COOP 2012. Tenth International Conference on Design of Cooperative Systems
COOP 2012 will be the tenth COOP conference and will take place in Marseille, France. Twenty years on from the first conference in 1992 we are asking practitioners and researchers to reflect on what have been the successes and the failures, and what are the remaining challenges in our relevant domains. The conference aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners who contribute to the analysis and design of cooperative systems and their integration in organizational unity, public and other settings, and their implications for policy and decision-making. The COOP conferences suggest that cooperative systems design requires a deep understanding of collective activities, involving both artifacts and social practices. Contributions are solicited from a wide range of domains contributing to the fields of cooperative systems design and evaluation: CSCW, HCI, Information Systems, Knowledge Engineering, Multi-agent systems, organizational and management sciences, sociology, psychology, anthropology, ergonomics, linguistics, etc. -

Thirty-Eighth Annual Saint Louis Conference on Manuscript Studies
The Vatican Film Library and its journal, Manuscripta, annually host the Saint Louis Conference on Manuscript Studies. The conference, known familiarly as the Manuscripta Conference, has no set theme and serves as a general forum for manuscript scholars to meet and discuss their work with colleagues. Each year a distinguished scholar is invited to deliver the Fr. Lowrie J. Daly, S.J. Memorial Lecture on Manuscript Studies. Topics addressed at the conference range from Antiquity through the early modern period and include, but are not limited to: Paleography, Illumination, Binding, Library History, Textual Criticism, Codicology, Book Production, Diplomatics, Reading and Literacy, Manuscript Cataloguing. -

Les institutions doivent savoir répondre aux questions de respect des droits des auteurs et des personnes interrogées ou représentées que posent leurs projets de mise à disposition de ressources en libre accès tandis que les chercheurs, qui publient désormais régulièrement en ligne, se trouvent confrontés à des séries de questions juridiques et éthiques auxquelles ils ne savent pas toujours répondre. -

Le colloque « Traditions réinventées » se déroulera à la Freie Universität Berlin en coopération avec la Gemäldegalerie de Berlin du 08 au 10 juin 2012 et sera dédié aux recherches sur la transmission des modèles artistique dans les manuscrits à peintures de la fin du Moyen Âge au regard de l’histoire de l’art, de la restauration et des aspects paléographiques. L’appel à contribution se dirige vers des jeunes chercheurs et chercheuses (doctorant(e)s et post-doctorant(e)s) de l’histoire de l’art et des disciplines apparentées. -

Images of Animate Movement. Representations of Life
The fascinating paradox that we can see life in abstract images is the starting point of this conference. In a drawing of just a few lines, we can immediately recognize a human figure walking. A moving quadrangle can be seen as a crawling caterpillar. And some well-placed moving points are directly joined together in the form of a dancing couple. Again and again, we are astonished that we can actually see a creature moving in the image – even when the image is of such a reduced and simple nature or when it is not even a temporal moving image. How this impression of animate movement can be explained is what is explored at this conference: how can a simple line or form suddenly transform into something so specifically meaningful? How is this transition – this coming to life – to be described? How can it be constructed in the first place? The conference "Images of Animate Movement. Representations of Life" brings together different domains of knowledge in order to approach the phenomenon of animate movement and its images in its complexity in a new way. -
