  Ce colloque, qui aura lieu les 19 et 20 novembre, s'inscrit dans le cadre du programme de recherche « Le Bilâd al-Shâm face aux mondes extérieurs (XIe-XIVe s.) » co-dirigé par Denise Aigle et Katia Zakharia (à partenariats multiples). Il réunit des chercheurs de l' Ifpo, de plusieurs UMR du CNRS en France et des chercheurs syriens, libanais et jordaniens.

  Tamil and Tamil Akam at the Crossroads

  The objective of the conference is to examine Tamil Nadu as an example of a geographical space where multiple cultures met, exchanged, and absorbed from outside, while Tamil maintained until recent times its unique ancient traditions. To bring together an international cadre of scholars who work in diverse disciplines that focus on a single region is to create new knowledge as is the way of any innovative conference. The fourteen scholars participating in the event bring a range of disciplinary perspectives to the idea of Tamil and Tamil Akam as a crossroads of cultures and a locus of international exchange in both the arts and sciences.

  États, cultures et différenciation ethnique dans le Proche-Orient médiéval

  Loin d’être l’élément déclencheur de l’apparition de l’ethnicité au Moyen-Orient à l’époque moderne, les nationalismes des XIXe et XXe siècles ne sont qu’une reconfiguration des modes de différenciation en vigueur dès le Moyen Âge. Le Proche-Orient est un lieu d’ancrage et de passage de populations ethniquement différenciées (Arabes, Turques, Kurdes, Arméniens, Tcherkesses, Turcomans etc.). Les catégories ethniques - les ethnonymes - ont largement cours dans les littératures arabe, syriaque, arménienne, turque et par conséquent dans les sociétés du Proche-Orient médiéval.
