  Études sur les monothéismes (2010-2011)

  Le Laboratoire d’études sur les monothéismes organise des conférences portant sur l’étude des traditions exégétiques et philosophiques depuis l’Antiquité. Il a pour vocation de rassembler des antiquisants, des ­médiévistes et des modernistes autour d’une recherche historique et scientifique sur les religions monothéistes. Il veut être un lieu de rencontre et de ­formation autour de textes et d’auteurs ­décisifs, pour une meilleure appréhension du phénomène complexe de la constitution d’orthodoxies et d’hétéro­doxies dans les différentes traditions philo­sophiques et ­religieuses. Les conférences prennent place dans un programme ambitieux de rencontres, de tables rondes et de colloques. En favorisant les échanges interdisciplinaires, elles participent à la vitalité de la recherche au sein du Laboratoire d’études sur les monothéismes.

  "African Churches" in Europe. Mediating Imaginations

  "African Churches" have been present in Europe for some decades now, but their developments have taken a new dimension with the intensification of African migrations to Europe in the 80s and 90s. Beyond their doctrinal and institutional diversity and divergences, these churches have in common to be carried by African populations who all too often remain stigmatized and marginalized at the social, political and juridical levels. From the diverse issues of identity, networks and circulations of religious actors, relations to the public sphere, and gender, contributions to the conference will seek to show how African Christian worlds of Europe are now situated at the very heart of dynamics of reconfiguration of African imaginations of Europe, but also of European imaginations of Africa.

  Religious Community and Modern Statehood

  The passage from the Ottoman empire to modern states

  The conference aims to explore various aspects of the communal organization in the Ottoman Empire for regions such as Asia Minor, Middle East and the Balkans, and to present the changes that occurred within the religious communities during the 19th century and particularly during the period from Tanzimat reforms until the First World War. Key questions in relation to the modernization process of the Ottoman state and the functioning of religious communities, are a) how does the Sublime Porte understand the process of structuring a modern state with respect to religious communities, b) who is responsible for the modern institutions: the state or the religious communities, c) what is the reaction of the religious communities regarding the modernization process d) why and in what way the religious communities are changing on the light of this process.

  Images of the Mediterranean in Question

  Religious and cultural encounters in the Near-East

  La Méditerranée regroupe une très grande variété d'héritages historiques et combine des rapports de force d'envergure très différente, depuis les conflits locaux jusqu'aux rivalités planétaires. L'objectif de notre séminaire est de questionner les phénomènes de croisements culturels et religieux qui font à la fois l'objet de pratiques religieuses partagées et de logiques de patrimonialisation. Dès lors, il s'agit d'observer ces deux processus pour préciser dans quelle mesure chacun contribue à la production mémorielle commune et la construction d'une ou des identités. Les dynamiques de l'histoire favorisent le développement de processus de patrimonialisation comme l'émergence de sanctuaires partagés. À partir des questionnements spécifiques à l'ANR IMASUD, l'objectif de ce séminaire sera de débattre autour de ces deux axes et à partir de corpus iconographique ou filmique. Ces documents feront l'objet d'un bref exposé méthodologique relatif aux recherches menées.

  "African Churches" in Europe. Mediating Imaginations

  International Conference at the Université libre de Bruxelles

  Des Églises « africaines » sont présentes en Europe depuis quelques décennies à présent, mais leurs développements ont pris une nouvelle dimension avec l’intensification des migrations africaines vers l’Europe dans les années 1980 et 1990. Selon les perspectives, ces Églises peuvent aujourd’hui être considérées comme une contribution africaine globalisée et particulièrement dynamique à l’édification des christianismes contemporains, ou comme les niches de particularismes et de communautarismes ethno-religieux pas nécessairement compatibles avec les espaces publics européens. Ce qui est indéniable toutefois, c’est que les Églises « africaines » sont aujourd’hui au cœur de transformations à la fois des imaginaires de l’Europe dans les mondes africains, et des imaginaires de l’Afrique en Europe.
