Articuler l’histoire sociale et environnementale

Proche-Orient, Maghreb, Afrique (XIXe-XXIe siècle)

Cette journée d’étude a pour objectif de rassembler des historien-ne-s contemporanéistes spécialistes du Proche-Orient, du Maghreb et de l’Afrique travaillant dans une optique environnementale. Si la trame politique globale de l’histoire moderne et contemporaine de ces régions est bien connue (domination impériale ottomane ou monarchique locale, tutelle coloniale européenne, accession à la souveraineté nationale), les dynamiques sociales, juridiques et environnementales sont sous-documentées. Cette rencontre ambitionne de renforcer les liens entre des « aires » habituellement séparées tout en englobant une diversité de zones climatiques et d’écosystèmes, des côtes méditerranéennes aux forêts tropicales, en passant par les milieux désertiques. Afin de permettre un dialogue heuristique, il s’agira de réfléchir plus particulièrement aux manières d’articuler histoire sociale et environnementale, à partir de cas précisément situés et dans une approche comparatiste attentive aux sources mobilisées.

Echi dell’antico nell’architettura del primo Novecento”, che si terrà il 11 e 12 Novembre 2021 a Roma. Il convegno intende focalizzare l’attenzione sul tema dell'architettura residenziale a Roma mettendo in relazione gli studi sulle tipologie e sul linguaggio architettonico dell'antichità con le esperienze dei primi decenni del Novecento, realizzate contestualmente allo sviluppo abitativo della Capitale.

Water in north western European cities in the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries)

A vector of transformation of the urban space

Starting from the premise that a variety of towns existed during the early Middle Ages (towns of Roman origin, or growing up around a monastery, a defensive site or an economic hub), we propose to assess, in North-West Europe, the role of water in these towns at three progressive levels: i) that of different users within a town, ii) at the level of the town as a whole, and iii) in the creation of urban networks. Our purpose is to draw together the most recent research, highlighting this subject through archaeological discoveries as well as critical analysis of written sources.

International Meetings of the Middle Ages in Nájera have been proposed as an international congress in the field of study and dissemination of Medieval History since 2003. The theme for this year’s meetings is Economic policies and strategies in the Medieval Atlantic City. Atlantic city, arose in the Middle Ages, was based on a series of key factors -such as the geographical features, infrastructures and very dynamic societies-, but also because urban policies adopted, in those peripheral cities due to its geographical location, some common and different characteristics from the cities of the interior of the continent, whose economic policies and strategies we are proposing to analyze in this conference.

Image, Cartography, Knowledge of the City after the Council of Trent ("In_bo" vol. 12, no. 16)

Between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the Italian political geography was polarized by a number of cities of different sizes and traditions: Rome and Florence, Milan and Naples, Genoa and Venice, Turin and Modena, either ancient republics or new dynastic capitals, satellites of the great European monarchies or small Signorias. The conjunction — less frequently the conflict — between the mandates of the Council of Trent and the interests of the ruling élites of those cities set the foundation for novel forms of social, cultural and spiritual control, fostering new urban structures and policies, deeply conditioned by the presence and government of the sacred.

To this Thematic Dossier, we suggest to focus on these materials, having in mind the relation between built heritage, knowledge and society. It is proposed a multidisciplinary, wide and diversified approach of the various aspects that influence the patrimonial existence of cities. It aims to explore diversified aspects of mediation between these materials and cultural heritage. Thus, all are invited to present creative and original studies and reflections.

New perspectives on Charleville: History, population and territory (17th-19th century)

Le 2 avril 2005, lors du colloque du cinquantenaire de la Société d’études ardennaises, François-Joseph Ruggiu proposait une communication intitulée Pour une histoire de Charleville et de sa population sous l’Ancien Régime. Il venait d’ouvrir un champ d’études et de sources inédites dont personne ne soupçonnait alors l’importance et les multiples dimensions historiques qui allaient en découler. En décembre 2010, un premier colloque intitulé Charleville, une ville neuve et sa population s’est tenu pour mettre en lumière l’histoire de la population de Charleville et ces sources exceptionnelles, en France et en Europe, que sont les dénombrements annuels de population de la ville. Les 28 et 29 mai 2021, un second rendez-vous scientifique international aura pour but de proposer un nouveau point d’étape sur ce projet et de mettre en lumière les travaux innovants qui se focalisent actuellement sur l’histoire de la cité ardennaise, dans une perspective de longue durée et à travers de multiples domaines de recherche.

