  Digital humanities and Jewish geography in Europe

  Perspectives for the revision of medieval Jewish history before 1300

  L'université d'été du projet-pilote franco-allemand « Nouvelle Gallia-Germania Judaica » est destinée aux jeunes chercheurs autour. Elle ambitionne de relever le défi thématique et technique de l'écriture d'une nouvelle histoire des lieux juifs avant 1300 au long du Rhin. À partir de sept lieux représentatifs du Moyen-Âge juif en France et en Allemagne, les interprétations traditionnelles de l'histoire juive de ces lieux sont examinés à la loupe et servent de « champ d’expérimentation » pour identifier ainsi que pour mettre en cause de manière critique différentes approches de recherche.

  L'objectif de l'école de l'Institut d'histoire du livre est de promouvoir la diffusion des savoirs spécifiques au monde du patrimoine écrit et imprimé. L’apprentissage se fait par des sessions de cours, appuyés sur un livret de l’étudiant et des supports audiovisuels d’une part, et par la consultation de documents originaux rares et précieux au Musée de l’imprimerie et de la communication graphique et à la Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon d’autre part.

  Summer School - History

  The "Face" of First World War Battlefields and Battles

  The centenary in 2016 of the two iconic battles of the First World War – Verdun and the Somme – leads us to reconsider battles and battlefields in the historiography of the First World War. Since John Keegan’s pioneering Face of Battle (1976), generations of historians have expanded our understanding of the experience of combat, as well as our knowledge of the literary and artistic representations of the battlefield. The way we think about the legacy of battles in the memory of the First World War around the world, too, has changed. Our week in Verdun and Péronne will not only give us time to reflect on the current state of research on the battles of the First World War and discover the most recent advancements in battlefield archeology and environmental history of warfare, but also confront these readings with on-the-ground visits to the sites studied.
