It gathers seven partner institutions: CNRS, France; Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, Italy; Cambridge University, UK; Erasmus University Rotterdam, Pays Bas; University of Graz, Austria; John Wesley Theological College, Hungary; National Scientific and Technical Research Council, Argentina.

  Tracing mobilities and socio-political activism

  19th-20th centuries

  This doctoral workshop will explore to what extent the notion of “mobility” in current cultural and social theory (eg. Stephen Greenblatt, John Urry) can be fruitfully applied in historical research. Mobilities can be seen as cross-border movements of persons, objects, texts and ideas.

  From silicosis to silica hazards: an experiment in medicine, history and the social sciences

  What are the biases inherited from the constitution of medical knowledge? How does returning to the root of “scientific truth” open new avenues to contemporary research? The present colloquium is an unprecedented interdisciplinary experiment whereby medical experts, epidemiologists and historians will question the very foundations of current medical knowledge of silica hazards, in order to discuss the unknown origin of a range of systemic diseases.

  Environmental research and its public

  Quels sont les apports scientifiques d’une collaboration active avec « le public » ? Il est courant de faire appel à des riverains, des usagers, des consommateurs afin de recueillir leurs avis sur une technique, un produit, une gestion une fois que ces derniers ont été élaborés. L’objectif étant souvent de rechercher un aval public aux décisions déjà entérinées par ailleurs. Mais qu'en est-il lorsque cette collaboration est recherchée dès la phase préliminaire qui consiste à poser le problème à traiter ? Lorsque ces publics sont mobilisés afin de penser la gestion du problème et ses outils ? Telles sont les questions qui seront traitées non seulement théoriquement, et méthodologiquement, mais également via des témoignages de chercheurs ou d’acteurs impliqués dans de telles dynamiques à l’occasion de recherches concrètes.
