaire se donnera pour tâche d’explorer les modes d’interaction spécifiques que ces objets induisent, et le rôle que leur design sera amené à avoir dans la construction de nos subjectivités individuelles et collectives.

  History Review of the technical modernity in France (the twentieth century to the present)

  Critical thinking of modernity has never been more relevant. She also has a history, especially since the late eighteenth century. Its players may have been either movements (1810 Luddites to the Surrealists in the late 1950s, and other movements today) or relatively isolated thinkers, and more involved in writing (sometimes the pamphlet) than in transformative political action. The proposed program focuses on this second category, most misunderstood, but also addresses the first category – in both cases over a period extending from the early twentieth century to today. It puts them into perspective with some excitement speeches of the dominant technical modernity that often they criticize, especially in the period of the 1930s and that of the years 1960-1980.

  History and Philosophy of Physics : The backstages of experiments

  Since the 1980s the history and philosophy of science has produced a number of studies about experiments, their aim, styles, intellectual and material components, and multiple disciplinary embedding. Measurement and its instruments have received special attention, as befits the central role they play in any quantitative science. Yet, save for cases in which measurement is the very purpose of experiment or in which it serves to isolate phenomena otherwise lost in noise, measurement processes rarely appear in the publication or in the ulterior discussions of an experiment. The metrological aspects remain in the backstage, for they are believed to be sufficiently shared and codified to elude contestation ; and yet their epistemic, social, and technical functions seem essential. The aim of this year’s seminar is to improve our understanding of these hidden metrological aspects of experiment.

  Repenser l'ingénieur ?

  Le séminaire « Repenser l'Ingénieur ? » se tiendra les troisièmes jeudis du mois de 17h à 19h à l'ENS Jourdan de novembre 2009 à juin 2010. Ce séminaire de recherche est ouvert à tous, chercheurs et professionnels. Nous chercherons à réfléchir en commun à partir de recherches récentes sur les ingénieurs et leurs pratiques, notamment par les interventions de jeunes chercheurs.
