Echogéo review call for articles – for publication in June 2010
La revue Echogéo (http://echogeo.revues.org/) lance un appel à communications sur le thème : « Afrique, 50 ans d’indépendance. Territoires, frontières, identités et développement ». Il s'agit de contribuer au bilan géographique d'un demi siècle d'indépendance. Les textes, en français ou en anglais, devront privilégier des approches thématiques larges. Ils pourront aborder les changements d'ordre spatiaux ayant caractérisé les relations entre États, sociétés et territoires, ou, dans une perspective épistémologique, l'évolution des regards portés sur ceux-ci. -

Social Geography of Risk: Which Approaches?
Special session Annual Association of American Geographers Meeting
In this session we want to focus on the definition of risk, the way this category is constructed, through which relations and which spatialities is forged. Building on real case studies, we are interested in understanding the role of geographers and social scientists when investigating the “societies at risk” and the “vulnerable” groups. Emerging issues in this area of work are related to the need to integrate environmental and social information and the fact that we have to face the implementation of complex investigations including among others: environmental measures, descriptive epidemiology, analytical studies, social surveys and GIS modeling. -

Recent research on migrant communities has witnessed a clear shift towards a more sophisticated understanding of the variety of bonds that link minority groups to the society they live in, as well as to their places of origins. Yet, when it comes to the understanding of past migrations, historical discourse still depends in many ways on traditional categories of analysis, that often poorly reflect the profound originality of the situations under study. This session is an attempt to challenge traditional and “ready-to-go” views on the organization of community life among migrants who lived in the Mediterranean port-cities during the late modern period (17th to 19th centuries). -

Comment sont interprétés et refaçonnés les imaginaires géographiques, culturels ou ethnologiques dans la création de nouvelles destinations touristiques ? Quels sont les acteurs qui interprètent, façonnent, produisent des discours et des produits touristiques ? Quel est le positionnement des populations locales par rapport à la mise en tourisme de leurs espaces de vie, lieux sacrés, traditions, artisanat, etc. ? De quelle manière celles-ci produisent-elles (ou co-produisent-elles) les imaginaires touristiques des lieux visités ? Et quel est l’apport des touristes dans cette co-production d’imaginaires touristiques ? -

Histoire des conflits de proximité aux XIXe et XXe siècles
Dans le cadre du programme de recherches Cdhte-Pirve 997 : « Débordements des activités industrielles dans la cité. Études de conflits et d’interventions publiques aux XIXe et XXe siècles », une journée d’étude propose le 23 juin 2009 au Cnam d’exposer les façons d’établir les faits de conflits de proximité et d’analyser leurs modes d’expression dans l’espace public. À partir de l’exposé de quelques cas repérés et en cours d’étude, il sera question d’échanger les points de vue sur la pertinence des approches transversales et interdisciplinaires qu’impose ainsi l’étude de ces « conflits de proximité » générés par les débordements industriels. -

Le numéro 5 d’Articulo – Revue de sciences humaines souhaite explorer la tension née du jeu de deux « images médiales » : la banlieue comme zone de relégation et d’enlisement dans un hors la ville rimant parfois avec un hors la vie ; la banlieue comme espace des mobilités spatiales et sociales. La banlieue s’entendra ici comme l’ensemble des territoires du périurbain et concernera à la fois des contextes européens et nord-américains. -

Le réseau européen sur l’insertion des jeunes (Transition in Youth Network) a pour objectif de faire avancer les connaissances théoriques et empiriques sur l’insertion des jeunes en Europe et dans le monde. Le dix-septième Workshop en septembre 2009 sera organisé à l’Université de Bourgogne et plus précisément à l'IREDU (UMR 5225) sur le thème de différents risques auxquels doivent faire face les jeunes sur le marché du travail. Les questions de flexibilité, de précarité et de mauvaises adéquations entre formation et emploi seront centrales, même si d'autres thèmatiques peuvent être proposées. Entre terr(itoir)es, paysages et réseaux [Afrique du Sud, invité d'honneur] / Between land(scape), territory and networks [South Africa, invited country]
Le thème du colloque « les "fronts écologiques", entre terr(itoir)es, paysage et réseaux » s’insère totalement dans les problématiques actuelles de recherches, théoriques et appliquées, sur le développement durable. En effet, un « front écologique » désigne un espace de faible densité de population, doté de valeurs écologiques et paysagères fortes et convoité par des acteurs aux motivations aussi variées que conflictuelles (tourisme, villégiature, protection de l’environnement, énergies alternatives, exploitation forestière etc.). Un « front écologique » est donc traversé par des enjeux multiples et systémiques qui font largement écho aux situations rencontrées aujourd’hui un peu partout dans le monde : question foncière, dynamiques territoriales, valorisation des paysages et protection de la nature et mise en réseau des espaces et des acteurs. Nous concevons donc la région d’accueil de ce colloque autant comme un lieu de débat que comme un terrain d’études et d’observations comparatives. -

Transnational Communities and Conflict: a Civil Society approach
Conflict resolution from below?
The International Civil Society Forum on Conflicts (INFOCON) is an EC funded research project, aiming to offer a better understanding of how Civil Society Organisations representing Transnational Communities can help in preventing and resolving conflicts. This interdisciplinary conference will debate the conflict resolution mechanisms used by different actors and how they can collaborate in order to achieve their major goals. The two-day conference will bring together the INFOCON researchers, policy experts at the local, national and European level, and representatives of the Civil Society. The event will be punctuated by several keynote addresses delivered by leading academics and policy-makers in the field of transnational communities and conflicts. -

Seventh Day of Geography. Spaces of Death and the dead in spaces
For the seventh consecutive year, the association Doc'Géo organizes the Day of Geography on April 7th, 2009 (in partnership with the Ecole Doctorale Montaigne Humanité, MSHA and ADES UMR CNRS 5185). This Day may primarily interest Masters, Doctoral, Post -doc, and therefore young researchers. The objective of this day is to consider the spatial dimension of death, a theme to which far too little attention was paid in the humanities, thus offering potential rich thematic analysis. The purpose of this one day conference is to initiate, through a partnership between several disciplines (geography, sociology, ethnology, anthropology, history, art history, philosophy, medicine, biology, ethology ...) an analysis of the relation between space and death.
