  Bohème sans frontière : production et internationalisation d’une posture

  Un colloque international se tiendra sur ce thème du 10 au 13 décembre 2008. Les chercheurs sont invités à adresser leurs propositions (un titre et un texte programmatique d’une dizaine de lignes, en français ou en anglais) avant le 1er septembre 2007 à Anthony Glinoer (anthony.glinoer@utoronto.ca) et à Pascal Brissette (pascal.brissette@mcgill.ca). Les communications seront prononcées en français ou en anglais et ne devront pas dépasser 25 minutes.

  Helsinki conference panel 2008 : call for papers

  Call for papers for a panel on Ordinary Writings and Scribal Culture, at the Helsinki Congress of the ISSEI, 28 July-2 August 2008. This panel will be concerned with the nature, context and growth of personal written communication in western societies in the 19th & 20th centuries, with particular reference to the writings of European peasants and workers.

  Art as Historical Text

  A research workshop of the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) and the Chaim Herzog Center for Middle East Studies and Diplomacy, with support from the President and Rector, Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), Beer Sheva, titled: “Art as Historical Text”, is organized by Avital Heyman, Department of the Arts, BGU. The workshop will be held in BGU on 14-16 May 2007. Topics to be discussed: Pilgrimage and cultic practices in Jewish, Christian, and Muslim societies; construction of cultic shrines; art and historical, social, and liturgical reality (East and West).

  Sciences et savoirs dans le monde atlantique francophone (XVIe-XVIIIe siècles)

  L'objectif de cette rencontre est de confronter diverses analyses portant sur la construction et la circulation des savoirs dans l’Atlantique francophone des XVIe, XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles. En s’attachant à souligner certaines spécificités de l’histoire des savoirs dans l'Atlantique français de l'époque moderne, cet atelier abordera des thèmes aussi variés que la cartographie, la botanique, les savoirs médicaux ou les contacts entre savoirs africains, amérindiens et européens. Au-delà d’une réflexion d’ensemble sur les enjeux d’une telle histoire pour penser l’histoire coloniale française de l’époque moderne, une table ronde clôturera cette rencontre afin de situer cette histoire par rapport à celles, plus familières, des espaces coloniaux de la Grande-Bretagne et de l’Espagne.

  History in images, History through images

  The main theme of the present workshop is “Entertainment, Media and the Public Space” as documented in photographs and other pictorial images. As for previous meetings, participants are expected to work with photographic collections or others visual materials, and namely :- to take visual materials as the core material source of the presentation- to make an innovative use of a set of visual documents- to explore how visual materials may bring/allow a new perspective or approach or questioning on a given topic- to discuss the methodological implications/challenges in the use of visual materials.

  How was power exercised, implicitly and explicitly, in the centuries of the medieval and Renaissance eras? How was it displayed and performed, theorised, ritualised, romanticised, codified, sanctified or opposed? The conference will consider questions such as these in a sequence of interdisciplinary sessions covering the full span of the periods and looking at social contexts ranging from the medieval republic of Iceland to the imperial courts of Renaissance Europe.
