Forced migrations and youth welfare policies of the 19th and 20th centuries
La plupart des jeunes placés en institution dans le cadre des politiques de protection de l’enfance ont été en réalité déplacés, non seulement dans le but des les éloigner de chez eux, mais aussi en vertu d’une volonté de les enraciner ailleurs. Ainsi, certaines politiques mettent en œuvre un programme raisonné de déplacement massif de populations juvéniles, souvent au-delà des frontières nationales, selon des visées colonisatrices, du fait de conjonctures politiques spécifiques – guerres et changements de régimes, d’utopies pédagogiques et idéologiques, ou de stratégies institutionnelles particulières. Le numéro 14 de la Revue d'histoire de l'enfance « irrégulière » portera sur les politiques migratoires contraintes concernant les jeunes placés en institution dans l'objectif de comprendre comment ces enfants (dé)placés deviennent des enjeux de pouvoir, des acteurs des relations internationales, des sujets politiques sans droits politiques. -

Hybrid Identities. An interdisciplinary vision of social mobility. International Congress Institut de Recerca en Identitats i Societats (IRIS). Universitat de Lleida. Lleida, Spain. 16th, 17th and 18th November 2011. The Institute for Research on Identities and Society. Twelve research groups will meet at the Universitat de Lleida to study the main historical, linguistic, sociological and anthropological axes that define individual and collective identity. This, in turn, will facilitate an analysis of the exchanges, relationships and interactions that characterize our lives. -

Les migrations internationales saisies par les histoires nationales, XIX-XXe siècles
Cette rencontre constitue la première manifestation publique du GIS Histoire des migrations, créé début 2011, qui réunit la Cité nationale de l'histoire de l'immigration, l'EHESS, l'Université Panthéon Sorbonne, l'Université Aix Marseille. La journée d'étude propose de faire un état des lieux de la recherche sur les migrations, qui mette en valeur les apports, mais révèle aussi des manques et partant, pose des questions nouvelles et ouvre des pistes de travail. Pour mener à bien cette réflexion, nous proposons de confronter les analyses des représentants de plusieurs historiographies nationales, qui ont toutes été amenées à prendre en compte, dans leur démarche, la dimension migratoire de ces histoires. -

In September 2011, Porto will be the stage for an International Conference & International Summer University under the theme Borders, Displacement and Creation. Questioning the Contemporary. It will be focusing on the encounter between Contemporary Political Philosophy and Aesthetics, with the contribution of several scientific fields within the Social Sciences and the Humanities. The Conference will be held on the 29th, 30th, 31st August, 3rd and 4th September at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, and on the 1st and 2nd September at Serralves Auditorium. Ce colloque clôture un projet ANR mené au Centre d'études des mondes russe, caucasien et centre européen (CERCEC, CNRS/EHESS), intitulé « Caucase et Asie Centrale : un autre Sud ? ». Il rassemblera à Almaty, outre les membres de l'équipe du projet, une cinquantaine de participants venus d'Asie Centrale, du Caucase, de Russie, d'Europe des Etats Unis et du Japon. Pluridisciplianire, ce colloque a pour ambition d’interroger la pertinence des outils heuristiques élaborés à partir de terrains situés au « Sud », mais aussi de la notion même de « Sud(s) » pour appréhender les périphéries méridionales de l’espace post-soviétique. Il entend réunir des chercheurs de toutes les disciplines des sciences sociales (sociologie, histoire, sciences politiques, géographie, anthropologie, démographie, économie). Territorial and Border Configurations to the Test of Mobility and Migrations (19th-21st century)
Ce séminaire international organisé par le programme MIMED de la MMSH d'Aix-en-Provence en partenariat avec le CRFJ examinera l’évolution des processus sociaux, économiques et politiques liés à la mise en place de dispositifs de gestion des mobilités et de la coprésence en Méditerranée. Il envisagera à la fois les politiques publiques mettant en place ces dispositifs à l’échelle d’Etats, de régions ou de villes, et les réactions des populations à ces dispositifs, leurs formes d’adaptation, de transgression ou de contournement. Il tentera enfin d’évaluer dans quelle mesure les réactions des populations peuvent en retour affecter les dispositifs. Dans la durée (du XIXe au XXIe siècle), Il s'agira d'interroger l’influence croissante des processus nés de la globalisation sur les mobilités et les configurations territoriales. -

Historical Development of National Systems of Elite Formation in Eastern and Central Europe
This workshop is bringing together specialists from mostly Eastern Europe together with some West European partners, capable and liable of sharing their localised research expertise in the study of the birth and initial development of national systems of elite training in a number of (mostly but not exclusively) small East Central European societies. All of them have very concrete empirical research agendas and records in these fields, but separately, applied to their own national societies. The idea of the meeting is born from the need of and the interest in comparing – in many thematic issues term by term – research findings, insights and questions gained from studies of the training, career and activities of various East European elite groups during the decades up to the Soviet take-over. -

The aims of the Roskilde International Summer School are threefold: 1. to help students grasp and critically engage with the notions of identity and interculturality and see how they are related; 2. to get to know various research methods that can help students to work within cultural and social complexity; 3. to discuss their own research topics and to get to test various research tools that can help them to move on in/improve their research. The Summer School is meant to be transdisciplinary, and the target group is PhD students from all disciplinary backgrounds who are especially interested in methodologies related to this field of study. -

Populating: the elusive category of urban policies?
Le peuplement, entendu comme action, plus ou moins délibérée et formalisée, consistant à intervenir sur la répartition spatiale des groupes sociaux, fait figure d’enjeu saillant autant qu’insaisissable des politiques urbaines actuelles ou plus anciennes. L’objectif de ce colloque est de faire le bilan des connaissances internationales sur le sujet et d’identifier les chantiers de recherche en cours et à venir afin d’analyser la façon dont le peuplement est construit comme objectif et enjeu des politiques urbaines, dans des contextes sociaux, historiques et politiques distincts. Autrement dit, il s’agit d’appréhender le peuplement à la fois comme politique(s) et comme catégorie(s) d’action publique, en confrontant à travers ce prisme des travaux qui ne le sont pas habituellement, soit parce qu’ils portent sur des terrains et des époques éloignés, soit parce qu’ils sont issus de disciplines différentes (géographie, science politique, sociologie, urbanisme, histoire, etc.). -

Bridging, Bonding and Bordering: Migrant Strategies and State Policies
Research Training and Funding for Doctoral Students
This program will assist students to prepare for dissertation research on topics related to Bridging, Bonding and Bordering: Migrant Strategies and State Policies through participation in a conference of field experts, two training workshops, and summer research under the mentorship of Professors Virginie Guiraudon (CNRS, Political Science) and Rubén Hernández-León (UCLA, Sociology). The conference and workshops will assist students to map and draw upon cross-disciplinary and transatlantic research on immigration in Western Europe and the United States; define their own research questions; assess the utility of various research methods; undertake exploratory summer research; and prepare cogent and fundable doctoral research and funding proposals. -

Les débats français, britanniques, canadiens et nord-américains sur les tensions entre universalisme et particularisme sont au centre des questions relatives à l’immigration et à la diversité ethno-raciale, religieuse et de genre. Ce colloque se propose tout d’abord d’explorer les manières dont chacun des quatre pays gère les tensions entre multiculturalisme et genre. Ensuite, face aux réponses institutionnelles et aux pressions du groupe, de quelle manière les personnes les plus vulnérables des groupes réagissent-elles ? Enfin, dans quelle mesure les mouvements antiracistes sont-ils les alliés des mouvements féministes ?