9th congress of the Société des études romantiques et dix-neuviémistes

Du 25 au 27 janvier se tiendra à Paris, à la Fondation Singer-Polignac, le IX^e congrès de la Société des études romantiques et dix-neuviémistes, sur le thème suivant : « Vivre vite ». Le XIX^e siècle face à l'accélération du temps et de l'histoire. L’appel à communications est ouvert à des propositions relevant de la littérature française, de la littérature comparée, de l’histoire, de la philosophie, de l’histoire des arts et de la musicologie. Dans un souci d’analyse globale des phénomènes, on privilégiera des approches transversales, plutôt que des études monographiques.

Iconographical and audiovisual archives of the Reconstruction in France from 1940 to the 1960s

Parce qu’une image ne parle pas d’elle-même, l’objectif de cette journée sera d’une part de présenter les types de documents iconographiques et audiovisuels en rapport avec la Reconstruction dont sont dépositaires les différentes institutions patrimoniales, tout en appréhendant leur contexte de production et leur richesse. La journée d’études abordera d’autre part ce que les fonds iconographiques et audiovisuels véhiculent en terme d’informations, tels que les matériaux et la matérialité, la promotion de la Reconstruction, la circulation des modèles étrangers, etc. Des cas d’usage des fonds iconographiques à des fins de valorisation, d’utilisation innovante pour la recherche, la connaissance historique pourront également être présentés. Réunissant aussi bien des chercheurs que des archivistes, la journée d’études est également ouverte aux professionnels et opérateurs de terrain aujourd’hui confrontés à l’actualité et au devenir du patrimoine architectural et urbain de la Reconstruction.

Dirty waters, troubled waters, run-off water: the management of undesirable waters in the Roman world

Au travers de recherches récentes, seront présentées les différentes formes que peuvent arborer les installations destinées à gérer les eaux indésirables tant en milieu urbain que rural. On se demandera si leurs caractéristiques architecturales sont le fruit de déterminismes environnementaux et culturels ou bien s’il s’agit de véritables modèles standardisés, qui se développent dans l’ensemble du monde romain. La frontière est parfois difficile à saisir entre réseau d’alimentation et réseau d’évacuation. Ce colloque propose donc de présenter les infrastructures non pas pour elles-mêmes mais dans l’optique de les intégrer au sein d’un réseau hydraulique cohérent, afin de comprendre les liens et les limites qui existent entre les réseaux d’alimentation et d’évacuation. Enfin, d’un point de vue méthodologique, on s’intéressera aux apports de l’étude de ces aménagements pour l’identification des espaces qu’ils traversent.

This call for papers concerns social housing, a rapidly changing and significant field for those who practice architecture, landscape architecture and spatial planning. Present throughout Europe at various levels, from 4% in Romania to 32% in the Netherlands, social housing heavily contributes to urban renewal. Through its material and non-material renovation, as well as the evolution of meanings, stakeholders and populations, new dynamics emerge that influence architectural, urban and landscape forms, modes of living and careers in spatial production. This volume seeks to identify and decode these dynamics through three axes: 1) Towards new models; 2) Between heritage, urban renewal and sustainable development; 3) Spatial forms and social arrangements.

Dans une optique interdisciplinaire, ce colloque international se propose d'étudier la notion de distance à l'époque moderne (XV-XVIII^e siècle), en la considérant comme un angle essentiel pour les approches spatiales et multi-scalaires mobilisées dans de nombreux travaux en histoire. Que ce soit en termes de circulations, d’échanges ou encore de liens sociaux, les distances se pratiquent et s’éprouvent. Intervalles physiques ou symboliques, elles permettent donc d’aborder le rapport qu’entretiennent les hommes à leur espace. La problématique s'articule autour de trois axes : les dimensions matérielles, les perceptions et les écritures, et les temps des distances.

Urban fears, 16-21th century

The notion of “urban fears” is not new but can be reexamined, in a newly initiated approach of an “emotional” approach to the city, a study of the emotions of inhabitants. “Urban fears” will be defined as collective feelings of anxiety, in urban populations, about events occurring or likely to occur in the city where they live, and for a sufficient period of time not to be considered anecdotal. “Dangerous classes” of the lowlands, riots, natural, climatic, environmental, epidemic, food disasters, irrational fears, rumours and urban legends will be the focus of our attention.

Prison spaces in the Middle Ages: an interdisciplinary approach to the territories and materialities of medieval incarceration

While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.

Ce colloque régional entend faire le point sur les nombreuses connaissances accumulées depuis des décennies sur les chemins et mobilités en Bretagne depuis l'âge du Bronze. Les découvertes archéologiques se sont en particulier multipliées et proposent un renouveau de l'histoire du réseau routier breton. Elles seront confrontées aux découvertes et connaissances s'agissant des périodes moderne et contemporaine, afin de proposer une véritable lecture diachronique de l'histoire du réseau routier breton. Pour cette raison, les regards disciplinaires seront croisés, entre archéologie, archéogéographie, histoire et géographie.
