Les iconothèques d’artistes et d’écrivains
Du romantisme aux modernes
« Pas d’icône sans son lieu d’inscription, de fabrique ou de stockage, sans son iconothèque. » (Philippe Hamon, Imageries. Littérature et image au XIXe siècle, Corti, 2001, p. 33) L’iconothèque est l’« emplacement réservé au stockage de documents-images (gravures, photos, etc.) répertoriés et classés en vue de leur utilisation. » (Trésor de la langue française informatisé) Pour traiter des bibliothèques d’images, des « dossiers iconographiques », des « répertoires d’images » – ou plus largement des « iconothèques », selon un terme d’archivistique – composés ou simplement utilisés par les écrivains, trois journées d’études allant du romantisme à nos jours sont organisées dans trois pays (la France, la Belgique, le Canada) en 2021 et 2022.

Contemporary Vocalities. The voice between poetry and music (1948-2022)
Ce colloque souhaite établir un pont entre le monde de l’art et celui de la recherche et s’adresse aux chercheurs (musicologues, spécialistes de littératures écrites ou orales) et aux artistes (poètes, compositeurs, interprètes) dont les recherches ou l’œuvre portent sur la voix. On interrogera l’émergence récente de nouvelles pratiques vocales et de nouveaux répertoires entre poésie et musique ainsi que de nouvelles collaborations transmédiales. Il est une invitation à repenser la voix, qu’elle émane de la musique vocale d’aujourd’hui, des diverses médiations vocales de la poésie contemporaine, de la performance ou encore de la création radiophonique depuis les années 1950.

De quoi les Bérus sont-ils le nom ? Ça n’est pas encore assez su mais il s’est passé quelque chose de puissant et de profond au sein de la société française des années 1980. Une agitation, plus qu’une révolte à proprement parler, qui a secoué ces années Mitterrand pendant lesquelles fut enterré l’espoir d’une révolution socialiste et même d’un simple changement qui transformerait la vie de tous. L’expression fut musicale, rageuse et festive, mais plus fondamentalement elle fut l’expression d’une immense envie de vivre et de vivre libre, c’est-à-dire libéré des carcans imposés par une société vieille, un cri de la jeunesse contre la pesanteur étouffante de celle-ci.

The history and current state of the enigma of voluntary servitude today
La plupart des déplacements théoriques ou détournements politiques qui scandent la réception du Discours jusqu'à nos jours, loin d'être réductibles à de simples appropriations ou réductions de l'interrogation ouverte par La Boétie, témoignent aussi de sa fécondité philosophique. En réunissant spécialistes de l’histoire de la philosophie et spécialistes de la philosophie politique, cette journée d’étude entend explorer la tension entre l'énigme proprement philosophique de l’œuvre et quelques-unes de ses actualisations politiques récentes (servitude totalitaire, servitude néolibérale, etc.).

À l’occasion de la présente journée d’études, nous nous proposons de réfléchir à la manière dont l’imaginaire urbain renvoie à des territorialités qui sont simultanément habitées par les écrivains et artistes, l’occupant, les autochtones et ceux qui sont désormais considérés dans leur condition d’exclus, d’étrangers ou de « clandestins ». Nous invitons les contributeurs à s’interroger sur la part de la dimension spatiale dans les écrits (fiction, poésie, écrits intimes, théâtre, etc.) ou les réalisations picturales, musicales des écrivains, artistes et musiciens qui ont réagi face aux mesures introduites à l’encontre des Juifs.

"All Alone" in East-Central Europe: Reinventing the Orphan from the Fascist to the Socialist Era
International PhD Contract 2020-2023
Full-time, 36-month-long international PhD contract at Sorbonne University (PhD program IV) within the research centre Eur'ORBEM and in partnership with the French Research Centre in Social Sciences (CEFRES) in Prague, from 1 October 2020, under the supervision of Clara Royer. The PhD thesis may be written in French or in English. PhD propositions should focus on the discourses and practices surrounding the orphan condition in literature and/or visual arts (cinema, photography, graphic arts and so forth) in the wake of the violence and demographic upheavals that characterized 20th century East-Central Europe. Because of its interdisciplinary scope, applicants with a background in social history, literary studies and/or visual arts specialized in one or several countries of East-Central Europe may apply.

Brexit has just happened and its consequences are not yet fully comprehended. Would the outcome be a return to a status quo ante the Brentry of 1 January 1973 in British-EU relations? Would Britain become a sort of bigger Norway tightly connected to the EU, but yet not fully a member of the united organization? Would Britain really continue to exist as such? Would Scotland, not to mention other territories, emulate London and decide on their own Brexit, this time from the United Kingdom, in order to rejoin the EU? Would actually Brexit become a pathway for other skeptical EU nations? Would Brexit rocket exclusive forms of nationalisms? Would the whole of united Europe collapse, on the long run, as a result of Brexit as the League of Nations had become toothless after the US Senate had vetoed the Pact of League of Nations? But what effect is going to have Brexit on Scandinavian countries which historically have been closely connected to Britain? How is it reflected in Scandinavian intellectual milieus, in mass-media, in public discourses? What about the Baltic states which received a strong support from Britain in key moments of their history, for instance when Royal Navy came at the rescue of Estonian and Latvian independence following World War I or in the process of re-enactment of Baltic sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union? Afin de déconstruire le récit sur la chanson espagnole instrumentalisé par le franquisme, ce colloque invite à réfléchir sur une histoire plus complète et plus complexe de celle-ci, ainsi que sur l’identification des topiques qui ont permis de créer une cohésion nationale à travers la chanson contemporaine. Dans ce cadre, il est également nécessaire de prendre en compte l'importance des chansons dans la création et la transmission des identités liées aux régions, aux villes, aux lieux et même aux quartiers, qui contribuent à l'analyse avec une approche différente. Ce colloque a pour objet d’examiner, dans l’aire culturelle hispanique, les rapports entre chanson et territoire à l’époque contemporaine, de 1808 à nos jours et étudier, dans la chanson, l’évocation des lieux et des imaginaires qu’elle mobilise pour devenir emblématique du territoire national.

