  ReThinking Europe in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea Region

  The 11th annual international conference on Nordic and Baltic Studies

  Brexit has just happened and its consequences are not yet fully comprehended. Would the outcome be a return to a status quo ante the Brentry of 1 January 1973 in British-EU relations? Would Britain become a sort of bigger Norway tightly connected to the EU, but yet not fully a member of the united organization? Would Britain really continue to exist as such? Would Scotland, not to mention other territories, emulate London and decide on their own Brexit, this time from the United Kingdom, in order to rejoin the EU? Would actually Brexit become a pathway for other skeptical EU nations? Would Brexit rocket exclusive forms of nationalisms? Would the whole of united Europe collapse, on the long run, as a result of Brexit as the League of Nations had become toothless after the US Senate had vetoed the Pact of League of Nations? But what effect is going to have Brexit on Scandinavian countries which historically have been closely connected to Britain? How is it reflected in Scandinavian intellectual milieus, in mass-media, in public discourses? What about the Baltic states which received a strong support from Britain in key moments of their history, for instance when Royal Navy came at the rescue of Estonian and Latvian independence following World War I or in the process of re-enactment of Baltic sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union?   1818 - 2018 : Bicentenaire de l'accession de Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte aux trônes de Suède et de Norvège

  État des lieux et actualité de la recherche

  Cette journée d’études entend appréhender l’accession aux trônes de Suède et de Norvège de Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte. Il s’agira de considérer cet événement à l’aune des renouvellements historiographiques entamés à l’université de Toulouse Jean Jaurès (UT2J) au sein du laboratoire Framespa il y a maintenant plus de dix ans, et d'en élargir le cadre aux autres universités françaises et à celles, plus lointaines, d'Europe du Nord. Les participants sont ainsi invités à replacer la personnalité et l’exercice du pouvoir par Bernadotte dans une historiographie plus large des bouleversements profonds que connaissent les États européens à la fin du XVIII^e et au début du XIX^e siècles.

  De la nordicité : concept, représentation, imaginaire

  Ce colloque s’intéressera aux représentations du Nord dans la littérature et les arts européens. Il s’agira de comparer ces représentations chez les artistes et auteurs nordiques, mais aussi les autres Européens, et ainsi tenter de mieux cerner les différents concepts et modèles de nordicité. On s’interrogera sur les caractéristiques du concept pluriel de nordicité et sur la possibilité d’en retracer la généalogie, on s’intéressera aussi bien aux différents modèles de nordicité qui émergent au XIX^e siècle qu’à leur évolution et leur transformation au cours des XX^e et XXI^e siècles.

  Beyond soft power: The stakes and configurations of the influence of contemporary Turkey in the world

  This workshop will explore the theme of Turkish political and cultural influence in the world, exploring scientific debates on the topic of “soft power” and its applicability to contemporary Turkey. This workshop aims at raising several questions: To what extent is the concept of “soft power” adequate to characterize Turkey’s influence and its weaknesses both on the international stage and towards its neighboring countries? Reciprocally, how can the analysis of the different patterns of Turkey’s influence help us question the concept of “soft power”, and to come up with other notions?

  Transferts, appropriations et fonctions de l'avant-garde dans l'Europe intermédiaire et du Nord, 1909-1989

  Le colloque se concentrera sur la question des fonctions des avant-gardes ainsi que des transferts et appropriations des influences et intertextes dans l’Europe intermédiaire et du Nord dans la période qui s’étend de 1909 à la fin de la guerre froide. Les langues officielles du colloque seront le français et l’anglais. Les domaines disciplinaires invités à apporter leur contribution sont : l’histoire de l’art, lettres modernes et littérature comparée, histoire, histoire des idées, sémiotique, analyse des discours et traductologie.
