  What have Meso­pot­amian Em­pires ever done for their people? Track­ing the macro in the mi­cro

  In this workshop, we aim to take the view from below and investigate in what way imperial dynamics may have affected the lifeways of people in their territories. The basic questions of this workshop are: How did the empires of the Ancient Near East affect the lives of ordinary people in their realm?  To which extent was rural life and life in smaller towns permeated by imperial agents and policies, hence by imperial dynamics?

  L’économie politique de la République islamique d’Iran

  Un bon diagnostic sur la situation économique et politique dans l’Iran d’aujourd’hui implique un examen des rapports entre la structure du pouvoir politique, les formes de propriétés prépondérantes, et l’activité économique. Par ailleurs, à travers un tel regard, on comprend mieux l’imbrication des sphères économiques et politiques dans l’Iran d’aujourd’hui. Enfin, une analyse de l’économie politique de la République islamique d’Iran peut également apporter des clés de compréhension quant aux évolutions politiques futures dans ce pays. Une analyse en termes d’économie politique nécessite donc une approche pluridisciplinaire avec un échange entre les économistes, les politologues, les sociologues et les historiens.

  The Globalization of Production Models and Innovation in Emerging Economies

  Comparative Research on Subnational Industrial Policies

  This seminar will bring together scholars examining research themes pertaining to the evolution of production models in regions of India and China, in relation to the progressive opening of these large economies to trade and FDI. Of particular interest are industrial and innovation policies emerging at the state or provincial level and the manner in which these public policies interact with firm-level strategies in pursuit of more broad-based development goals. Apart from the keynote session, five thematic sessions are planned: Upgrading Regional Industries in India and China; Subnational Industrial Policies in India and China; Social Dimensions of Regional Industrial Performance; Articulating industrial policies between central and local levels; Industrial Districts and Regional Policies.