Dans ce colloque il s'agira de questionner les habitats où vivent, dans leur grande diversité, les personnages de la littérature pour la jeunesse. Habiter, ce n'est pas seulement se loger ; nous rechercherons ce que nous en disent les albums, les contes, les romans, la bande dessinée, la poésie, le théâtre, ou les documentaires. L'habitat demeure-t-il majoritairement un espace inviolable et rassurant ou bien précaire et fragile ? Comment habiter ? Comment nos habitats nous habitent-ils ?

Writing, drawing and translating artificial intelligence in science fiction
From a transcultural perspective, this international workshop will look into some representations of Artificial Intelligence in Japanese and Chinese science fiction (SF) to shed light on the on the creative ways with which non-Anglophone science fiction envisions the social / cultural / economical / political impacts of AI development. It will examine Japanese and Chinese SF works – (translated) literature and manga – as well as some technological and political discourses on AI, to delineate possible alternative ways to approach the posthuman imagination.

Le colloque propose de s’interroger, de manière diachronique et comparatiste, sur la chronologie, les formes et les enjeux de la réception du Siècle d’Or dans les pays germanophones : Certaines périodes et certains genres se sont-ils révélés particulièrement propices à ces échanges ? Dans quel contexte (politique, culturel, idéologique) ? Qui sont les médiateurs favorisant cette réception (des traducteurs, des artistes, des mécènes, des voyageurs, des écrivains…) ? Quelles images de l’autre pays ont-ils transmises dans leurs œuvres ? Quelles fonctions la réception du Siècle d’Or a-t-elle eues (enjeux esthétiques, idéologiques…) ? Quelle en a été la fécondité ?

The theatre of science-fiction: the first elements of cartography
Dans ce numéro de la revue ReS Futurae, il s’agira d’interroger l’histoire de la science-fiction (SF) au théâtre depuis le XIXe siècle au moins et de réfléchir à l’historiographie du théâtre de science-fiction en France et à l’étranger, en interrogeant les catégories génériques actuellement en usage avec lesquelles le théâtre de science-fiction voisine et/ou que le théâtre de SF subsume (utopie/dystopie, post-apocalypse, etc.). Sur la base d’études de cas, l’ambition est d’assembler les premiers éléments utiles à une cartographie du théâtre de science-fiction.

Realism(s) in contemporary Spanish literary fiction (19th-21st centuries)
Le colloque international de la NEC+ prévu en mars 2020 portera sur ce « champ miné » (G. Champeau) qu’est le réalisme pour en considérer les diverses manifestations et l’évolution au sein de la fiction narrative espagnole des XIXe, XXe et XXIe siècles. Par-delà les clichés perdurant à son endroit au point d’en offrir une vision simpliste voire erronée, le réalisme est sans doute beaucoup plus complexe et opaque qu’il n’y paraît, d’autant plus difficile à cerner qu’il est fuyant et que ses contours sont flous, capable de se redéfinir et de se réinventer avec chaque époque et même avec chaque auteur pouvant s’y rattacher de près ou de loin.

“Marine Feet and Vesuvian Eyes”: The Volcanic Aesthetics of Maria Orsini Natale

This volume intends to fill a gap in the critical reception of a remarkable Southern Italian woman writer. A journalist, a poet and a writer, Maria Orsini Natale (1928-2010) lived and worked at the foot of Vesuvius, and began writing at age 69, receiving several literary recognitions. Her novel, initially written as Ottocento Vesuviano, then entitled Francesca and Nunziata, and published for the first time in 1995, was also made into a 2001 film directed by Lina Wertmüller, starring Sophia Loren and Giancarlo Giannini. The book earned her a semifinalist’s place in the Strega Prize, the most prestigious Italian literary award, and features a family from Amalfi, dedicated for generations to the white art of pasta making. More than fiction, it illustrates what in Neapolitan is called a ‘cunto’, part historical account and part allegorical tale, derived from a reservoir of collective as well as personal memories.

The return of peace in 1918 heralded a troubled period for Modernism. After years of tensions, the borders opened again: D.H. Lawrence travelled to France and Italy in 1919, while Joyce left the safe haven of Switzerland. But the euphoria and cosmopolitan openness of the early 1910s had receded in the aftermath of the horrors of war, as Joyce realised upon returning to Trieste, and personal tragedies compounded the general gloom. These comings and goings, however dire the circumstances, fostered new relations, and the encounters that took place in this period initiated a new phase of literary creation. Our aim will be to analyse the influence of this common experience of personal and cultural wandering in a shared moment of uncertainty, on post-war modernism.

The thought of Henri Bergson (1859-1941), one of the most influential theorists of time of the twentieth century, has primarily been confined to the so-called “continental” tradition of philosophy. In the past few years this has started to change; his work has begun to receive ingenious reassessment from philosophers outside the field of “continental” philosophy in general and within analytic philosophy in particular. The aim of this conference is to capture this moment and use it to provide new perspectives on Bergsonian philosophy, expanding and reassessing Bergson’s legacy and producing a major permutation in the philosophy of time.
